Reasonable Doubt – Season 3 Episode 9 1

Meanwhile, Ozzie calls the sex worker from their previous encounter to apologize and rekindle their connection. At work, Jax notices Bill getting too friendly with Stephen and Vince. She brushes it off and focuses on the case, suggesting putting Ozzie on the stand. However, Bill is against it. On the other hand, Daniel is preoccupied with Kristin's ghosting him, making it difficult for him to concentrate.

At home, Ozzie reflects on 2015 when his dog had to be rushed to the vet after eating chocolate. The doctor spoke privately with Rosie and advised her to have their kids evaluated mentally, expressing concern that Ozzie had intentionally fed the dog chocolate. At the time, Rosie came to Ozzie's defense, and he pretended not to hear their conversation.

Presently, Jax and Bill are at Ozzie's house, determined to convince him to take the stand. Ozzie panics and insists that no one cares about his story. He reveals the self-doubts that have been plaguing him since his nightmares began. He starts to question whether he might have killed Wendy. Jax urges him to stop doubting himself and focus on proving that the prosecution has only circumstantial evidence against him.

Although Ozzie is clearly not ready to take the stand, Jax is determined to get him there. Bill tries to convince her otherwise, but she brushes him off quickly. For the next few days, Jax and Bill prepare Ozzie to testify. However, Ozzie asks for a break when Bill becomes too aggressive. Jax talks to Ozzie and assures him that he needs to tell his story. She claims she believes in his innocence, and the jurors need to see that too.

Ozzie reminisces about 2015, when Monica made a second attempt at his affections. He spurned her advances but was beset by an unwelcome erection. Just as he was indulging in a private moment, a PA barged into his trailer, prompting Ozzie to hurl a trophy in a fit of rage. Rosie stepped in to avert a more serious confrontation.

At Lewis' office, Sam is given a second chance after failing to meet a deadline. The young man employs emotional manipulation, drawing on Lewis's pregnant girlfriend and past miscarriages as an excuse. Later that evening, Lewis returns home to find Jax deep in thought about her case. She confides in him about Bill and her ongoing concerns regarding Ozzie. Lewis listens with empathy, offering her a different perspective to consider.

The next day, Ozzie sits through a therapy session with Autumn. The session reveals that Ozzie's parents kept his conduct disorder diagnosis hidden from him, medicating him without revealing the underlying reason. Ozzie confides that he believes his mother lost faith in his goodness following the unfortunate incident with the dog. He also struggles with the inability to recall what happened on the fateful night of Wendy's death.

Autumn takes the stand in the next hearing, discussing Ozzie's arrested development and conduct disorder. She posits that Ozzie's sexual trauma may have triggered his diagnosis. According to her, while Ozzie intellectually comprehends consequences, he is emotionally unable to process them. This accounts for his temper tantrums when frustrated.

However, she clarifies that his emotional volatility does not imply a propensity for physical violence. Mike attempts to redirect the testimony but fails to make his point clear. Following Autumn's testimony, Jax feels more confident in the case. She believes that Autumn's words offer an explanation for Ozzie's behavior and emotional outbursts. Jax has been contemplating and now believes that Ozzie is not the killer. Krystal echoes her sentiments, stating that she thinks Ozzie is too simple-minded to have committed the crime. Throughout his life, Ozzie has relied on others for basic tasks like laundry. He can't even manage them without help. They argue that if he were guilty, he wouldn't have been able to clean up the murder scene and cover his tracks.

After hearing Krystal out, Jax comes up with an idea. They decide to focus on showcasing Ozzie's incapability rather than his personality traits. However, Bill is not on board with this new angle of their defense strategy.

Feeling the weight of exhaustion, Jax turns to Bill with a frown, inquiring about his predicament. Bill, unable to keep the truth at bay any longer, confesses that his future as a partner depends on their winning the case. Jax realizes that Stephen and Vince have been whispering in Bill's ear, and she challenges him to choose a side. Unveiling her knowledge of Bill's divorce and his involvement with Sally, Jax presses for a definitive answer. Ultimately, Bill sides with Jax, and she asks him to prove his loyalty by action.

As the workday draws to a close, Lewis is confronted by Chelsea outside his office. She warns him of Eddie's nefarious intentions, alleging that he is a con artist who will betray Jax once again. Lewis listens attentively and promises to shield Jax from harm.

Meanwhile, Daniel returns home from work to find a letter from Kristin. In the letter, Kristin reveals the tumultuous state of her family and her inability to mend their rift. She asks for forgiveness and ends with a passionate confession of love. Daniel is swift to act, determined to find Kristin. The scene shifts as Kristin discards her phone card and slips into a car, driving away into the night.

The next day, Ozzie takes the stand, noticing that his mother and sister are absent. He reflects on April 2015, a few months after the dog incident. His mother had been administering Adderall pills to keep him focused, even though Ozzie was long past the thrill of celebrity status. Despite trying to convince her of his innocence in the dog's death, Ozzie senses her disbelief deep within her demeanor.

On the stand, Jax skillfully exposes Ozzie's incapability to perform even basic tasks, let alone a murder and its cover-up. She gives Ozzie a chance to explain the gun's presence in his cabin and his drug-induced state on Wendy's death night. Ozzie admits to his guilt over betraying Wendy's trust and relapsing, but denies any involvement in her death.

Mike attempts to trip Ozzie up during cross-examination, but it backfires as Ozzie points out that Alex would have needed directions to the location, and Ozzie was too inebriated and unfamiliar with the area to have committed the crime. By the end of the cross-examination, even Mike is uncertain about Ozzie's capability to have pulled off the crime.

After the hearing, Bill, Stephen, and Vince gather for drinks, displeased that Bill has not kept them updated on Jax's progress. Bill turns the tables, revealing his divorce and hatching a new plan for everyone to achieve their goals.

That evening, Stephen and Vince attempt to persuade Jax to let Bill deliver the closing statement. As expected, Jax puts them in their place and demands respect for her name. She also asks them to deliver a warning to Bill on her behalf.

The following morning, both Jax and Mike deliver strong closing statements. Jax focuses on the prosecution's weak case and Ozzie's childhood trauma, raising questions that the prosecution and police had overlooked. Meanwhile, Mike plays the card of justice. After their statements, the jury retires to deliberate their verdict.

Elsewhere in the narrative, Rosie embarked on a sentimental journey, cleaning Ozzie's once-vibrant childhood room, only to uncover a box tucked beneath his bed. Within the box, she stumbled upon a heartfelt letter he had penned to his beloved dog upon its demise. This discovery served as a revelation, illuminating Ozzie's innocence, and Rosie set out to his abode in a bid to atone for her relentless disbelief and betrayal.

Meanwhile, Daniel's quest for answers finally led him to Kristin, who was found at the cabin, wielding a gun and clutching a phone. Her tears flowed freely, revealing a heart burdened by jealousy and insecurity—she had taken the life of the dog because Ozzie's love for it surpassed her own.

The scene shifted to Bill, speaking on the phone with his divorce attorney, his frustration mounting as his ex-wife demanded more. However, Jax's abrupt interruption brought news of the jury's verdict.

Returning to the cabin, Daniel was left reeling by Kristin's confession. The episode ended with him confronting her directly, asking if she had taken Wendy's life.
