Going Dutch – Season 1 Episode 4 1

As Quinn delves into a korfball tutorial video, he summons Captain Maggie Quinn (Taylor Misiak) and Sergeant Dana Conway (Laci Mosley) to his office, breaking the news that they will be joining his korfball team for the upcoming match.

Some time later, Katja Vanderhoff (Catherine Tate) arrives at the base, buzzing with excitement as she informs Quinn that the entire town is abuzz with anticipation for the korfball game. Quinn extends an invitation for Katja to join him at his place, while Shah diligently attempts to master the nuances of korfball.

When Maggie, Quinn, Dana, and Shah converge for practice, Maggie's demeanor suggests she's playing purely for the joy of it. Quinn calls her out, aware that her laid-back attitude is part act, part effort to rile him up, knowing that 'The Rocket' would never countenance defeat with equanimity. Later, Maggie seeks out Shah, curious about how Quinn came to know about her high school basketball nickname. He reveals that her mother used to send Quinn newspaper clippings of her games. Maggie confesses that she buried 'The Rocket' long ago, but a subsequent scene catches her retrieving her old jersey from her office, hinting at a reignited spark.

On their second date, Katja breaks the news to Quinn that she must reschedule their Saturday night plans due to a speaking engagement at a seminar. However, she assures him she'll be there to cheer him and Bram (Peter Eberst) on during the game. Quinn's jealousy of Bram is palpable, prompting him to probe further, only to learn that Bram is an imposing figure, also known as the town's baker.

The very next day, The Rocket makes a grand entrance at practice, capturing Quinn's admiration wholeheartedly. Similarly, his unexpected appearance at a tape review session earns him disdain from everyone except Quinn. As the evening unfolds and the rest of the team disperses, Maggie and Corporal Papadakis (Hal Cumpston) remain, delving deeper into tape analyses. It's during this session that Maggie discovers she has a hidden gem on her hands—a revelation that doesn't quite sit well with everyone.

On game day, Maggie learns of Conway's gambling on the match and promptly benches her. Similarly, Shah finds himself sidelined after remarking on Maggie's bonding with her father, a move that leaves the team yearning for the old Captain Maggie. By halftime, the US leads 13-0, and their lack of humility in the victory is palpable. Katja pulls Quinn aside, expressing her dissatisfaction with his team's behavior. Maggie's realization of her transformation into Quinn, marked by her causing the korfball player to shed tears, weighs heavily on her.

The atmosphere in the US locker room grows tense post-halftime as Maggie confronts her transformation. In a surprising twist, the team decides to deliberately lose the game, a plan Quinn readily agrees to in order to impress Katja. Yet, their attempts to hand the victory to the Dutch falter until Papadakis switches sides. With mere seconds left on the clock, both teams are deadlocked at 13. In a desperate move, Maggie fouls the pregnant Dutch player, awarding her a free throw which she sinks with precision.

Two days pass before Maggie visits Quinn's office, only to notice a newspaper clipping of her fouling the pregnant player proudly displayed on his wall. The episode concludes with Bram, Quinn, and Katja sharing an awkward dinner. Unable to bear the bizarre ambiance, Bram abruptly leaves the table. Meanwhile, Quinn basks in his latest victory, reveling in yet another triumph.
