Overcompensating – Season 1 Episode 4 1

Elsewhere, Peter's spirits remain dampened, crushed by the dual disappointments of missing out on both the Keeper role and the Hawksworth job. Just as despair threatens to engulf him, a sudden, annoying knock at his door interrupts his melancholy. To his astonishment, it transpires that F&G has reversed their decision and bestowed upon him the title of Keeper after all. His excitement knows no bounds as he eagerly shares the news with Grace, visioning them as a dominant duo, ruling the school with an iron fist.

Grace too has news that sends her spirits soaring—she's landed a gig working the Charlie XCX concert at school. Peter, however, is less than thrilled. He urges her to abandon the opportunity, insisting that as the Keeper's girlfriend, she deserves to watch the concert from the VIP section rather than toil behind the scenes.

Later, at the F&G initiation party, Benny and Carmen's paths cross once more. Benny adopts an air of nonchalance, acting as though all should be forgiven and forgotten, puzzled by Carmen's silence in response to his texts. He pleads for them to reconcile, warning that their strained relationship could jeopardize her acceptance into the exclusive club.

Benny is convinced that his influence was the catalyst behind Carmen receiving the coveted invitation. Standing her ground, Carmen firmly asserts her self-worth, reminding Benny that she earned her place by triumphing in the Edward 40 challenge and attaining legendary status. She makes it clear that she doesn't require his endorsement to remain in the club; however, he might very well need her support. With that, Carmen strides away, leaving Benny to be joined by Miles.

Just then, Peter and the esteemed F&G crew make their entrance. Peter declares that, despite every freshman present having received an invitation, they must still compete to prove their worthiness of becoming club members. Over the next week, they will be divided into two groups and subjected to a rigorous series of elimination challenges. Only those who endure until the end will gain entrance into the exclusive club.

The competition commences with a twist. The girls find themselves atop vibrating washing machines, where any jiggling body part serves as a reminder of areas needing improvement—a directive to shed weight and tighten their skin. Meanwhile, Peter leads the boys, stark-naked, into the depths of the woods, tasking them with finding their way back to the frat house before sunset.

When questioned about his next move, Peter claims to have a plan and reaches out to Grace for assistance. However, Grace, opting to work the Charlie XCX concert, abruptly ends the call by informing Peter of her busy schedule and hanging up. Peter pretends the conversation is still ongoing, shielding the boys from the reality of Grace's rejection. Elsewhere, Carmen and Emily awe the other girls with their charm, earning an invitation to join them for a pre-concert dinner at an upscale restaurant.

In the heart of the woods, Benny and Miles forge a bond as they navigate their way back to campus. Benny's familiarity with the terrain, thanks to his Boy Scout background, proves invaluable. Miles, hailing from Essex and possessing spare tickets to the Charlie concert, generously invites Benny to accompany him. Together, Benny and Miles emerge victorious as the first pair to complete their task.

Later, the girls, accompanied by Emily, arrived at the restaurant well ahead of schedule. Carmen, however, lagged behind and discovered to her dismay that they had already ordered a meal she couldn't consume due to her lactose intolerance. The girls, skeptical of such dietary restrictions, speculated that it was merely a pretext employed by someone who wished to avoid dinner out of fear of revealing a high school eating disorder. Undeterred, Carmen resolved to partake in the meal anyway.

Emily effortlessly captured the admiration of the girls, whereas Carmen seemed to irritate them. In a desperate bid to win over her newfound "girlfriends," Carmen, fully aware of her earlier promise to Hailee, nonetheless offered an extra concert ticket. Hailee, unimpressed and unmasking Carmen's ploy, called her out on it. Yet, undeterred by such setbacks, Carmen remained committed to living up to the tailgate legend, even if it meant alienating some people in the process.

Back at the frat house, the boys faced their final challenge: consuming a cup of raw fish and eight cans of beer. Miles, a vegetarian, struggled with the fish component, but Benny came to his rescue.

At the concert hall, Grace was in full talent liaison glory, directing her subordinates with authority as they awaited Charlie's arrival. Her prowess impressed Charlie, and post-concert, she was invited to join him on his bus.

Meanwhile, Benny and Carmen fared poorly at the concert. Both urgently sought the bathrooms, but the girls' toilets were swamped, prompting Carmen to venture into the men's room. Inside, she found Benny in a state of severe vomiting, barely able to stand. Carmen accused Benny of pressuring her into joining the Flesh and Gold club.

Miles discovered Benny slumped on the bathroom floor and assisted him back to the dorms. Benny expressed concern for Carmen, but she assured him her girlfriends would await her. Little did she know, they had already departed, leaving Carmen to walk back to the dorms alone, the once lively atmosphere now replaced by a haunting solitude.

In the meantime, Peter inadvertently catches snippets of a whispered conversation among the boys, who are discussing him behind his back with cruelty. They sneer that he is crippled, financially strapped, and devoid of any influential connections. They claim his position as the keeper was merely a charity case, bestowed upon him out of pity by the alumni. Furthermore, they scorn the tests he devised for the incoming freshmen, dismissing them as equally feeble. Deeply hurt and demoralized, Peter reaches out to Grace, only to find her phone unanswered.

Elsewhere, Carmen bumps into Hailee just outside the concert hall. Hailee, still smarting from being abandoned by Carmen in favor of a clique of girls who subsequently left her high and dry, radiates a palpable anger. Meanwhile, Miles is attending to Benny in his dorm room, kindly offering to stay the night as Benny's roommate is absent. As the episode draws to a close, Carmen chance encounters Peter and, despite the circumstances, decides to accompany him on a walk, seeking solace in each other's company.
