The tenth episode of season two of High Potential unfolds with a group of skydivers brimming with excitement as they prepare for their leap. However, upon landing, they notice something amiss with Padilla, their instructor. The scene shifts to Morgan and her team arriving at the scene, with Morgan eager to solve a murder that took place mid-air. On Padilla's jumpsuit, they find a threatening note, hinting that he was investigating something that someone didn't want him to know.

Karadec and Morgan promptly begin interviewing the skydiving team, starting with Ethan, who directs them to Tina, the owner of the skydiving company. Tina is visibly saddened by Padilla's death but has no idea why someone would have wanted him eliminated. She mentions Padilla's military background and how he was secretive about it. The team then heads to Padilla's locker, where they find a blank white key-card that doesn't belong to the company.
Back at the station, Morgan charms the M.E. into fast-tracking the Padilla report. It turns out that he died from hypoxia, essentially suffocating, despite all his equipment being in working order. As the team discusses the case, Solomon from Internal Affairs interrupts. Morgan's request to fast-track the report has cost the department $12,000, and he bans her from assisting with the ongoing case, sending her instead to the Detective Training Academy.
Naturally, Morgan is displeased but has no other choice. She must pass the test if she intends to keep her job as a consultant. As he walks her to class, Karadec encourages her to remain open-minded. He introduces her to Sergeant Dottie, who runs the course. Dottie quickly realizes she has her work cut out for her after meeting Morgan.
The episode is filled with tension and intrigue as Morgan navigates her way through the new challenges that lie ahead of her in the Detective Training Academy. Her determination and passion for solving crimes will be put to the test in this new environment.
Back at the station, Wagner capitalizes on Morgan's absence to insert himself into the case, openly undermining Soto's leadership by suggesting her team isn't in line. He pairs up with Karadec, who questions his motives. Meanwhile, Karadec and Wagner visit Padilla's house. At the academy, Morgan figures out that Ethan was lying during their first interview and gives a flimsy excuse to get out of class. She calls Karadec, who, fortunately, is still at Padilla's house with Wagner. Even better, they find Ethan secretly searching for something there. They bring in Ethan for questioning and realize he has the skills to kill someone mid-air given his work as an aerospace engineer. Ethan brings up his deceased brother, Silas, who used to work as a test pilot for the Air Force. He started displaying PTSD symptoms and went to Padilla for help. Ethan blames Padilla for his brother's death but refuses to talk about what he was doing at Padilla's house. Wagner oversteps again and gets a warrant to search Ethan's house. Karadec tries to comfort Soto but insists she will handle Wagner herself, tasking Karadec with looking after Morgan.
Later, she gets a call from Arthur, who refuses to come in. Instead, he decides to find out what happened to Roman. At lunchtime, Karadec takes a sandwich to Morgan and reminds her to behave. Afterwards, he and Wagner drop by Padilla's office. The supervisor mentions that Padilla was acting strangely after Silas's death and that he thought something more than PTSD was going on with the test pilots and started investigating. In his office, they find a coded investigation sheet.
Wagner persists in texting Morgan a photo of the board, seeking her expertise despite the potential risk of her being fired. Morgan swiftly figures out the issue and steps out of class to make a call, causing Dottie's patience to wear thin. Thanks to Morgan's assistance, they uncover that Padilla was tracking the pilot's PTSD symptoms.
Wagner and Kardec return to Ethan, who this time is more willing to cooperate. He reveals that he and Padilla discovered a problem with the prototype Air Force plane: the life support system was dysfunctional, resulting in pilots experiencing hypoxia. Based on this new information, they deduce that Ramsay Pike, the lead engineer, had a significant financial stake if Padilla spoke out. Padilla already had proof of the issue, but after his death, Ethan couldn't find the files in his house. It's likely that the killer got there before him and took them.
Wagner and Karadec visit Pike, who insists that Silas's death had nothing to do with his plane and refuses to admit any design flaws in his planes. He demands a warrant if they want the diagnostics. Fortunately, Morgan convinces Dottie to grant a field trip to the TID department, allowing her to sneakily go through Padilla's laptop and call Karadec. It turns out Padilla sent some files to his office printer, which are still in the queue. Karadec and Wagner find the diagnostics and proof that Pike knew about the problem but chose to cover it up.
In the evening, Solomon summons Morgan and reads Dottie's review. Dottie describes Morgan as a "one-woman hurricane" whose abilities can be fully harnessed with supervision. She recommends keeping Morgan as a consultant but under strict supervision. However, Solomon ignores Dottie's recommendation and fires Morgan. Meanwhile, the team continues working on figuring out how Pike killed Padilla. Soto gives Wagner a piece of her mind and blames him for what happened with Morgan, demanding respect for her leadership and team.
Before leaving for the day, Morgan decides to pull an all-nighter before her paperwork is processed. She figures out that Pike switched Padilla's oxygen mask with a faulty one. With the evidence, the team arrests Pike. At the same time, Soto informs her about Arthur's call, promising to keep investigating even without Morgan.
After wrapping up the case, Soto summons Wagner to her office and asks for his support in blackmailing Solomon to get Morgan back on the team. It turns out Solomon is having an affair with the commissioner's wife, and Wagner agrees.
On his way out, Karadec questions why Wagner took his new position, wondering who was powerful enough to scare Wagner into submission. The episode ends with Soto showing up at Morgan's house and informing her that she's back on the team.
