Episode 1 of "Peacemaker" kicks off with our protagonist, fully or at least sufficiently recovered, striding out of the hospital doors. With a solemn promise to the janitor to "even out" his killing spree by targeting more whites in the future, Peacemaker hails a taxi for the ride back home.
However, just as he's about to leave, a nurse discreetly informs someone named Clemson Murn that Peacemaker is "on his way." In turn, Murn sends a cryptic message to Leota, who is with her girlfriend Keeya, telling her, "The Dove's headed to the coop." This cryptic reference, of course, points to Peacemaker making his way back to his dilapidated trailer.
Upon arriving, Peacemaker is met with a scene of chaos and disarray. After briefly checking his messages from Vigilante, he lets his guard down momentarily, only to find himself surrounded by several figures aiming guns at him – Leota among them.
Despite having served only a fraction of his prison sentence, Peacemaker still has time left to repay his debt. But instead of being forcibly returned to jail, he's offered a deal by Clemson Murn: work for him on Project Butterfly. Convinced from his previous gig with the Starfish that he's destined to battle a giant moth, Peacemaker eagerly pleads with Murn to procure him a jetpack.
However, the truth is far from what Peacemaker envisions. Butterfly is merely a code word for a series of assassinations. Refuse, and he risks detonation of the bomb implanted in his neck or a return to the confines of prison. In reality, he doesn't have much of a choice at all!
With an agreement to reconvene later that evening, Peacemaker sets off to visit his estranged father, Auggie Smith. The bond between them is clearly frayed, as evidenced by the coldness in the air. Upon arrival, Auggie hastily introduces his son to Eaglely, his beloved pet eagle, which wraps its majestic wings around Peacemaker in a tender, yet fleeting, moment of camaraderie, abruptly shattered by Auggie's abrupt departure.
Over a meal laced with underlying tensions, the conversation veers towards the task force and Project Starfish. When Auggie discovers that Ratcatcher was the one who shot him, his disgust is palpable. He doesn't hesitate to remind Peacemaker of his perpetual disappointment, even as the latter proudly displays an array of new uniforms and assorted helmets in his closet.
Elsewhere, the rest of the team finds themselves settled in their less-than-stellar Black Ops headquarters—a dilapidated space marred by leaky pipes and an oddly placed piano, fueling their suspicions that Amanda Waller is deliberately sabotaging their efforts. Peacemaker's arrival that night, donned in his full costume, only serves to exacerbate their frustration.
Undaunted, Peacemaker approaches his new mission with utmost seriousness, learning that his first target is a United States Senator. However, he finds himself isolated, struggling to forge connections with his teammates. Among them is Emilia, who merely wishes to savor her beer in peace, away from the unwanted attentions of men. Between the obnoxious patrons at the bar and Peacemaker's persistent advances, she eventually decides to leave, seeking refuge from the unwanted chaos.
Upon returning home, Leota fills Amanda in on the latest developments, revealing a surprising twist: she is, in fact, Amanda's daughter. Clutching a journal, she is entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding it within Amanda's apartment. Meanwhile, Peacemaker shifts his focus to a serene blonde huddled in the corner, ultimately succumbing to a night of passion with her. Little does he realize, she is no ordinary woman; in the throes of intimacy, with both of them barely clad in their underwear, she lunges at him with a blade. Her true identity unfolds—a metahuman possessing phenomenal strength.
Their altercation spills beyond the confines of the apartment, spilling out into the open air. Peacemaker, desperate to subdue her, wields his helmet as a formidable weapon, unleashing a devastating shockwave that reduces her to a grotesque puddle, with mere shreds of her internal organs scattered across the pavement.
