Modern Family Season 2 Episode 22

Published: Aug 01 2025

As we draw closer to the conclusion of season two, it's undeniable that our cherished moments across the past twenty-odd episodes of 'Modern Family' have predominantly revolved around uncovering fresh facets of these beloved characters. And, perhaps as a gesture to reclaim our hearts following last week's episode (our apologies, folks), last night's installment dedicated a substantial portion of its runtime to unveiling new dimensions of several personalities. Some aspects were chilling, others deeply moving, and one even featured an adorable puppy.

The Pritchett-Tuckers

The show's previews had hinted at Cameron and Mitchell's Lady Gaga concert escapade, accompanied by "Bad Romance," leaving us cautiously optimistic that the episode wouldn't be overrun by tacky cross-promotional content. Instead, the guys' narrative turned out to be as hilarious and heartwarming as any tale involving the word "synergy" has any right to be. It was delightful to witness Mitch's infectious excitement about the Lady Gaga concert, for it's always refreshing to see him thoroughly enthusiastic about anything. His proclamation of Gaga as "the one gay cliché I allow myself," while primly crossing his legs and then awkwardly overcorrecting into a high-school jock stance, was a hoot. But what was even more enjoyable was observing him tiptoe around his excitement in Cam's presence, who mysteriously fell ill on the day of the show.

Mitch pampered him with foot rubs, brewed him tea, and picked up soiled tissues with an oversized pair of barbecue tongs, remarking that "the bed looks like a Rose Parade float." Throughout this, he grappled with the delicate issue of what to do about the concert tickets. ("We could both go, but that's out of the question. We could sell them online, but there's that Craigslist Killer...") He eventually decides to wait it out and come up with a half-hearted excuse for Cam at the last minute, securing his blessing despite his runny nose. However, just as Mitch is about to leave with Lily, intending to drop her off with Auntie Bad Cop, Cam stumbles out of the bedroom, furious despite apparently having guzzled a bottle of cough syrup earlier.

Mitch apologizes and backtracks just enough for Cam to collapse onto the couch and drift off. Hours later, Cam wakes up to find Mitch by his side, quietly reading and playing the part of the devoted caretaker — albeit with a glow-stick necklace still tucked under his shirt. Let's assume they filmed this episode before Lady Gaga released "Judas"; otherwise, that would have been a golden opportunity missed.
