Sugar – Season 1 Episode 8 1

Elsewhere, Miller's peaceful drive is abruptly interrupted when a traffic police officer pulls him over. After a cursory check of his license, the officer suddenly draws her weapon and fatally shoots him, calmly reporting the incident over the radio.

Sugar, meanwhile, heads to Ruby's place, where the atmosphere is tense with the urgency of an impending departure. Inside, Henry joins them, and the trio discusses the bittersweetness of leaving everything behind. Henry presents Sugar with a CD player, a gift he had requested, and a nagging feeling that something about the case still isn't quite right.

As he drives, Sugar inserts the stolen CD into the player and listens intently. Ryan's voice fills the car, his confession chilling as he speaks about killing a woman with a hammer. Sugar's heart heavy, he arrives at the Siegel house. Offering Margit his condolences for the loss of David, he's soon greeted by Jonathan, who extends a surprising offer - a full-time position as head of security. Sugar politely declines, his mind still reeling from the revelations of the CD.

The conversation turns to Olivia, and Jonathan reveals that she hasn't spoken a word about what happened. He thanks Sugar profusely, and in a moment of revelation, Sugar hands Jonathan compromising photos of Rachel, insinuating that Jonathan was the one who took them. Jonathan's confession is halting but honest - he admits to an affair with Rachel, who reminded him so much of his wife, Lorraine. Until she became pregnant. The truth hangs heavy in the air, and though Jonathan doesn't quite confess, it seems all but certain that Olivia is his daughter.

Sugar slips back into his car, the metal door shutting with a decisive clang. His gaze drifts towards Olivia, and suddenly, he's transported back to another world, where he and his sister existed in their extraterrestrial forms. With a shake of his head, he snaps back to reality and sets his course to rendezvous with Ruby and the others, Ryan's CD still spinning in the stereo.

As he departs, he entrusts his loyal canine companion to Melanie's care. She extends a friendly invitation for a farewell drink, and over their glasses, the conversation turns to Sugar's missing sister. Melanie's inquiries prompt a somber revelation from Sugar; his sister was abducted long ago, and they've never been able to track her down.

After a moment of silent reflection, Sugar reaches out, offering his hands to Melanie. She hesitantly takes them, and instantly, Sugar's eyes transform into a deep, cobalt blue. Melanie's eyes well up with tears, and Sugar offers a soft smile, grateful that he's shown her a glimpse of his true self, even if it wasn't meant to be revealed.

Ruby's urgent call interrupts the moment, her voice tense as she warns Sugar that humans are on their trail, determined to uncover their secret pact with the politician. Sugar assures her he's on his way, the CD still playing in the background. Suddenly, something in Ryan's words causes him to slam on the brakes, reversing the car's direction.

With the Siegel's permission, Sugar seeks out Olivia, his questions urgent. He asks if Ryan had any accomplices, and Olivia confirms his suspicions. She describes a mysterious figure, silent and faceless, but constantly scribbling in a notepad. As Sugar drives back, a realization dawns; the accomplice is none other than Henry, the man always seen jotting down notes in his little black book.

Sugar returns to the familiar abode where he had first encountered Henry, but the place stands desolate and abandoned. Suddenly, the phone shrills, revealing Henry's voice on the other end. Henry knows that Sugar has discovered the truth, and Sugar accuses him of merely standing by and watching. Henry justifies his actions as observation and learning, claiming that he belongs in this chaos of human existence. Sugar counters, insisting that there is more to humanity than meets the eye.

Henry declares that he's not returning and leaves a trail of rose petals for Sugar before hanging up. Curious, Sugar follows the petals to a wardrobe, where he stumbles upon a robe belonging to his sister, Djen. It dawns on him that Henry has abducted his sister.

Sugar wonders if his newfound ability to feel hurt, touch, taste, and more has made him more human. His thoughts are interrupted by the serene sight of a beach, where a girl warns him about the sharks lurking in the water. It is here that Sugar meets Ruby, who reveals that she knew about Henry and Ryan but was unaware of Djen's disappearance.

Ruby tries to persuade him to return home, but Sugar is adamant about staying. He confesses that he likes humans and feels a strange kinship with them. As he drives back, his eyes catch a glimpse of their spaceship heading homeward. He muses about the cliched endings of movies before driving off into the setting sun, marking the end of Sugar's eighth episode on an enigmatic and thought-provoking note.
