Elsewhere, Mazinga is in the process of handing in his equipment when Police Chief Manna reveals that he will be on active duty for New Year's Eve. Manna also confides in Mazinga that the Ministry is poised to drop the case against Franco, prompting Mazinga to reconsider and reclaim his gear.

As Christmas Eve approaches, Pietro makes an unexpected appearance at the precinct's festive gathering. Mazinga is taken aback by Pietro's stoic demeanor and further learns that Anna has hired a caretaker and relocated. Nobili finds a seat alongside Pietro, who offers him some fatherly advice: as the squad leader, it is now his responsibility to maintain the unity of the team. He observes that, aside from their squad, everyone present has little else to cling to. The unit then embarks on a nostalgic journey, reminiscing about their past missions, while Mazinga attempts to mend fences with Pietro. Their favorite song begins to play, but Pietro, unable to reconcile, excuses himself.

In a tender moment, Salvatore confesses his feelings to Marta, who reciprocates with a kiss. Overwhelmed with mutual affection, Salvatore seeks solace in a drink. His eyes then fall upon a drunken Nobili, trying desperately to lift his spirits. Salvatore muses that when one reaches the depths of despair, it feels as though there's no escaping the abyss.

Ultimately, Mazinga takes the intoxicated Nobili back to his place, during which Nobili unburdens himself about Salis and emphasizes that Unit 3's actions in Susa Valley were nothing short of a retaliatory strike. He detests being made to resemble them. Nonetheless, Nobili asserts that a war is brewing—a war between the guilty and the innocent—and, in a fit of anger, casts the bodycam into the flowing river.

The following day, Marta collects Agata and engages in lighthearted chatter with Stefano's new partner, Giulia. Stefano presents Agata with a brand-new phone and volunteers to take her out, considering Marta's obligation on New Year's Eve. Agata's excitement is palpable, and Marta eventually gives in. When alone, Marta inquisitively asks Agata about Giulia's injured arm, and the girl innocently conjectures that Giulia might have tumbled off a kick scooter.

Elsewhere, "Lena" seeks out Salvatore to offer her apologies. She inquiries about his perception of her, initially believing him to be a stereotypical fascist policeman. However, upon getting to know him better, her sentiments soften into pity. He admits to enjoying their conversations, and she reciprocates by suggesting a night together. After their intimate encounter, she inquiries if they are now square, hinting that her motives were to prevent him from reporting her. Yet, he expresses a desire to see her again, and she reluctantly agrees.

Meanwhile, the unit receives another notice from the District Attorney despite the absence of concrete evidence. Marta confides in Mazinga that she is ready to confess, as the pressure becomes unbearable. The unit's anxiety deepens as Manna reveals they will be relieved of duty after New Year's Eve for their own safety.

Post-work, Marta and Agata pick up Giulia. Marta confronts Giulia in front of Agata, seeking to expose Stefano's true nature. Giulia's eyes well up with tears as she reveals that Stefano is abusive, having kicked her when a colleague sent her a kiss emoji. Marta insists that Giulia report him immediately. At home, Agata breaks into tears, and Marta comforts her by cancelling their New Year's Eve visit.

Elsewhere, Giancarlo pleads with Mazinga, his voice thick with desperation, to accompany him to the hospital. Joanna's labor had been fraught with complications, and the thought of raising their newborn daughter alone struck him with a chilling fear. Mazinga, with wisdom etched into his every wrinkle, lent him both counsel and solace.

As the city prepared to bid farewell to the old year and embrace the new, Unit 3 geared up for their nightly patrol. Mazinga's confession to the District Attorney loomed heavy in the air – he admitted his desire for vengeance against Pietro and his order for the baton charge. The identity of Franco's assailant mattered little; Mazinga had given the command and thus bore a heavier burden of responsibility. Marta, her heart heavy with concern, tried to intervene, but Mazinga gently reminded her that Agata needed her now, and that he was the one who had set this chain of events in motion.

Nearby, Emma reached out to Nobili, her voice tinged with hope as she wished him a new year filled with peace. She vowed that Salis must be brought to justice, and Nobili, steadfast and resolute, assured her that justice would be served.

However, the night took a grim turn when Franco succumbed to his injuries. A protester, broadcasting live, incited the crowd to continue their violent rampage, declaring that not one cop should live until they tasted the bitter fruit of their actions. Unit 3 called for backup, but their cries fell on deaf ears; every other unit was engulfed in a storm of protesters' fury. A Molotov cocktail soared through the air, shattering Unit 3's van and sending them into a chaotic retreat.

Nobili's voice cut through the panic, urging his team to brace for impact as they gazed upon the inferno blocking the tunnel's end. Mazinga, Marta, Salvatore, and Nobili ventured cautiously towards the blaze, their footsteps echoing against the tunnel's cold, damp walls.

Suddenly, the van erupted in a fiery ball, and the protesters, fueled by rage, chased the four officers relentlessly. Cornered and outnumbered, they stumbled upon a hidden door, which Salvatore swiftly opened, ushering them inside and securing it just in time. Mazinga, weakened by the ordeal, slumped to the ground, while the others scoured the darkness for an escape route.

They found it, a narrow passageway that led them to the surface, where the sounds of firecrackers greeted the dawn of the new year. Giancarlo, his spirit lifted by the news of Joanna and their child's safety, left Mazinga a voicemail, his voice warm with gratitude and invitation. Yet, as the message ended, Mazinga, battered and bruised, lay unresponsive, his fate hanging in the balance as Public Disorder Episode 6 drew to a harrowing close.
