The tense Episode 3 opens with a somber conversation between Maeve and Robbie, as she is now privy to all the secrets. She confronts him, demanding to know why he would risk their lives in such a reckless manner. Robbie reveals his motive: to seek revenge on Jayson and the Dark Hearts for their role in Billy's demise. He pleads with Maeve for a few days to acquire the necessary funds from the drug trade.
At the task force, the cops unfurl their knowledge of Peaches and the Dark Hearts' informant, while Jayson and Perry seek out Freddy Friar for assistance in apprehending the thieves. Freddy agrees to help, but on the condition of a 50% cut of the wholesale drugs.
Robbie and Cliff finally meet their informant, who stuns them with a twist: it's Eryn, Jayson's former girlfriend and Billy's lover. Eryn, like Robbie, bears a grudge against Jayson and warns them against moving the goods with Freddy's help, as it would be too risky. But Cliff offers an alternative, knowing someone who can lend a hand.
The Feds make a startling discovery that the guns used in the killings match those used during a clash between the Dark Hearts and their rival gang, the Vipers. This revelation suggests that one of the Dark Hearts members is responsible for the weapons. Tom and Anthony share this intel with Perry and Jayson, urgently requesting their help in locating Sam swiftly. However, the gang members are uncooperative.
Aleah and Lizzie visit the construction site where Peaches once worked, speaking to his colleagues. Meanwhile, Maeve coaches Sam on swimming skills, while Emily pays a visit to Ethan in prison.
Robbie and Cliff meet Ray, a recently released convict with connections in the drug world. Ray introduces them to Lee Whitehead, a man who knows the Columbians. With the Dark Hearts having kept the Columbians out of the trade for some time, they would eagerly jump at the chance to acquire twelve kilos of drugs. Ray promises to arrange a meeting.
Denny, a colleague from Peaches' workplace, requests a meeting with Elizabeth and Aleah. He divulges that Peaches mentioned working with Cliff Broward. The detectives hustle off to inform Tom and Anthony of their discovery, leading them all to Cliff's residence where the door appears to have been violently breached.
As they step into the house, they are met with a confrontation; two masked intruders stand before them. Tom stumbles down the stairs, landing with a thud and suffering a gash on his forehead. One of them is apprehended, revealing his identity to be none other than Shelley, Ray's wife. The other flees, pursued by Lizzie with Anthony in hot pursuit. She and Anthony bring him down, revealing the perpetrator to be none other than Ray himself.
At the hospital, Tom refuses further medical attention and instead heads back to the police station to confront Ray and Shelley. Aleah uses her own experience with domestic abuse to try and elicit a confession from Shelley. Eventually, she relents and tells Aleah about Cliff's visit. This confession forces Ray into a corner, and he tells the cops what he knows. Tom and Anthony use his phone to text Cliff, arranging a meeting with him in a park the following evening. Robbie and Cliff receive the message and decide to reconnoiter the park beforehand.
That night, Lizzie and Anthony go out for drinks. Lizzie confides in him that she froze when Ray attacked Tom. Later, some of her former cop colleagues enter the bar and urge Lizzie to stay on the task force and not return. In response, Anthony gives a heartfelt toast to Lizzie in front of everyone.
Aleah drives Tom home and shares his condition with Sara. After she leaves, Sara expresses her worry that Tom may face the same fate as their mother if Ethan returns home. Tom admits that he does not want Ethan back and still feels anger simmering within him. Unaware of their conversation, Emily overhears everything. A flashback shows us the day Tom and his wife Susan welcomed Ethan and Emily into their home with open arms.
In the present, Joe meets Tom again and provides him with more information on Billy. He also reveals that a member of Dark Hearts was spying on Cliff's house after the task force arrived. He claims that Dark Hearts is gaining information from someone within the task force's ranks.
