Published: Jul 08 2024

The third episode of Grey's Anatomy's twentieth season kicks off with the board green-lighting Amelia and Grey's groundbreaking research to discover a definitive cure for Alzheimer's. The board has no hesitation in providing Grey with the necessary funds, particularly given her affiliation with the renowned Dr. Fox of the Fox Foundation. Elsewhere, Winston informs Miranda of his upcoming Chicago vacation, promising to discuss the interns' management upon his return. Meanwhile, Teddy, though recovered, remains confined to the wards. Meredith spends her hours with Teddy, striving to evade the intimidating presence of Catherine Fox. However, fate intervenes as she treats Teddy's sprained ankle, bumping into Fox herself. Fox expresses her eagerness for Grey's research update, unaware that Grey continues her Alzheimer's research, a project Fox had previously requested her to abandon.

As the episode progresses, we are introduced to the vibrant Dr. Beltran, a pediatric surgeon, the latest addition to Grey Sloan's esteemed roster. She is the same woman Amelia encountered in the hospital's bustling parking lot. Beltran takes on the case of Malan Vasconcelos, an eight-year-old girl diagnosed with congenital hydrocephalus. Malan's mother brings her to the hospital, concerned that her daughter is not acting like her usual self. Amelia promptly orders Kwan to escort the girl for radiological scans. The scans reveal that Malan's shunt has malfunctioned and requires immediate replacement.

Beltran proposes an endoscopic ventriculostomy, but Amelia initially doubts its efficacy. However, after seeking Dr. Warren's counsel, Amelia relents and agrees to Beltran's plan. She even finds a way to minimize the potential risks. With Malan's mother's consent, Amelia and Beltran embark on a successful surgery.

In parallel, the hospital buzzes with preparations to treat Nate Ardila, who is rushed in after a homemade floating bubble's steel rod pierced his arm. The situation is dire, and Ardila's arm hangs in the balance if the doctors fail to act swiftly. Facing the possibility of not surviving, Ardila requests to speak to his wife.

However, as she remained unresponsive to the urgent call, the paramedics swiftly liberated Ardila from his metallic prison. Blood streamed profusely from his wounds, and Winston frantically battled to halt the hemorrhage, striving to stabilize him before the perilous journey to the operating theater. Ardilla was hastily wheeled into the OR, while Simone desperately tried to contact his wife. Tragically, during the surgery, Ardilla's life signs vanished, and he was pronounced dead.

Ardilla's wife eventually arrived, only to be greeted with the devastating news broken by Owen and the others. Winston was consumed with guilt, blaming himself for Ardilla's demise, but Owen reassured him that he was not at fault.

Meanwhile, Lucas and Miranda made the decision to examine Dorian in his room, after noticing his blood pressure had stabilized. Yusuda felt a profound sense of betrayal, as she had been the one vigilantly watching over Dorian while Lucas wandered aimlessly through the hospital. She confronted Lucas, calling him a liar and making it abundantly clear that she wished to sever their friendship. Back at home, Simons called for Lucas, but it seemed he had already departed, leaving only emptiness in his wake.
