In the fourth episode of Task, Tom's mind is consumed by the possibility of an informant within his own team, as the task force comes together with Anthony's former team to discuss the sting operation to take down Cliff. Remember from the previous episode, Tom's team used Ray's phone to set up a meeting between Cliff and a drug dealer – in reality, Anthony posing as one – at a nearby park at 11 pm. As they brief the other officers who will surround the park, the tension is palpable.

Task – Season 1 Episode 4 1

In therapy, Emily opens up about overhearing Tom, expressing how she feels obligated to be grateful towards her adoptive family, rather than feeling normal emotions like anger and annoyance. Later, Tom meets with Kathleen and reveals the informant in his task force to her. She dismisses the idea as unlikely, urging him to focus on the operation at hand. As he leaves, Kathleen makes a phone call, hinting at potential trouble ahead – could she be the informant?

Meanwhile, Perry receives a visit from his boss, Vincent, who informs him that the Mother Club members want Jayson out of the Dark Hearts. Perry then speaks with Shane, a member of the Dark Hearts who seems agitated. Shane confesses to being troubled by Billy's death, recounting how Jayson found out about Billy's affair with Eryn and unleashed a storm of violence upon him. Jayson then lied to Perry, telling him Billy was stealing from the gang. Enraged by the lie, Perry punches Jayson in the face. But Jayson has good news: their informant has tipped them off about Cliff's meeting at the park that night.

A flashback shows Robbie, Billy, and their families having a relaxing time by a lake. Robbie and his wife are grappling with marital issues while Billy is dating Eryn, who joins them for the occasion. Meanwhile, Robbie, Cliff, and Sam are now by the lake, setting up a meeting with Bartosz, an acquaintance whose trucking business can facilitate their escape to Canada after they receive the money from the drug deal. As Robbie goes inside to meet Bartosz, Cliff drowses off in the car while Sam goes out to release a fish he caught earlier in the lake. Unfortunately, a passerby spots Sam alone and starts inquiring about his parents. Robbie arrives in time to whisk him away but when the man tries to take a picture, Robbie punches him until Cliff intervenes.

At home, Robbie unveiled his plan to Maeve: to escape to Canada and for her and the children to join them later. Maeve firmly refused, insisting that she wouldn't ruin the kids' lives by embarking on such a journey. Later that day, Robbie attempted to engage in a father-daughter dance with Harper in their living room, claiming they needed to practice for the school event. Though she sensed something was off, he reassured her not to fear. She then revealed that she hadn't purchased tickets for the dance, thinking he wouldn't want to attend.

Perry unexpectedly appeared at Eryn's place and questioned her about her involvement in the robberies. She denied it, and he seemed to accept her lie at face value. As night fell, the police swarmed the park, and we witnessed Robbie and Cliff taking two cars. Robbie parked near a diner while Cliff drove ahead. The task force members saw a white car entering the park and surrounded it, only for it to be an ordinary couple searching for their dog. Cliff, on the other hand, was in a completely different location! He was waiting on the side of a deserted road for Ray's contact, texting an unknown number that Jayson read on his screen. He and Perry then drove their car straight into Cliff's, forcing him off the road. Robbie realized something was wrong but by the time he reached the scene, Cliff was nowhere to be seen.

After the failed mission, Lizzie and Anthony went out drinking and ultimately kissed on the dance floor. They returned to Lizzie's place but Anthony stopped when he realized they were on the bed she shared with her ex-husband. He said he wanted to be with her but preferably somewhere else. Meanwhile, at Tom's place, a heavily intoxicated Emily returned home from a house party. She told Tom she had heard everything he said the night before. He tried to speak to her but she slammed her door in his face.

In contrast, Cliff was now being tortured and interrogated by the Dark Hearts. Despite their harsh questioning, he refused to give up Robbie, ultimately dying at Jayson's hand. At the same time, Perry realized that the gun they found in Cliff's car belonged to Billy. Aleah called Tom and instructed him to check his email. The news of Robbie's assault had reached the task force through their tip line, and they had now received a photo taken by the stranger on Robbie's phone. Robbie's face was covered in the image, but it clearly showed Sam.
