As the curtains rise on the third chapter of "I, Jack Wright," Sally (played by Nikki Amuka-Bird) continues her prison interview, delving into the psychology behind human actions, particularly when animosity runs deep. Following the introductory segment, Sally engages in a conversation with Rose (Gemma Jones), advocating for a second autopsy. Emily (Ruby Ashbourne Serkis) eavesdrops from a nearby spot, her ears attuned to the conversation. Sally informs Rose that Graham and John have already granted their consent, to which Rose responds with exasperation, wondering aloud why Sally's presence is even necessary when everything seems settled. Rose's frustration bubbles over as she reminisces about marrying Jack when he had next to nothing. Emily interrupts their discourse to discuss the external situation with Sally, who insists she's acting in Josh's (Samuel Small) best interest. Emily agrees to join them, prompting Sally's departure shortly thereafter.

In her car, Sally converses with Max Preston (James Wilby), who casually mentions Asha. Meanwhile, Georgia (Cleo Tapper) confides in John (Daniel Rigby) about their impending lawsuit against Emily, expressing trepidation about the awkwardness of working alongside her. Georgia questions the wisdom of investing in an audit. Elsewhere, DC Kat Jones (Liz Kingsman) confirms to DCI Hector Morgan (Harry Lloyd) that Jack Wright's computer has been retrieved. Hector shares that Jack's former attorney recounted how emotionally charged Jack was when he terminated their services. Later in the day, Hector is set to interview John Wright.

Bella Horrell (Sabrina Bartlett) discovers she's exceeded her overdraft limit, causing her distress. Rose reveals to Gray (John Simm) the gravity of her situation: stage four cancer, with no fifth stage to serve as a buffer. She speaks of uncertainty regarding her remaining days, evoking a somber response from Gray, who wonders what sins he committed to deserve such fate. Cheryl (Pixie Davies) watches the interaction from afar. John, on a call with Sue, subsequently reaches out to Gray, confirming his participation. Cheryl engages Rose in lighthearted chatter, eliciting a genuine laugh from her.

Bella sends Gray a message, requesting his call, but he's occupied with lunch plans with Emily. During their meal, Gray expresses his desire to mend fences with his daughter, hinting at quality time together. Emily, however, points out the conflict of interest—should Gray contest the will, she'll become the defendant. Her continued presence at the firm hinges on the outcome of his lawsuit against her. Gray asks Emily for financial assistance, which upsets her, leading to her abrupt departure. He shifts the conversation to her friend's car, inquiring about Kyle's (Callum Adams) interest in automobiles. Emily curses him and storms off. Gray contacts DC Kat Jones, suggesting they scrutinize Emily's boyfriend, recalling his car parked near Jack's house on the night of his demise. He provides the vehicle's registration number. Eddie, via message, reminds Gray of his outstanding debt.

She recalled that two days ago in the office, John discussed an acquisition case with his father and the atmosphere was harmonious. Inspector Morgan asks John what he thinks of the will, and John admits that it shocked him, as he thought he would be in control of the company. Morgan further asked if there was any indication that Jack had such intention. Georgia quickly denied it, but Morgan insisted that John answer. John denied it again, admitting that Emily was a successful young female entrepreneur, but he found it difficult to understand why his father made this decision.

When secluded from others, John inquiries Georgia about her actual whereabouts on the fateful day Jack passed away. At the police station, Kat imparts to Morgan that the car owner, a man named Reuben Maguire (Portrayed by Percelle Ascott), carries a record of three drug-related convictions, one particularly for the intention to distribute. Additionally, he has served a year in prison for Actual Bodily Harm (ABH). Intriguingly, Jack’s diary contains various entries, one merely noting “Phoenix Rising,” the name of a pub in Deptford where Reuben’s vehicle is registered. Another entry mentions reaching out to John’s solicitors. Kat reveals that Sally has been practicing corporate law for the past nine years between London and Paris. The diary also showcases numerous photographs of Sally with Arnaud Tissier (Played by Jalil Lespert), described as a notorious mob figure. Notably, Sally successfully defended Arnaud in a tax evasion case in 2016. In a conversation about Jack’s murder, Arnaud inquires about seeking legal counsel, while Sally suggests they first discuss the will and related matters.

DCI Morgan ventures to the pub to converse with the manager (Played by Rehanna Bernard), who promptly recognizes Reuben. Sally engages Laura Johnstone (Portrayed by Rakhee Thakrar) in a discussion about her newfound responsibilities and potential liabilities. Laura inquires if she can handle them independently until the will is resolved, to which Sally declines. Seeking advice, Laura plans to revisit the topic with Sally later. Cheryl opens up to Rose about her decision to never remarry, prompting Rose to confess that Jack shattered her heart before she met Bobby. Cheryl expresses a desire to meet Bobby. After Cheryl's departure, Rose inquires about Cheryl’s well-being from nurse Jenny (Played by Gabriella Moran), who doesn’t paint a乐观 picture.

Emily joins John for dinner, where he expresses gratitude for her presence and the tip she provided. John admits that contesting the will wasn’t his immediate inclination, remarking on the isolation that accompanies great wealth. Emily, however, envies such solitude. Georgia’s demeanor darkens upon John’s return home, aware of his outing with Emily. Ignoring her, John retreats to bed. Meanwhile, Emily rendezvous with Reuben for an intimate encounter, only to be interrupted by the arrival of her fiancé, Kyle, as Reuben departs. Emily is taken aback by Kyle’s unexpected visit.

Gray and John confer with Ruth Alleyn (Portrayed by Rebekah Hinds) regarding their challenge, while Emily claims a packed schedule with meetings throughout the day. She proposes supper to catch up, but Ruth advises Gray and John to argue that Jack failed to make reasonable provisions. A judge will determine the appropriate amount, with Ruth confident they can secure a healthy seven-figure sum for both if they proceed to court. After their meeting, Gray asks John for a loan of 10,000 pounds, which John reluctantly denies. Gray pays Rose a visit, who wonders at his frequent stops. He receives a threatening message from Bella, hinting at going to the police. Kyle informs Emily of a successful pitch, believing they have numerous options due to the overwhelming interest. Peter, Susie, and others seek Emily's attention, but Kyle suspects they are finished, believing Emily is involved with someone else.

Kyle expresses unease, stating that this morning, it seemed as though someone had intruded upon her personal space. He harbors regrets about his decision to visit. Emily, attributing the odd atmosphere to recent events, assures Kyle of her delight at his presence. Meanwhile, Gray confides in Rose, detailing his dire predicament and genuine terror. He fears for his life, believing that this time, things could escalate fatally. Gray urgently requires 10,000 immediately, with a total sum of 50,000 needed eventually. Rose, perplexed by how things have deteriorated to this point, queries Gray. He blames his transfer to another school and subsequent isolation for his plight, having attempted to confide in Rose about his loneliness. She, however, admonished him for his ingratitude. Rose justifies their actions, citing financial and emotional struggles at the time. Gray counters, insisting that as a child, he was their responsibility and blames them for his current circumstances. Rose wonders aloud if Gray will ever cease laying blame and jokes about him still causing trouble at 80. When Gray inquires about a loan, Rose refuses, believing it’s time to adopt a stricter, more disciplined form of affection.

Elsewhere, Sally stands silly in the rain, clutching an umbrella as a body is exhumed nearby. Meanwhile, Gray ponders stealing his mother's jewelry. Inside, Annie Rouse hands John an envelope from Deloitte containing the Speckmans' Financial Audit Report. At Donleavy & Co. Solicitors, DCI Morgan converses with Edmund Donleavy, who believes the issues stemmed from Georgia, not her husband. Georgia had tasked him with inquiring about Jack's new will details from Laura, and sought preventing advice on further modifications. Edmund advised direct communication with Jack’s father-in-law, anticipating Georgia would do so herself. This conversation transpired on October 3rd, culminating in his dismissal by Georgia.

John and Emily deliberate on the audit and contemplate lowering their offer further, with Emily convincing John to aim even lower. Desperate, Gray pawns his mother’s ring for a mere nine pounds. Emily spends time with Josh and Daisy, who remains resolute about attending a skiing trip despite the ongoing turmoil. Emily asserts her ignorance regarding Jack’s intentions, expressing empathy for Sally’s will contestation and hoping their bond remains unbroken. Max informs Sally of Jack’s autopsy results, revealing early dementia signs. At the station, Morgan ponders if Jack intended to meet Laura to alter his will once more. Laura recalls a voicemail from Jack requesting another meeting but cannot recall the specifics. Morgan seeks a private conversation with John.

John excitedly shares with Emily the acceptance of their offer, prompting a celebratory toast. They muse on their shared histories and what could have been. DCI Morgan interrupts their revelry, summoning John. Laura calls Sally with grim news: Jack’s accounts are frozen pending probate approval. During questioning, John acknowledges Georgia’s visit to Edmund but asserts his lack of involvement. He admits glancing at a will photocopy with notes beside his name but didn’t comprehend the changes fully. He doubts Georgia’s claim of discussing it with Jack at his club. In a present-day interview, Georgia contrasts John’s perceived niceness with hidden truths. Gray speculates John’s awareness, while Sally comments on Georgia’s true colors becoming apparent. Reuben, a former JK Wright intern, speaks of their capacity for deceit, adding that sometimes, one must look within.
