Orphan Black: Echoes – Episode 3 Season 1

Published: Jul 09 2024

Episode 3 of Orphan Black: Echoes kicks off with Jules awakening from a deep slumber, akin to a "coma." As she gently touches her ear, pink ink stains her fingertips, signaling to the audience that she has been recently "printed." She is admitted to Beacon Bayview, where Dr. Pam Teller, her designated therapist, weaves elaborate tales of a car crash and subsequent memory loss.

Over the ensuing days, Pam goes to great lengths to implant a fictitious past in Jules' mind, even attempting to introduce her to a fabricated friend. However, Jules instead finds a bond with Pam herself. After her adoption, Wes and Neva strive to make her feel at home.

Meanwhile, Jack and Lucy arrive at Beacon Bayview. Overhearing their inquiries about Jules, a nurse reveals Pam Teller's unauthorized involvement and mentions that Jules has been experiencing the same blood-soaked dream that plagues Lucy.

Elsewhere, Kira encounters Josh, a former employee, and expresses concern that a malfunction may have rendered Lucy dangerous. Josh assures her that Lucy is a flawless match to the model and fully human. Kira is plagued with guilt, as she had never intended to abandon Lucy.

Back at school, Jules discretely sells drugs to Claire, who may be more than just a friend. Each time she sees the pink ink, Jules becomes disoriented, and Pam's constant inquiries about her whereabouts and actions strike her as odd. She queries Pam about the sender of her belongings and the discrepancy in her diary entries. Pam's therapist-like responses fail to satisfy Jules' curiosity.

Later, at home, Jules and Wes delve into her diary and uncover an entry that is identical to an excerpt from "Pegasus Girl," a novel by David Stanley. They trace the author's address online and confront him. Under pressure, Stanley confesses that he was commissioned to write the diary as part of a study, pleading with them not to reveal his literary borrowing to his employers.

Meanwhile, Emily and Tom stumbled upon CCTV footage revealing Lucy's entry into Neva's office. Emily's doubts began to surface as the autopsy revealed that the bounty hunter was shot by someone shorter than Lucy. She pondered if Lucy wasn't truly dangerous, but merely trapped in a corner. However, Tom clung to his unwavering 'shoot first, ask questions later' mentality.

Kira arrived seeking Darros' reassurance that his men wouldn't harm Lucy. He smiled broadly, jesting that he wasn't a movie villain and promised to protect her. But Kira wasn't easily convinced, especially as she caught Emily fidgeting nervously. She peered into the security agent's past, uncovering a former CIA agent. Alone, she approached Emily, who simply urged her to find Lucy before Darros Security did.

Later, Kira encountered her son, Lucas, and his Quaker girlfriend Rhona at Additive's blood drive. Her smile was genuine, but behind it, she stealthily stole Lucas' blood.

Elsewhere, Charlie struggled to adapt, her PTSD a constant companion. Tina attempted to soothe her with a park visit, but Charlie was overwhelmed, pushing someone aside. A cop arrived, and Charlie confessed to killing the hunter, feeling unbearable guilt. Tina quickly intervened, defusing the situation. However, neither Jack nor Lucy could reach Charlie's troubled soul. In the end, they held a funeral for the fallen hunter, seeking closure.

Lucy received an unexpected visitor: Jules, who had finally chosen to believe her. Together, they pondered the bloody memory, and Jules proposed a solution—drugs that could clarify dreams. She headed home to retrieve them, and despite Lucy's warnings, Jules was confident that nothing would happen as she remained unsuspected.

Unfortunately, that confidence was misplaced. Pam had alerted the Lees about Jules' unhealthy behaviors and troubling associations. At the conclusion of Orphan Black: Echoes Episode 3, the Lees forced Jules to take "antidepressants," which she promptly vomited out once alone.
