Sins of Kujo – Season 1 Episode 2 1

Kujo, the prosecutor's son, is present at the trial. He is distraught, ranting to his older brother that the defendant is not guilty due to insanity and should have received life imprisonment instead. He berates his father and the public opinion for swaying the trial with emotions. A young Karasuma overhears this.

Sogabe, a young boy, is hounded by the cops until Kujo comes to his rescue. They regroup at the office, and we see that Sogabe has an insulting tattoo on his arm. He is slow on the uptake, easily overwhelmed, and quite shifty. The drug dealer calls and threatens him with another shameful tattoo unless he finishes the deliveries. He runs off but forgets the weed at Kujo's.

Karasuma recognizes the boy and is upset that Kanemoto, an aspiring wrestler and son of a Yakuza, is using him again. He wants to save him, but Kujo finds it arrogant, commenting that lawyers can't save everyone. It's revealed that Kanemoto's father forced Sogabe's father to be his underling and would exploit him. Sogabe tried to save his dad and ended up becoming Kanemoto's underling. At present, Kanemoto beats up Sogabe for forgetting the drugs.

Karasuma reveals that Sogabe was bullied horribly in prison. He wonders why Sogabe is back with Kanemoto and risking another arrest. The situation is tense and filled with tension as each character struggles with their own motivations and emotions.

It abruptly cuts to Kanemoto, who suddenly apologizes profusely. He then respectfully asks if they can rent Sogabe's apartment as they need a trap house to cut and bag cocaine. To their surprise, Sogabe smiles and agrees.

When Sogabe returns to take the bag, Karasuma bluntly asks if he is being used. This insults Sogabe, who believes the lawyers are looking down on him for his supposed stupidity. From his reaction, Kujo figures out why Sogabe sticks around. The scene then cuts to rival thugs bullying Sogabe. Kanemoto and his men show up and beat up the bullies, much to Sogabe's delight that Kanemoto has his back. However, when Kanemoto's men accidentally kill one of the rival bullies, Kanemoto assures them that Sogabe can just take the fall if they are caught.

Karasuma meets with Yakushimae, who had helped Sogabe get a place and job after his discharge. But he disappeared after a month and ghosted his parents. While Sogabe makes his deliveries, he reasons with himself. He feels bad about robbing innocent people, but with drugs, he can make the drug addicts happy. Elsewhere, Kujo is watching a video of his daughter, Rino. She thanks him for a birthday gift. Right then, Mibu calls with the news that Kanemoto and Sogabe have been arrested after a raid at Sogabe's apartment.

Karasuma and Kujo clash as the former suggests that Sogabe testify against Kanemoto in exchange for protection. However, Kujo orders Sogabe to take the fall. Karasuma is upset but Sogabe actually agrees. He reveals that even his mother used to be embarrassed by him but this way, he can be of use.

Kujo is also defending Kanemoto, which is actually a conflict of interest. But this time, he orders Kanemoto to stay quiet and note down everything that is asked of him. The cops don't have much evidence and he will likely be released in 20 days. Karasuma looks down on the suddenly docile Kanemoto. The thug throws a tantrum and even asks Kujo to fire him but to no avail.

Like Karasuma, Yakushimae is upset with Kujo but he finally reveals his plan. No matter what, Sogabe will go to prison for possession. If he rats Kanemoto out, he will have to deal with the thug's anger as well. What they can do is convince the court that it was possession for personal use which will reduce his sentence to possibly 1.5 years. Even then, Yakushimae calls him out for exploiting Sogabe instead of helping him break the vicious cycle. As for Karasuma, he gets Kujo's plan but he will still do his own thing to save Sogabe. Mibu asks for an update and is impressed with Kujo's handling of the situation.

Meanwhile, Karasuma tracks down Sogabe's father and asks him to help Sogabe escape Kanemoto's clutches. The father reluctantly agrees to help his son but remains unsure of the best course of action.
