Sullivan’s Crossing – Season 2 Episode 4 1

Harry "Sully" Sullivan (Scott Patterson)'s mind drifts back to the harrowing moment when he spotted Lola Gunderson (Amalia Williamson) lying prone after an accidental collision. In a haze of intoxication, he notified the police, unaware that his state would go unnoticed. The incident was erroneously labeled a hit-and-run. Confessing to Frank Cranebear (Tom Jackson), Sully reveals his attempts to make amends. Frank, had he known, assures he would have stood by Sully's side unwaveringly.

Cal informs Rafe Vadas (Dakota Taylor) of Maggie's safety, but her relief is tempered by the news that Pete (Joel Thomas Hynes), battling PTSD, remains missing. Undeterred, Rafe persists in his search for Pete. Meanwhile, Sydney Shandon (Lindura) endeavors to soothe Finn Shandon (Zayn Maloney), whose eyes reflect a childlike fear of the tempest. Rob Shandon's (Reid Price) return from fetching a propane tank prompts Finn to inquire if Rob is aware of Sydney's storm phobia, mirroring his own. Rob reminisces about a youthful Sydney seeking refuge in a closet during a storm, where he sang and recounted tales to ease her fright. Finn's curiosity leads him to ask why Sydney chose to be with Rob after Sarah's passing.

Maggie confides in Cal about Pete's PTSD episode, eliciting a somber nod from Cal, who shares a similar story about his brother's silence surrounding his wartime experiences. Maggie expresses her wish that Pete wasn't alone, subsequently joining Cal by the fire, wrapped in a blanket. As Cal tends to a cut on her leg, Maggie admits to being unfamiliar with receiving care. Cal gently suggests it's time for that to change.

Rafe's voice interrupts their moment, announcing he's found Pete. Back at the outpost, he informs Sydney and Edna Cranebear (Andrea Menard) that while Maggie has suffered a concussion, she remains alert. Edna scolds Maggie for venturing out in the storm, to which Pete defends, saying she was aiding him in his search for Molly. Elsewhere, Connie Boyle (Lauren Hammersley) alerts Rafe to sightings of Frank's truck miles away, sparking concern for Rafe's safety. Sydney, offering a kiss for luck, sends him forth into the stormy night with heartfelt wishes.

Elsewhere, John (Sebastien Labelle) attempts to persuade Ellis (Bri Neal) to rest, suggesting her discomfort might be stress-induced Braxton Hicks contractions. His declaration of love warms her heart. Meanwhile, Cal keeps Maggie awake with a captivating game of chess, their bond growing amidst the storm's chaos. At the outpost, Pete confides in Rob about his Afghanistan service, while Finn invites him to a nostalgic game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Pete's mind drifts to playing the same game with his daughter, prompting Finn to inquire about their separation. Pete's reply hints at strained attempts to reconnect with his daughter and her mother.

Maggie confides in Cal, revealing that Walter believed chess would cultivate her ability to stay composed amidst adversity. She leans towards exercising control over her destiny rather than gambling on uncertainty. Cal counters by asserting that life's essence lies in embracing risks. Shifting scenes, Rob reminisces about Sydney's arrival in Nova Scotia to nurture him and Finn following Sarah's demise, a distraction that eased her sorrow. However, her departure after hiring Clover, blamed on Finn's emotional call for his mother, hints at a deeper disconnection she fears fostering. Rob theorizes that Finn's resemblance to Sarah could be the underlying factor.

Sully ponders Lola's reaction upon discovering the person she trusts implicitly was the cause of her mishap. A volunteer, Kyle Gillis, arrives timely to resuscitate Frank's truck with a battery boost, while Frank urges Sully to confront his demons. Elsewhere, Cal boasts about keeping Maggie awake through the night post her accident, emphasizing his commitment to justice as his motive for becoming a lawyer. Maggie inquiries about his lack of a roadmap, but Cal reassures her that foreseeing the next step suffices in navigating life's journey. Their lips meet, coinciding with the restoration of power. Rafe's update informs them of Frank and Sully's whereabouts.

Ellis' waters break, signaling the impending birth. Meanwhile, Pete reconnects with Molly and shares a photo of his daughter, Brooke, prompting Cal to urge him towards treatment to salvage his relationship with her. Pete philosophizes about life's unhappy endings, to which Cal advises self-care before bidding farewell.

Sydney's relief is palpable upon seeing Maggie, but Rob declines her offer to care for Finn, desiring bonding time. Maggie clarifies there's nothing romantic between her and Cal. Shortly thereafter, Cal updates Maggie on Pete's departure, amidst Lola's excited arrival with Ellis. The group rallies to prepare for Ellis' delivery, with Edna promptly calling Connie for an ambulance. Maggie, after sanitizing her hands, examines Ellis and finds her cervix fully dilated. Ellis pushes diligently, but Maggie halts her, noting the umbilical cord wrapped around the baby's neck. Enlisting Cal's assistance, they disentangle the cord. With the obstacle cleared, Ellis pushes once more, delivering her son into the world. Maggie watches as Cal gently cleans the newborn and places him in Ellis' arms. Paramedics swiftly arrive to attend to the mother and child.

Frank and Sully return to the outpost, only to be met with Edna's sharp rebuke. Sully, contrite, offers an immediate apology, haunted by his decision to leave the hospital. Maggie gently informs him that his fears of Alzheimer's are unfounded. Elsewhere, Rafe stumbles wearily into his home, where Sydney confesses her admiration for his bravery in venturing into the storm to rescue Maggie. He brushes it off as part of the job, but she finds his actions incredibly alluring, unbuttoning his shirt and drawing him into a passionate kiss.

As Sully undergoes treatment for his vitamin deficiency, he seeks reassurance from Maggie, asking if she is absolutely certain about his Alzheimer's-free status. She confirms it, explaining that his condition stems from alcohol abuse. She apologizes for neglecting to consider how their abrupt departure might have affected him. He reassures her that his care for her never waned. She proposes a fresh start for them.

In a phone conversation, Maggie informs Andrew Matthews that she won't be returning home anytime soon. He inquires about her interest in the job, but she finds herself uncertain of her desires. Sydney confesses to Maggie about her intimate encounter with Rafe, questioning whether it was a mistake, given her intent to rejoin her old agency in New York. Maggie urges her to come clean with Rafe, reminding her that she hasn't yet disclosed the pregnancy to Andrew. Maggie believes there's no future with Cal due to her pregnancy with Andrew's child. Sydney suggests that Cal might accept the situation. Later, Maggie invites Cal to join her for dinner.

With growing trepidation, Sully prepares to confess to Lola that he was responsible for her accident. But before he can speak, she breaks into tears, fearing she had lost him forever. She ponders what life would be like without him. During dinner, Cal's attempt to crack open a lobster goes awry, splattering juice on his face. Maggie, using a napkin, gently wipes it away. He invites her to dance, and though hesitant at first, realizing they will be the sole couple on the floor, she reluctantly agrees. As they sway to the music, she asks if he desires children. He responds with a resounding no. She mentions that Sully needs his next treatment session.

Elsewhere, Sully tells Frank that he attempted to confess to Lola but felt it wasn't the opportune moment. He expresses gratitude to Edna for managing the outpost in his absence, to which she replies that it's their home too. As Sully and Maggie prepare to leave, Frank shows them a newspaper advertisement announcing the upcoming auction of Sullivan's Crossing Campground. Edna and Maggie are taken aback by the news. The episode concludes on this surprising revelation.
