Sugar – Season 1 Episode 2 1

Back in the solitude of his hotel room, Sugar discovers that David and Kenny have breached his privacy, sneaking in to plant their own spy gadgets. He remains unruffled, yet aware that David should steer clear of his past. Later, Sugar engages with Olivia's friends, unearthing startling revelations about her past as a heavy drug user, devoid of a stable boyfriend. But she had turned her life around for the better.

Elsewhere, Bernie and a cluster of film staff whisper about a hush-hush incident involving David. Apparently, there were eight victims, and they're struggling to silence the eighth one.

Sugar's path crosses with Ruby, and he shares his conversation with Jonathan. The man's callous attitude towards his own family members shocks Sugar. He reveals the tale of Carmen Vasquez, a woman recently slain. Her murderer, Clifford Carter, is the man hiding in Olivia's trunk. Why does this matter? Because Olivia's car was parked at Carmen's house the fateful night she was killed.

In the present, Ruby urges Sugar to focus on their lunch and leave the case behind for a moment. As he departs, Ruby notices a tremor in his hand, a telltale sign of his inner turmoil.

Sugar heads to meet Melanie, who has summoned him. She leads him to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, seemingly grateful for his kindness the night before. As they make their way to her place, it becomes apparent that Melanie knows his true identity as a Private Investigator. He inquisitively asks why Olivia frequented Melanie's place every night the week before her disappearance, seeking clues to the enigma surrounding Olivia's fate.

He presents her with a photograph of Clifford, yet she professes ignorance of him. Sugar senses she's withholding information, but she insists he vacate the premises. As he exits, Sugar telephones Charlie, revealing Melanie's potential lead to Olivia.

Later, Sugar finds himself engrossed in a film at the theater. But upon exiting, he notices a vehicle trailing him. On the journey home, his attention is captured by Wiley, Carl's faithful canine companion, wandering aimlessly. Strangely, Carl himself is nowhere to be found. Sugar tracks the phone he had given Carl and pursues it to a dingy motel. Inside, he discovers Carl's lifeless body sprawled across a bed, surrounded by a scattering of drugs. Suddenly, another man emerges from the bathroom, prompting Sugar to react instinctively, though he manages to restrain himself.

The sight of Carl's lifeless body fills Sugar with rage. Yet, before departing, he takes pity on Wiley and allows the forlorn dog to accompany him. Seeking answers, Sugar visits Ruby and inquiries about the mysterious grey car that has been tailing him. She confesses ignorance, but later, she whispers on the phone to someone else about the perplexing situation.

Returning to Olivia's car to dispose of the body, Sugar is startled to find it missing. Instead, a single grey hair lies as a macabre clue. Meanwhile, David and Kenny relay to Bernie their unsuccessful search at Sugar's house.

At home, Sugar pores over the investigation, realizing he has become deeply entangled in matters that are not his concern. Olivia's resemblance to his sister, Djen, haunts him, drawing him further into this tangled web.

Elsewhere, Teresa's peaceful home is invaded by a gang of thugs led by a man searching for Clifford. They believe Clifford had been romantically involved with Teresa's sister, Carmen. Shockingly, Clifford's phone contains a picture of Melanie, whom Teresa identifies at the end of Sugar's second episode, adding yet another layer of complexity to this already convoluted narrative.
