Get Millie Black – Season 1 Episode 2 1

Elsewhere, Millie rushes Curtis to the hospital, her heart pounding with urgency. However, the nurse bars Daniel from entering Curtis's side due to their homophobia. As Curtis lies in surgery, Millie returns to the precinct to find Lance grilling Janet. Janet remains steadfast, her lips sealed tight. Millie, persuasive and determined, convinces the Captain that she can wrangle more from Janet than Lance has. Together with Luke, she steps into the interrogation room, Millie employing every ounce of empathy to gain Janet's trust. She persuades Luke to reveal why Freddie is in peril, yet Janet insists she knows nothing of Freddie's whereabouts, believing they were merely embarking on a journey together.

Millie presses Janet about the boy's clothes she bought, which leaves Janet visibly shaken and hesitant. After much coaxing, Janet reluctantly spills that she procured the garments as a favor for a wealthy family, handing Millie their address. The Sommerville family's lawyer swoops in, spiriting Janet away from further questioning. The Captain cautions Millie to tread lightly and return home, but Millie, sensing Janet's duplicity, remains steadfast. He urges her once more to check on Curtis and then head back, but Millie is convinced Janet is concealing crucial information.

Returning to Curtis's bedside, where he remains unconscious, Millie's mind races as she heads back to her home, poring over case files. Hibiscus arrives, hurt and barefoot, her appearance a stark contrast to the calm of Millie's home. Millie swiftly administers first aid and tours her through the house. Hibiscus is convinced their deceased mother's ghost still lurks within the walls, sharing tales of how she watched their mother expire without a twinge of regret. Even in her dying breaths, their mother's malice towards Hibiscus persisted, her final wish a vendetta against her own flesh and blood. Millie apologizes for buying into their mother's deceit, earnestly hoping Hibiscus will return to the fold and they can embark on the path of healing together. Yet, Hibiscus, still raw and unprepared, declines her sister's offer.

The following morning, Millie persuaded Hibiscus to take a well-deserved rest within the confines of their home while she ventured out to face the grind of her daily work. However, Hibiscus found herself unable to unwind, as her mother's haunting words echoed incessantly in her mind. Every corner of the house served as a grim reminder of the devastating trauma she had endured under her mother's cruel hand. Seeking solace, Hibiscus ventured out to the restaurant that Millie frequently patronized, hoping to drown her sorrows in a few drinks. The restaurant's owner, noticing her absence from her usual routine, promptly called Millie to alert her.

Meanwhile, Millie inadvertently caused Daniel emotional pain by neglecting to visit Curtis in the hospital. Instead, she found herself at the school, where she discovered that Janet had been mentoring children under a program named Daybreak. Intrigued, Millie visited the program and learned that one of the boys had received a sponsorship. She subsequently visited the boy's parents, who were overflowing with pride for their son, Romeo. They recounted that a woman named Maxwell had approached them, informing them of the sponsorship and meticulously preparing everything Romeo needed for his transfer to a new school called Sunrise. However, Millie found it peculiar that Maxwell had advised the parents to allow Romeo a few weeks to acclimate before visiting the school.

During lunch, Millie popped into the restaurant to check on Hibiscus, who had stumbled upon the numerous offers that Millie had been politely declining. Hibiscus, concerned for her friend's well-being, suggested that Millie consider selling the house. While at the restaurant, Millie received a shocking call informing her that the man who had shot Curtis had been killed. Shortly after, another call came in, revealing that no school named Sunrise existed. Alarmed, Millie called Romeo's parents back and left a voicemail, seeking more information about Maxwell.

With her heart pounding, Millie rushed to the crime scene and was greeted by Lance and Luke. Lance revealed that the deceased man was a member of a newly emerged gang called the Bombers, actively recruiting gunmen. Millie confronted Luke, demanding to know why Freddie had been granted immunity. It dawned on her that Luke had offered Freddie a get-out-of-jail-free card, effectively allowing him to evade justice for his heinous crimes against children. Millie argued passionately that no white criminal's life was more valuable than the lives of Black children. In response, Luke invoked Victor's name, accusing Millie of playing a part in his untimely death. Stunned by the accusation, Millie reached out to an old acquaintance to delve deeper into Luke's cases, seeking the truth that had been buried beneath layers of deceit and duplicity.

Later on, Millie receives a video message from Romeo's parents that leaves her utterly astounded. There, she beholds the stunning revelation that Maxwell is actually Janet, disguised in a wig and a sophisticated outfit. The penny drops; Freddie had enlisted Janet's aid in abducting Romeo. Janet, it transpires, is an integral member of Freddie's human trafficking syndicate. Armed with this evidence, Millie presents it to her boss, who mercifully grants her permission to delve deeper into the matter but stipulates that she must maintain a cordial relationship with Scotland Yard.

Luke, of course, vehemently denies Scotland Yard's involvement in the disappearance of the child. He had been tasked with apprehending Freddie after the latter reached out, offering insights into a gang known as Sanguis Meridian. Millie then seeks authorization to obtain a warrant for Janet's arrest. Together with Luke, she speeds to the Sommerville residence, where they discover Janet has vanished and the rest of the household lies lifeless. In a covert move, Millie slips Leddick Sommerville's phone into her possession, hoping it might hold the key to unraveling the mystery.

That evening, Millie is delayed in picking up Hibiscus from the restaurant. As they make their way home, a heated altercation erupts, sparked by Hibiscus's insistence that their house is haunted. She urges Millie to sell the property, but Millie is engrossed in nostalgia, reminiscing about their shared dreams. Hibiscus, however, gently reminds her that she is equally haunted by their mother's memory. Millie stands her ground, insisting she returned to save Hibiscus.

Hibiscus, unwavering, repeats that she doesn't need saving. Frustration boils over, and Millie begins smashing kitchen utensils. The fight intensifies, culminating in Hibiscus pushing her against a mirror. After regaining her composure, Millie reluctantly agrees to sell the house. Meanwhile, Hibiscus is saddened by the realization of how isolated and haunted Millie truly is, lamenting that Millie fails to see her for who she is.

The next morning, Millie visits Curtis, who has finally regained consciousness. Though hurt by her motive for visiting—to gain access to Leddick's phone—he understands her plight and agrees to assist. Their mission is clear: to locate Freddie and Janet before they harm Romeo. Curtis delves into the phone and uncovers photographs of Romeo, confirming Leddick's involvement in the abduction.
