Episode 1 of Off Campus unfolds at Briar University, where Hannah Wells encounters the hockey team captain, Garrett Graham, in the showers. The encounter sparks panic in Hannah as she glimpses his naked form and flees.
The next day, Hannah sits in Philosophy class with her friend, overhearing jocks, Beau and Garrett, grumbling about their dismal grades on a paper. When Hannah receives her paper back, Garrett is taken aback by her score. After class, Hannah and her friend bump into her best friend, Allie Hayes. As they chat, Allie brings up Hannah's crush on the musician Justin Kohl. Garrett approaches Hannah and asks for help with Philosophy, but she rejects him and refuses to tutor him.
Later, Hannah heads to music practice. After class, her music teacher informs her that she won't receive a scholarship that year due to budget cuts. This revelation leaves Hannah panicked about her future at Briar. She then learns about the upcoming pop showcase and decides to apply as a composer. Hannah tells her teacher that she can write a new song since winning the showcase would earn her a scholarship.
Meanwhile, Garrett's roommates and fellow hockey players - Dean DiLaurentis, John Logan, and John Tucker - prepare for a party at their off-campus house. At the party, Garrett hooks up with a girl named Kendall.
Hannah works at Malone's with Allie. They discuss Justin, who is performing there with his band. Allie encourages Hannah to ask him out. Hannah mentions her awkward shower encounter with Garrett and admits to getting paranoid around boys. Allie forces Hannah to attend a party the following night.
That night, Hannah grappled with the challenge of crafting lyrics for the upcoming showcase, while Garrett, consumed by his passion for hockey, ignored calls from his father following their intimate encounter with Kendall. Kendall attempted to engage in a heart-to-heart conversation, yet Garrett, resolute in his focus on his sport, dismissed her feelings. He claimed their relationship was casual and that she only admired him for his impending success in the NHL, not for who he truly was.
The following morning, the boys gathered for a workout, where Garrett's situation with Kendall was discussed. Logan brought up Garrett's disregard for his father's texts and urged him to reconnect with his ex-NHL player father, Phil Graham. Meanwhile, Hannah confided in Allie about the pop showcase, admitting her inexperience with love and the challenge of writing a love song. Allie encouraged her to persevere before reminding her of her shift at Malone's.
Hannah rushed to work to find Garrett chatting with two girls. Justin arrived to collect his takeout order, and Hannah awkwardly tried to engage him. Unfortunately, Justin appeared completely uninterested. Later, Garrett asked Hannah about tutoring again and even offered to pay her. However, Hannah's dismissive attitude towards hockey irked Garrett.
Later that day, the boys returned home to find Phil waiting for Garrett. Dean, Tucker, and Logan greeted him warmly, but Garrett remained distant. Phil announced his plans to marry his girlfriend, Cindy, further upsetting Garrett, who refused to meet her.
That night, Garrett redirected his anger into the hockey game, recalling his father's angry outbursts at his mother when he was younger. He unleashed his frustration on the ice, only to be benched after shoving a player from the rival team.
Meanwhile, Hannah worked at the stalls outside the stadium when she spotted a familiar face. Panicked, she left and hid inside a nearby greenroom. During halftime, Garrett stepped out of the locker room to cool off. Inside the greenroom, Hannah played an Elton John song and danced around while singing to calm herself down. Garrett noticed her having fun and slowly relaxed. He returned to the game with a clearer head and helped Briar crush Eastwood.
After the win, Garrett noticed the disappointment on Phil's face and felt satisfied by it. That evening, Hannah sat in her room watching "Dirty Dancing" when Allie and her boyfriend Sean burst in and invited her to a block party. Allie insisted Justin would be there and even picked out an outfit for Hannah.
At the party, Hannah danced with her friends while Garrett hung out with Logan. Logan noticed Garrett looking through Hannah's Instagram account. Dean and Tucker joined them as the boys took shots and celebrated. Meanwhile, Allie caught Dean making out with a girl while Garrett remained fixated on Hannah as she tried talking to Justin. However, Hannah bumped into someone and spilled a drink all over her T-shirt. Justin barely reacted while Hannah talked about her musical background.
Garrett noticed her struggling and stepped in by offering his jacket. He pretended to be with Hannah and introduced himself to Justin. Since Justin was a hockey fan, he suddenly became interested in the conversation and finally noticed Hannah because Garrett was standing beside her.
After Justin left, Garrett told Hannah that Justin only wanted her now because she suddenly seemed unavailable. He offered to help Hannah make Justin jealous in exchange for tutoring sessions. Garrett insisted he genuinely wanted to earn a good grade and asked Hannah to help him. The episode ended with Hannah agreeing to tutor Garrett as the two struck a deal to help each other out.
