In the ninth episode of "Had I Not Seen the Sun," we find Jen-yao walking Hsiao-tung home, her shadow elongated by the setting sun. As her parents return home to find Hsiao-tung missing, their anxiety spills over in a frenzied search, calling friends and scouring every corner in the hope of stumbling upon her.

Hsiao-tung eventually makes it home, asking Jen-yao to leave. Jen-yao apologizes for taking the fall, but Hsiao-tung assures him it's okay. Her mother arrives, confronting Jen-yao with a fierceness that Hsiao-tung manages to quell. Inside, her parents press for answers, their voices heavy with unspoken fears.
With a heavy heart, Hsiao-tung finally unburdens herself, naming names: Chuang Jung-tai, Fan Wei-ting, Lin Meng-huang, Wang Yu-hsiang, Chen Che-li, and Ouyang-ti. As Jen-yao eavesdrops on their conversation, his body gives way to exhaustion and he collapses.
Jen-yao is rushed to the hospital, where his mother, a cleaner by profession, witnesses his plight. When he regains consciousness, he sees Hsiao's parents bringing her in for a check-up. Hsiao-tung is taken to a room where female doctors instruct her to disrobe, take pictures, and undergo a thorough examination to document the alleged sexual assault.
Her father encounters Jen-yao, who insists that the blame lies with him. He apologizes for failing to shield Hsiao-tung and reveals that the boys who assaulted her are his classmates. As Jen-yao leaves the hospital, his mother urges him to return home with her. She confides that she has reported to the police about his father's involvement in the drugs and that they are investigating. She promises to leave him so they can rebuild together, but Jen-yao remains skeptical.
Upon receiving the medical report, Hsiao-tung's parents resolved to file a police report, unaware that Ouyang-ti's parents had an informant within the police force. Upon seeing Ouyang-ti's name on the list, the informant, under the guise of protecting Hsiao-tung, advised them to first report the matter to the school rather than the police, claiming it would be more beneficial in the long run. Hsiao-tung's parents heeded his words and returned home, leaving Hsiao-tung to languish in bed, refusing to eat or speak to anyone. The parents were devastated and at a loss as to what to do.
Meanwhile, Ouyang-ti's father vented his anger on Big K and his associates for allowing the situation to escalate. He then turned to his wife, instructing her to fix the mess and ensure that everything remained hushed.
At school, the responsible group was summoned to the counselor's office for a report. They had all agreed to lie and had even threatened Hsiao-tung's friend into keeping the secret. During the hearing with the parents and the school, Ouyang-ti lied that Hsiao-tung had asked to hang out and go to karaoke, but that she wanted to visit their usual hangout spot. He claimed that Hsiao-tung had initiated the act of drinking beer and giving herself to them.
Hsiao-tung's father was enraged when he discovered that the medical report showed that Hsiao-tung had not taken any beer. The school concluded that Hsiao-tung had not been sexually assaulted but rather engaged in consensual behavior. When Hsiao-tung's parents disagreed with the school's opinion, they were threatened and bullied by all the other parents, who called Hsiao-tung a "loose girl." Ouyang-ting's mother tried to offer money to the parents, begging them to keep everything quiet and not go to court. Hsiao-tung's father refused the offer, telling them to keep the money for their son's funeral.
At the end of the episode, Jen-yao waited for Ouyang-ti and his gang outside the school gate with a knife. The boys taunted him, saying that they had already gotten to his girl before he did. As Jen-yao approached them, Hsiao-tung's father suddenly accelerated his truck towards them, narrowly missing them as they fled in a panic.
