Episode 5 of *Only Murders in the Building* Season 5 kicks off with Detective Donna Williams rendezvousing with Charles, Mabel, and Oliver in the basement casino. The trio eagerly attempts to present Donna with all the clues they'd unearthed in the casino a few nights prior. However, their excitement is short-lived as they swiftly discover that the blood-stained carpets have been meticulously cleaned and replaced.
Donna, ever the pragmatist, urges the trio to seek out individuals employed by the billionaires if they desire any meaningful insights into them. Yet, she steadfastly refuses to lend a hand herself, fearing the repercussions of losing her job or being transferred to a far-flung location. Mabel, undeterred, inquires about probing into Sofia's background, but Charles, feeling a sense of connection from their last encounter, volunteers to pay her a visit.
Mabel can't help but chuckle when she learns that Charles has been dabbling in a dating app tailored for the elderly. Charles, with a reassuring smile, promises Mabel and Oliver that he won't let dating sidetrack him from their murder investigation. In a private moment, Charles confides in Oliver that he's been taking testosterone, which has left him feeling invigorated and full of energy.
Later that day, Mabel and Oliver arrange a meeting with Randall to delve deeper into the casino's mysteries. However, their plans take an unexpected turn when Howard saunters in, boasting about the capabilities of robot Lester, which inadvertently makes Randall appear less competent. Howard goes on to reveal that the robot is gathering information on all the residents, providing him with a wealth of gossip.
Mabel and Oliver decide to follow Ursula, hoping to engage her in a conversation about the gaming parlour/casino. Ursula, with a hint of resignation, mentions that she's on the lookout for a side hustle ever since Arconia started hiring robots to replace human jobs. She then drops a tantalizing clue about "Tommy, the Tongue," the man who used to work alongside Lester.
Eager for more information, Mabel and Oliver inquire if Tommy is missing a finger, but Ursula clams up, refusing to discuss the matter further. They quickly text Charles, urging him to broach the subject with Sofia. However, Charles's date is proving to be quite the distraction. Just then, Mayor Tillman makes an appearance at the same restaurant and strikes up a conversation with Charles about the podcast.
Later that same night, Charles and Sofia found themselves engaged in conversation, though it quickly fizzled out as passion took over, fueled by Charles's heightened hormonal state. Meanwhile, Mabel and Oliver made the decision to seek out Gary, the building's former trash collector. To their surprise, they learned that Gary was no longer employed there and instead encountered Miller, who had been handling the trash collection duties for the past three years. During their chat, Miller inadvertently let slip that Charles was on testosterone and that Oliver had turned down a lucrative offer to sell his apartment.
Mabel was taken aback to discover Oliver's intention to sell his apartment without consulting her or Charles. However, when the pair mentioned Tommy's name, Miller's demeanor shifted, and he abruptly asked them to leave. Curious, Mabel and Oliver rummaged through the staff lockers and stumbled upon a chilling note etched into a table: "Die, Lester Die."
Just then, the building staff arrived, and Randall clarified that the note was directed at Lester the robot, not the deceased doorman. The staff members began to voice their concerns about job security, prompting Oliver to attempt to calm the situation by calling for an emergency resident meeting to address these issues.
The following morning, Oliver and Mabel prepared for the meeting as they awaited Charles's arrival. Howard showed up unexpectedly and revealed that Lester the robot had ranked all the building's residents, casually mentioning that Mabel was ranked fourth while Oliver languished at the bottom at two hundred and thirty-seventh.
At the meeting, Oliver's efforts to foster interaction between tenants and staff fell flat. Some residents argued in favor of machine/robot staff for their convenience, while the staff countered that humans were irreplaceable. Ursula, in a dramatic gesture, declared that all human staff would resign if Robot Lester was not removed. Just then, Charles stumbled in, still drunk from the previous night, and created a scene.
Oliver struggled to maintain the residents' focus as chaos ensued. Howard's panic escalated when he realized that Lester the robot had been kidnapped. Mabel confronted Charles about his testosterone use and his reckless encounter with a suspect. Charles, embarrassed, admitted that his conversation with Sofia had yielded no relevant information for the case.
Mabel proposed that they extract information from Lester the robot, only to discover that it had been hurled off the building and destroyed. Howard was devastated by the loss of his only friend in the building. However, his spirits lifted when a new robot was delivered to the premises.
Miller reappeared, presenting a portrait of Lester he had crafted from the trash they had been searching through. Oliver seized the opportunity to ask Miller about the offer he had discarded. Meanwhile, Charles confided in Mabel and Oliver that he had lost his phone, which contained photos from Nicky's autopsy, and revealed that Sofia knew his passcode.
Mabel keeps tabs on Sofia's whereabouts using her phone, and the trio sets off with the intention of intercepting Sofia en route. During the drive, Mabel breaks the news to Charles that Oliver is on the move. The three engage in a lively discussion about Oliver and how both he and Charles are Mabel's sole confidants. As they chat, Charles takes a closer look at the poster Miller had previously shared, and they manage to uncover an address. Mabel then drops a bombshell: it's the very location where Sofia has stashed Charles' phone.
Just then, Donna rings Mabel up and reveals that Tommy the Tongue isn't a person at all, but rather a thriving company that's raked in a fortune. She goes on to explain that every last penny of the company's funds has been withdrawn, and the withdrawal took place at the same address where Sofia is currently holed up.
As the episode draws to a close, Donna issues a stark warning to the trio, advising them against stepping foot inside the house. Undeterred, they proceed anyway, only to discover Sofia and Lorraine—the wives of Nicky and Lester, respectively—waiting for them inside.
