Reasonable Doubt – Season 3 Episode 5 1

Inside the courtroom, the prosecutor delivers a powerful opening statement, cautioning the jurors not to be swayed by Ozzie's theatrics. Jax, seizing the opportunity, strategically leans into Ozzie's acting background, turning it into a weapon in her own opening statement. Alex begins to sense that he may have underestimated her sharp wits and cunning.

Later, Jax and Daniel convene with Kristin and Ozzie to clarify matters regarding his alibi. Ozzie maintains that he was engrossed in a crime show at the time, and despite Jax's initial apprehension, she sees a chance to use this detail to bolster his alibi. Kristin, ever resourceful, offers to share Ozzie's streaming account credentials with Daniel, and the two head off to the bedroom for further discussion.

Meanwhile, Jax broaches the topic of Monica with Ozzie. The mere mention of Monica's name sends Ozzie into a visible state of agitation, his body trembling. Ozzie reiterates that he was alone on the fateful night Wendy met her end and implores Jax to keep the Monica matter hidden from his parents.

In the bedroom, Daniel observes that Kristin is deliberately avoiding calls and messages from a certain individual. Kristin dismisses him as a pesky acquaintance before leaning in to kiss Daniel. Their intimate moment is abruptly interrupted by Jax's voice calling out for Daniel.

As the trial progresses into the next day, the prosecutor parades a series of witnesses through the courtroom, ranging from police officers to the mortuary attendant and anyone else remotely connected to the case. Jax and Bill, working in tandem, manage to discredit one of the key witnesses. Moreover, they successfully highlight the possibility that the police may have focused solely on Ozzie, neglecting to pursue other potential suspects.

Later, Jax sat down with her mother for a serious talk, cautioning her to cease confiding in Eddie about her personal affairs. Her mother fired back, noting that Lewis hadn't approached Eddie with the respect he deserved. Speaking of Lewis, he secretly reached out to Daniel, seeking his assistance. His aim was to obtain a tracker to keep tabs on Eddie's movements. Daniel agreed to help and facilitated the order.

Meanwhile, the individual Kristin had been trying to avoid finally appeared at her doorstep. It was none other than Alex, demanding money to leave town. He insisted on a hundred grand, and Kristin, taken aback, asked for some time to consider her options.

The next day, the prosecutor contacted Ozzie’s ex-girlfriend. In her testimony, she painted Ozzie as an abusive figure. However, Jax was quick to point out that Ozzie had actually taken out a restraining order against her, and the only time he had physically pushed her away was when he discovered her trespassing in his house. The neighbor also weighed in, revealing that while Wendy and Ozzie often had heated arguments, they always managed to reconcile.

That evening, Jax joined her friends for a girls’ night out. Autumn suggested that Jax reach out to Eddie to gain a deeper understanding of Ozzie’s addiction struggles. Sally, in a moment of vulnerability, admitted that she still held hope for her marriage. Later, Jax apologized for her earlier remarks, vowing to support Sally no matter what decision she made.

After bidding farewell to her friends, Jax made a stop at Eddie’s place to inquire about his addiction. Eddie answered all her questions candidly, expressing his deep regret. He pleaded for another opportunity, and Jax promised to give it some thought. Just then, Lewis arrived, intending to place a tracker on Eddie’s car. He quickly concealed himself and waited for Jax to depart before proceeding with his plan.

The following day, Alex unexpectedly showed up at the prosecutor’s office, proposing a deal. Meanwhile, Krystal encouraged Daniel to take his crush on a date. In court, the prosecutor called Nisha, Wendy’s friend, to the stand. She painted Ozzie as a distant and unpredictable boyfriend.

However, Jax skillfully managed to get Nisha to admit that Wendy often disappeared after major fights with Ozzie. She also highlighted that Nisha had taken over Wendy’s business just three days after her disappearance. Essentially, Jax exposed Nisha's potential motive, suggesting that she stood to gain from Wendy’s untimely demise.

Meanwhile, Lewis begins tailing Eddie with stealthy determination. Later, he meets up with Daniel and seeks his assistance. This time, he urges Daniel to scrutinize Eddie's every move. However, he cautions Daniel to keep the investigation hidden from Jax.

Jax makes an unexpected appearance at Monica's place and confronts her head-on. She exposes Monica's pedophilic tendencies and vows to bring her crimes to light. She bluntly accuses Monica of being responsible for Wendy's death. Monica, in turn, questions Jax's constant delight in covering up murder cases. She probes into what drives Jax to revel in such gruesome and inhumane acts.

After a girls' night out, Shannelle pays a visit to Sally's husband. She pleads with him to either release Sally from their marriage or cease giving her false hope. Chris remains furious about the house situation, yet he's uncertain whether he truly wants to salvage his marriage.

On Chad's end, he seeks counsel from Mike. Mike reveals that Jax's vulnerability lies in her tendency to believe and humanize her clients. Meanwhile, Jax receives the updated witness list and spots Alex's name. Alongside Billy, she confronts Ozzie for his repeated lies about being alone on the night Wendy died.

According to Alex, he and Ozzie were under the influence of drugs. Ozzie persuaded him to drive to the cabin to confront Wendy. He testifies in court that he waited outside while Ozzie and Wendy argued inside the cabin. He also claims to have heard a gunshot and fled the scene in terror. He insists that he was frightened of Ozzie and, with a business to run, couldn't risk going to the police directly.

During the cross-examination, Jax grills Alex about his drug business and the immunity deal he struck. She points out the lack of concrete evidence placing Ozzie in Alex's car on the fateful night. The toll receipt presented by Chad only confirms that Alex was driving the vehicle. Both Alex and Chad are caught off guard by Jax's incisive questioning. Alex admits to selling drugs to Ozzie that night and describes Ozzie as being in and out of consciousness.

Jax thoroughly dismantles Alex's testimony on the witness stand. Chad is furious once again upon realizing that Jax has managed to discredit his key witness.

Elsewhere, Chris invites Sally to his mother's place for Thanksgiving. Sally is disheartened to learn that his gesture is motivated solely by the children. She hands him divorce papers and promises to have her lawyers contact him.

As for Daniel, he takes Krystal's advice to heart and invites Kristine over for a date. He confronts her about Alex, and she denies any knowledge of Alex selling drugs to Ozzie. Daniel believes her, and they share a passionate embrace before tumbling onto the sofa. Naturally, their encounter escalates into a night of intimacy. Consequently, Daniel misses multiple calls from Jax. Jax leaves him a voicemail, sharing her suspicion that Monica is the killer behind Wendy's death. She implores Daniel to investigate Monica's alibi for the night of Wendy's demise.

The screen cuts to a tense scene: Monica stands over a sink, flames licking at a bloodstained shirt as she feeds it into the fire. Just then, her phone rings—it’s Ozzie. His voice crackles with fury as he vents, spitting out words about how furious he is that Alex had the gall to lie under oath. Pausing mid-task, Monica’s hand hovers above the growing fire, her expression unreadable. Ozzie, picking up on her silence, demands to know what she’s up to. Without hesitation, her reply is sharp, loaded with meaning: “I’m keeping you safe.”
