Episode 5 of the new season of *Invasion* opens with an enigmatic cold start. It features an elderly couple, Martin and Lisa, on a secluded farm, venturing out into the night to confront eerie, alien-like sounds emanating from the darkness. An otherworldly alien presence observes the couple, who are clearly mourning the loss of someone dear—possibly their child.
Meanwhile, President Benya briefs Nikhil via video conference about the emergence of a reinvigorated alien species, dubbed the "hunter-killers." These creatures are nearly impervious to all forms of weaponry, chemical or otherwise. Benya voices her grave concerns, emphasizing that these new aliens are not only more lethal but also multiplying at an alarming rate. The need for a cure is urgent; otherwise, humanity risks losing its edge in this relentless war. Mitsuki steps forward, suggesting she can attempt to infiltrate the aliens' minds. Nikhil, in turn, cautions Maya to allow Mitsuki unrestricted access, overriding any safety protocols put in place for her protection.
Elsewhere, the search for Sarah intensifies near the ravine. Jackson spots footprints and tire marks in the sand, hinting at a military convoy's involvement in her disappearance. Back at the camp, Luke is consumed by guilt, feeling personally responsible for Sarah's abduction. Hanley, one of Clark's most trusted aides, is perplexed as to why the military would go to such lengths to capture a young girl. He suspects Aneesha is concealing something crucial. A spotter reports seeing the convoy heading south along the highway—a route also frequented by the new breed of aliens.
Mitsuki senses that the alien is communicating on frequencies beyond Nikhil's team's current monitoring capabilities. She proposes a daring plan: provoke the alien into revealing itself. Meanwhile, Trevante has been seeking refuge in Rose's apartment. Though skeptical of Caspar's drawings containing hidden clues, their instincts compel them to pursue any lead. Rose identifies a drawing that resembles a location in town.
Luke confides in Ryder about his family's true identity and the reason behind the military's interest in Sarah. Hanley overhears their conversation and confronts Aneesha in front of everyone, attempting to incite the group against the Malik family. Clark, however, steps in to defuse the situation. He covers for Aneesha by falsely claiming she had been truthful with him from the start. He also declares their intention to rescue Sarah from the military, even if it means putting the lives of the Movement's members at risk.
When Rose and Trevante arrive at the designated spot, they observe crows flying in concentric circles overhead. The drawing depicts a scarecrow in a field, with the vantage point seemingly from above. The low, ominous hum of an alien presence once again reverberates through the air. Trevante notices grains of mud forming intricate patterns, reminiscent of the phenomenon witnessed in the previous episode with Jamila and the water.
Rose and Trev trace the source of the commotion to Martin and Lisa's secluded farm. It turns out Rose is acquainted with Martin. As they draw near, Martin utters the cryptic word "Wajo" in a hushed tone—the same phrase Luke had incessantly repeated in the earlier scene with Ryder. Martin appears utterly shell-shocked, and Lisa is nowhere to be found inside the house. He manages to explain, in a trembling voice, that Lisa was inexplicably lifted into the sky by extraterrestrial beings. Before any further details can be extracted, a military representative arrives and forcibly takes Martin away. Trev and Rose pivot towards the farm, where Trev, sensing Rose's distress, inquires about Billy—a name Martin had mentioned while recounting Lisa's disappearance. Overwhelmed with emotion, Rose bursts into tears, unable to fully articulate Billy's significance to her.
Above the lab in Brazil, where Mitsuki is diligently working on her covert plan, a familiar pattern of crows hovers ominously. Maya, Mitsuki's loyal confidante, reassures her that she will never jeopardize Mitsuki's safety for the sake of the mission, regardless of the orders given. Mitsuki proceeds with her daring plan, entering the alien's chamber and attempting to trigger a response. After several attempts, the alien finally reacts, emitting a strong RF signal. The response intensifies, and the alien lets out a piercing, agonized shriek that reverberates through the room.
In an astonishing twist, Mitsuki hears the alien communicate with her in Japanese, pleading with her to cease the provocation. The alien then transforms into the shape of a young girl, a figure eerily familiar to Mitsuki, though her identity remains a mystery. Mitsuki, moved by compassion, switches off the irritant signal to alleviate the alien's suffering. The alien then reveals the true purpose of their visit to Earth: to comprehend the longstanding conflict between humans and their kind.
The episode reaches its surreal climax as the alien emits the voice of Hinata and completely envelops a willing Mitsuki in its otherworldly, viscous substance. Within this ethereal embrace, Mitsuki distinctly perceives Caspar calling out for Jamila. Before any further revelations can unfold, Maya intervenes, pulling Mitsuki out of the alien's grasp. Mitsuki, visibly shaken and injured, utters the haunting words to conclude the episode: "They're out there."
