Episode 3 of "Overcompensating" resumes right where we left off, with Miles standing at Benny's doorstep, clutching Benny's misplaced fake ID, which had fallen outside the club the previous night. Inside, Benny is engrossed – or rather, disengaged – in watching "The Godfather," a film he clearly doesn't enjoy. Miles confesses his own unfamiliarity with the cinematic classic, revealing that their shared favorite is the cult hit "Jennifer's Body." They enthusiastically agree to catch up sometime soon, and Miles takes his leave.

Later, Miles shoots Benny a friend request online, which Benny, curious, promptly accepts. His thumbs barely pause before rushing to Carmen's place, eager for some companionship. However, whenever Miles initiates plans, Benny politely declines and scampers off to invite Carmen instead, only to be met with rejection each time.

Meanwhile, Benny receives an enticing invitation to join Flesh & Gold, the university's elite and exclusive club. He eagerly checks if Carmen has received one too, but to his disappointment, she hasn't. Undeterred, Benny invites her to lunch at the dining hall, oblivious to the fact that it's her brother's death anniversary. Haunted by memories, Carmen struggles to articulate her feelings amidst her brother's friends' poignant posts flooding her social media feed. In a somber mood, she declines Benny's offer.

Benny finds himself sitting alone at lunch, feeling as though every pair of eyes in the room – from fellow students to cooks and waiters – is scrutinizing him. His anxiety spirals as he fantasies that his sexual orientation will somehow be revealed, leaving him exposed and vulnerable. Fortunately, Miles' timely arrival disrupts his tumultuous thoughts, offering a welcome distraction. Excited to learn that Benny has also received a Flesh & Gold invitation, Miles clings to the hope of having a familiar face at the exclusive club.

Reaching out to pat Benny's shoulder in camaraderie, Miles beams with anticipation for their shared experience ahead. But Benny's paranoia resurfaces, imagining whispers and judgments about his sexuality echoing through the dining hall. Jolted, he abruptly pulls away and bolts from the scene, his meal barely touched. Left solitary, Miles shares in the discomfort, sensing the weight of unseen eyes upon him. To cope, he pretends to be engrossed in his laptop, hiding behind a screen of false productivity.

Benny endeavors to secure an invitation for Carmen, amidst Peter's assertion that Carmen's sole opportunity to shine lies in stealing the spotlight at the eagerly anticipated black-and-yellow tailgate bash later that evening. Elsewhere, Hailee and Carmen indulge in a girly chat filled with fashion tips and outfit selections for the upcoming tailgate festivity. Soon after, Benny arrives and somewhat coerces Carmen into attending the tailgate as well.

At the event, Benny's demeanor takes a peculiar turn. He finds himself shouting and exaggerating mundane occurrences, such as when Carmen partakes in four pot brownies generously offered by Chris. He urges her to participate in various activities, practically dragging her from one end of the party to the other. Meanwhile, Benny makes a detour to the F&G pre-game, where he inquires about his job prospect at Hawksworth Financial with the former keeper. Regrettably, Benny's academic performance leaves much to be desired, jeopardizing his chances of receiving the offer. When he asks about the keeper's position, which he had earlier boasted about to Grace, he is met with the harsh reality that he lacks both the influence and wealth necessary to secure such a role.

Over at the tailgate, Grace reunites with her old friend Mimi, both having once been co-hosts of the school's radio show. Mimi expresses nostalgia for the Grace she once knew, before her relationship with Peter began to change her.

Meanwhile, Benny persists in his endeavor to make Carmen stand out. Carmen senses something is amiss and, upon probing, Benny confesses his motive behind wanting her to join the secret club. Carmen, willing to collaborate, selects "Edward 40 Hands," a challenge she excels at.

The game captures the undivided attention of the students. The rule is simple yet daunting: be the first to finish two bottles of beer taped to one's hands. Carmen lives up to her reputation, emerging victorious in the game. In the throes of excitement, Carmen accidentally shatters a beer bottle, leaving her hands smeared in blood. Undeterred, the crowd continues to cheer and chant her name, their enthusiasm unwavering.

Grace assists a heavily intoxicated and deeply despondent Peter back to their abode, while Carmen is whisked away to the hospital via ambulance. Chris, meanwhile, encourages Benny to indulge in some pot brownies, the effects of which soon render Benny utterly stoned and struggling to maintain composure. As he encounters Miles, Benny's imagined conversation diverges wildly from the words actually tumbling from his lips. In a haze, he heads to the supermarket in search of beverages, sensing that the shopkeeper is scrutinizing him, as if privy to his innermost secrets, prompting an abrupt departure.

While Peter lies unconscious on the bed, Grace finds solace in Mimi's late-night radio program. Elsewhere, Benny stumbles into Carmen's room, where she reveals it's her brother's death anniversary. She confesses to feeling like a failure as a sister, unable to articulate her grief on social media. Yet, she expresses gratitude to Benny for taking her mind off her sorrow through their tailgating escapade, which echoed memories she cherished with her late brother.

Carmen invites Benny to partake in one final tribute—playing a video game they both once shared with her brother. Reaching the game's climactic round, Carmen posts a picture, accompanied by a poignant caption acknowledging her achievement and wishing her brother could have been there, or hinting, "Perhaps you were with me in spirit."

Hailee returns to the dorm, her evening with a paramedic encounter lingering in her mind. In a moment of loose lips, she lets slip that Benny had boasted about a sexual encounter with her, much to Carmen's outrage over his deceit. The episode concludes with Carmen receiving an invitation to join the exclusive Flesh & Gold.
