The sun casts its golden rays over the serene ranch as Kayce and Tate ride out together, fishing by the river. They cook their catch, creating a bond that will soon be tested by the demands of Kayce's new role as Marshal. It's a bittersweet moment—a perfect afternoon interrupted by the impending change.

Calvin and Kayce prepare for any case that may come up, while Andrea hits the bag and trains, her determination unwavering. Belle updates everyone on the locker and bathroom situation in this unisex get-out, making it feel like a mini-NCIS base.
As Kayce is shown around, the team is assembled for a call from CI about a hit on a fugitive named Raul Garza—a former member of the 406 Royals last seen at the Belgrade trailer park. The squad breaks in and takes Garza hostage, but another shadowy figure watches from a car, driving off. It might be a coincidence, but Kayce is not so sure.
Back at base, there's a situation with a stray horse on the ranch, and Kayce heads back to round it up before continuing with the case. Andrea continues to be abrasive and confrontational about the whole thing, her edge always sharpened.
When they return, Andrea has found out about a fentanyl deal going down between the Aryans and the 406 Royals. Lenny Nelson, an Aryan member, came to Bozeman to let the Royals test the fent. The tension in the air thickens as they prepare for what's to come.
FBI chatter reveals that they're planning something big, and with the DEA dragging their heels, the plan is to go in all guns blazing. Kayce will utilize his combat expertise as they venture into a no-man's land, aptly named the "Zone of Death." This desolate area lies just over the Wyoming border and is a place Kayce knows well but keeps secret from everyone else.
There's no way to prosecute in this area, and while the initial idea is just to ID the crooks and let the DEA complete the deal, it could easily escalate into a major firefight. It's a dangerous area, and Kayce is definitely on edge. The tracking plan is to place these trackers on the Royals' vehicles. The DEA will then follow and take down the group.
As for the Aryans, Andrea and Calvin will conduct surveillance from a nearby rock outcropping before interdicting them on horseback. They'll wait until after the deal to take them down, given it's the opportune time with their guard down. With everything set up, the deal goes ahead, and with others on lookout duties, Belle places the trackers on the trucks as scheduled. However, Miles gets into trouble due to a rattlesnake and can't get into position.
But we soon learn that this deal isn't just about fentanyl. It turns out that the Aryans have a makeshift, homemade bomb too. The Aryans are about to carry out a major hit, but before it can reach that point, Kayce comes in hot, all guns blazing. He saves Miles, moves the snake, and fires at the two groups... but there's a problem. The bomb in the SUV has gone off as the Aryans drive off.
Kayce follows on horseback and manages to stop the car, killing the injured Aryan in the process. Bundling the body on horseback, he dumps it in the Zone of Death valley below. After this incident, the group reconvenes at base. Calvin explains that the Fentanyl didn't reach Bozeman, while the bomb didn't reach the federal courthouse in Idaho, where it was designed to go off.
However, there's a slight inconsistency in the final report too. The report states there were 5 Aryans in total, and while 3 were arrested and 1 killed in the SUV, there's still 1 more unaccounted for. We know that Kayce dropped him off in the Valley but he keeps this a secret from the others.
Meanwhile, Andrea continues to stir things up by bringing up to Gifford that Kayce defied orders and seemed spooked after she mentioned his brother Jamie earlier in the episode. Calvin speaks to Kayce afterward, and things are left on a rather tenuous note between them.
When Kayce heads home, he checks in on Tate who reveals that he went and saw his maternal grandfather. He wants them to honor Tate's mom, Monica, at an upcoming remembrance ceremony that includes bringing her favorite necklace. Kayce tells Tate that he'll look for it, but in reality, it's actually been inside his breast pocket this whole time.
