Episode 4 of Season 2 of "Invincible" bridges the narrative gap by revealing Nolan's cosmic odyssey following his departure from Earth. Wandering aimlessly through the vast expanse of space, Nolan narrowly escapes being swallowed by a black hole but serendipitously rescues a group of Thraxans on the brink of a similar fate. He reappears before Mark, echoing the haunting scene from the preceding episode, much to Mark's mixed emotions—relief tempered by disappointment as Nolan reveals his sole purpose in returning is to aid the Thraxans. Nolan has forged a new life with Andressa (Rhea Seehorn), his wife, and their infant child.

Invincible – Season 2 Episode 4 1

Elsewhere, Debbie, barefoot and resilient, treks across the urban landscape to visit Nolan's mock tomb, a poignant gesture of her unresolved grief. Meanwhile, the Mauler, a burnt and scarred figure, spawns another clone, Donald, who—upon finding his glasses at the scene of his demise—stumbles upon unsettling truths about his existence. Nolan implores Mark to assist in shielding his new family from the menacing Viltrumites, whose arrival precedes Mark's decision-making. Eve squares off against Killcannon once more, amidst expectations that prove unfulfilled as Eve's actions inadvertently wreak havoc.

Andressa confides in Mark, her voice tinged with sincerity, that her life span equates to but a single human year, her intentions never to usurp anyone's place. As Mark confronts Lucan, a formidable Viltrimute warrior, Nolan intervenes, rescuing his son from certain peril. Eve's clash with Killcannon takes a turn for the worse, causing collateral damage that underscores the gravity of their conflict.

Art arrives at Debbie's doorstep, offering solace and empowering her to recognize her inherent strength. Meanwhile, Donald, transfixed by surveillance footage of his demise, grapples with the stark reality of his cloned existence. Mark and Nolan find themselves entangled in a fierce battle against two Viltrumites, with Nolan urging Mark to embrace the necessity of lethal combat to unleash his latent potential.

Fuelled by a searing anger stemming from the loss of countless innocents, Mark taps into a reservoir of unprecedented speed and power. Just as victory seems within grasp, Lucan reappears, complicating the equation. The Viltrumites seize Lucan and Nolan, providing them with medical aid amidst the chaos.

This episode weaves a tapestry of cosmic adventure, profound emotional journeys, and high-stakes battles, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats as the narrative hurtles towards its climactic denouement.

Eve, her heart heavy, makes her way back home aboard a bus, consciously refraining from deploying her abilities. Meanwhile, Donald finds himself in a bathroom, teetering on the edge of despair as he ponders suicide. He slices his skin, and to his astonishment, though blood flows freely, he realizes he possesses a degree of superhuman resilience, affirming his status as a clone. General Kregg of the Viltrumite force informs Mark of Nolan's impending execution, revealing his sinister plan to coerce Mark into submitting Earth to their empire, naming Mark as Nolan's successor. Elsewhere, King Mauler harbors ambitions to assemble a clone army, but his dreams are brutally cut short by the blades of another Mauler, who claims his throne.
