In the second episode of House of David Season 2, Mychal's poignant narrative unfurls as she recounts the fall of the divided house of Saul. Her father, she reveals, was betrayed by the man he loved, painting a picture of treachery and heartbreak. The episode commences with a time-skip of a year following the monumental battle where David vanquished Goliath. Abner summons David, tasking him with quelling Saul's torment.

As Saul confronts David, accusing him of betrayal, the tension simmers. He confronts David directly, asking if Samuel had chosen him to be the new king. To this, David replies firmly that it was God, not Samuel, who had chosen him. In a fit of rage, Saul hurls his spear towards David, the drama unfolding before our eyes.
We then circle back to Saul's triumphant return to Gibeah, where he publicly hails David as the champion of the people. From the balcony of the palace, Ahinoam warns Eshbaal to keep his secret anointment a secret.
Meanwhile, Saul bestows command over a thousand men upon David and promises to wed his daughter to him. Mychal and David are overjoyed to finally see each other in public.
Ahinoam welcomes her husband and children back home with open arms, and everyone greets Eshbaal with joy. Mirab is overjoyed to have her rebellious brother back but soon notices a change in Eshbaal—he is no longer the obnoxious, fun-loving brother she once knew. She asks him about it, and he promises to tell her everything when he is ready.
The news of Nethaniel's death reaches David, prompting him to leave for his family. On the other hand, Abner attempts to convince Samuel to re-anoint Saul on the Day of Atonement. Samuel refuses, warning Abner to get back on the right path lest he face Saul's fate too. He also asks Abner to warn Saul to stop his actions.
In another corner of the story, Jonathan's wounds from the battle fester, and a compassionate maid offers to furtively lead him to a healer's chambers. There, amidst the healing herbs and incense, Jonathan encounters Sara, the granddaughter of the wise healer, Hiram. Her touch restores life to Jonathan, and in that moment, her destiny intertwines with his.
As Jonathan seeks solace, Eshbaal makes a secret visit, observing Jonathan's affection for Sara and offering her a place of honor in the palace. But Sara, with her own sense of honor, refuses the offer.
Back in Gath, Achish nurses his wounded pride after a devastating defeat. The son of King Ashdod, Daganor, pays a visit, bringing news of a new sword-making technology. He declares the age of bronze a thing of the past and ushers in the era of iron.
In Judah, David's family mourns their losses. Eliab confides in David his deep-seated dread of delivering tragic news to families. He shares Nethanel's final message to David, a testament to his brother's pride in him. But as they discuss the events at Gibeah, Eliab is shocked to learn that David is now his new commander.
To prove David's unreadiness for battlefield leadership, Eliab challenges him to a duel. Jessi tries to intervene, but by then it's too late. Eliab's concerns weigh heavily on him—he fears for their lives under David's command. But David persists in his hope for acceptance and shares his hopes for a bloodless transfer of power with Jessi before departing.
Ahinoam, meanwhile, visits Samuel in his prison cell. She pleads with him to reconsider God's decision on Saul's fate, believing the recent victory a sign of God's return to Saul's side. Samuel clarifies that God's mind remains unwavering.
In the twilight hours, Ahinoam endeavors to sway Saul's heart towards a wiser course of action regarding David's trust. She gently urges that David be given more time to prove his worth before he becomes her daughter's husband. Meanwhile, Mirab whispers to Saul, offering a subtle plan to serve both him and her family's interests.
Amid Samuel's unyielding attitude, Ahinoam and Abner concoct a plot, sending Doeg on a path of torture to extract the name of the anointed one from Samuel. A blunder indeed! As Samuel imparts his curse upon Doeg, he sends him on his way to a gruesome fate. Doeg's torment commences, while Samuel flees for safety. Upon learning this news, Saul sends his men scouring for Samuel's whereabouts, determined to recapture him.
In secret, Abner dispatches Goliath's sword to the priest of Nob, asking him to conceal it among the other sacred relics.
As the funeral concludes, David returns to the palace, greeted by a cheering crowd upon his arrival. Mychal beams with excitement, informing him that Saul has called for a meeting. She assumes Saul is about to announce their wedding. In a diabolical turn of events, Saul shockingly reveals Mirab as David's fiancée.
