Episode 1 of Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 commences on January 10th, 1985, deep within the heart of Hawkins, Indiana. A scientist, enveloped in the depths of his lab, burns the remnants of a peculiar Upside Down experiment. However, the process inadvertently releases some particles, and it seems to create something… new. Protruding out of the snow, it grabs Dustin’s bullies, Charlie and Jeff, dragging them down to the depths of the frozen landscape.

Meanwhile, Mike packs his bags and prepares to leave with the others. We’re post-season 2 of Stranger Things, and while everyone heads out to meet up, Hopper reminds El of the rules and that she needs to be cautious. Mike shows up at the cabin to pick El up, and the group rides to school together. However, El doesn’t go in, and she eventually rides her bike back home.
When Will accidentally spills a drink on a bully, a new kid shows up and helps him. She doesn’t say much, but the kids seem to like her. While Mr. Clarke heads off for a work vacation, the kids come up with a new idea to make some quick cash. Given the snowstorm that’s blanketed Hawkins, the kids want to use El’s powers to quickly shovel snow off driveways.
Mike gets cold feet though and talks about Hopper’s threats about putting El in unnecessary danger. Eventually, they wind up having a bit of a snowball fight to break the ice (no pun intended). Unfortunately, a new threat lurks under the snow and takes the local snow-plow maestro, Mr. Plow.
El uses her powers and manages to help Dustin, but the group is in a bit of a bind. They decide to head off and find this “snow shark,” and it doesn’t take long before it hones in on the new kid.
The narrative is enhanced with vivid descriptions and more descriptive language to bring the scene to life and make it more engaging for the reader. The dialogue remains clear and concise while also being more expressive.
