In the ninth episode of "Phantom Lawyer," the story picks up as So-hyun possesses I-rang at the amusement park. So-hyun and her sister Na-hyun have the most fun together, but suddenly, it starts to rain. She remembers I-rang had previously asked her to splash water on his face if he acted strangely, so he knows So-hyun will disappear soon. Unwilling to let go, she hugs her sister, tears streaming down her face. I-rang returns and takes her hand, running through the rain together as he drives her home. On the way, she learns that possession happens when the ghost sees something they really love or extremely hate, and neither I-rang nor So-hyun can control it.

Na-hyun asks I-rang to stay the night. They watch the series that Na-hyun was yet to finish and play Monopoly, one of So-hyun's favorite games. During the game, So-hyun possesses I-rang for a while, stopping him from smacking Na-hyun. Later, they make a bucket list of all the things So-hyun wanted to do and plan to do them the next day before they fall asleep.
Meanwhile, Chairman Yang arrives back from the United States. Do-gyeong arranges a conference meeting with all the staff so that the chairman can address them, but he is more interested in going out for a meal. To Do-gyeong's surprise, Chairman Yang visits Kyung-hwa's restaurant. It turns out that they have known each other since her late husband was a close friend. He apologizes for not being able to help I-rang's father and for I-rang's application to the law firm being rejected.
Upon learning that I-rang is running his own firm, Chairman Yang leaves his card for I-rang to call him anytime he runs into trouble. The next day, So-hyun takes over I-rang's body, accompanying Na-hyun to a palace tour wearing a hanbok, taking a hot air balloon ride, and going camping. The episode concludes with the characters facing new challenges and opportunities as they continue their journey through the mysterious world of possession and law.
As the day winds down, So-hyun suggests they head to a bar. She's heard that adults tell the truth when they're drunk, and she's eager to know what's truly on Na-hyun's mind. Once inside, they order some fried chicken, and So-hyun possesses I-rang once again. She wants to know why Na-hyun no longer keeps in touch with their parents, and she blames it on being busy. Na-hyun excuses herself to head to the bathroom. So-hyun sprinkles water on her face to bring back I-rang. She asks him to keep Na-hyun company and cheer her up while she steps out for a while.
Na-hyun doesn't want So-hyun to go and wonders if there's any way she can stay. I-rang reminds her that without him, she won't be able to see or talk to So-hyun. Na-hyun asks I-rang to let them head home alone for the night. She tries to play games and eat ice cream with So-hyun, but when she sees the ice cream bowl still full, she's overcome with sadness and hides in the shower, crying.
Meanwhile, I-rang finds Kyung-hwa packing a package of premium foods for Chairman Yang. He refuses to accept the apology that comes twenty years too late. He remembers that they abandoned his father and never attended his funeral, so he asks that she never mention him again. Later, he gets home and finds So-hyun is also in his room. She feels sad that Na-hyun is trying so hard to make sure she's not bored. She feels guilty for making her sister live with a ghost and thinks the best option is for her to leave.
Before she departs, she has one more task to accomplish. She yearns for her family to reconcile and devises a plan to send Na-hyun to retrieve her beloved dish from their parents' home. Her mother concurs, and during the trip, she reveals a revelation from the day So-hyun passed away. It emerges that the rift between them stemmed from their mother's implication that she was responsible for So-hyun's demise. Na-hyun has been burdened with guilt, self-blaming, and convinced that she caused So-hyun's death. The mother apologizes deeply for not considering her own grief and for not being there for her. The family reconciles with a group hug, fulfilling So-hyun's last wish.
I-rang is inspired and apologizes to Kyung-hwa for her anger, offering to deliver the gift she prepared for Chairman Yang. The chairman extends him a position at Taebaek, but he declines. On his way out, he encounters Do-gyeong, who continues to display animosity towards him. I-rang reminds him of the pen recording he had sent, asking him not to spend most of his time following him.
The following Saturday, I-rang spends time with Na-hyun's family for her birthday. So-hyun wanted to taste her mother's cooking, a dish made of pork that he is allergic to, but he still agreed to make her happy. He ensures to take medication before the meal.
Na-hyun and So-hyun spend the night together in their old room. Later, Na-hyun receives a message from I-rang, but it's from So-hyun bidding her farewell. The few days spent together were the happiest, but she had to leave. Meanwhile, on the usual rooftop spot, I-rang tries to convince So-hyun to talk to Na-hyun for the last time. She fears that she might not be able to leave when she sees Na-hyun and doesn't want to hurt her anymore by remaining as a ghost.
Before they burn the talisman, Na-hyun arrives at the rooftop too. She is delighted to have made new memories with So-hyun and promises to live a happy life from now on. She lets her go, wishing her happiness and hoping that in the next life, she could be her little sister.
I-rang asks Na-hyun to share an office with him since she hasn't found one yet and to help him with his cases occasionally. The episode concludes with a mysterious figure arriving at I-rang's office.
