In the opening of Episode 2 of Tell Me Lies Season 3, Lucy's desperation to reach Stephen is palpable as she leaves him a message, only to have him suddenly appear at her doorstep. Her nervousness is met with Stephen's insistence that she relax and they head to a karaoke club, where Bree, Pippa, and Wrigley are already gathered.

At the club, Wrigley's inquiry about Evan sets off a chain of events that quickly escalate. Stephen's rude comments towards Lucy are ignored, but his behavior towards her becomes increasingly uncomfortable. Pippa's suggestion that Wrigley be looked out for in class sparks an argument between the two, leaving the room filled with tension.
Meanwhile, Bree's keen eye notices a girl sitting alone at the club - Amanda, a freshman who had left Oliver's cabin. Bree follows her into the restroom and strikes up a conversation. Amanda invites Bree to join her and her friends for drinks, and the two quickly bond over their shared struggles with body image.
Back at the club, Lucy invites Stephen to join her on stage, but Evan unexpectedly shows up with Molly in tow. Bree introduces Amanda to her friends and gives her a pep talk about her insecurities. The two take a photo together for Amanda to send to her boyfriend, who attends a different college.
Stephen reluctantly agrees to perform a song with Lucy but leaves her alone on stage. The atmosphere in the club becomes awkward and tense as Lucy sings by herself. Bree joins her on stage, and the two have fun together, much to Stephen's dismay.
After the performance, Lucy confronts Stephen for embarrassing her. He storms off to his dorm room, leaving Lucy in pursuit. Stephen tells Lucy that he still can't get over her affair with Evan. Lucy admits that she's worried about losing Bree and hopes that Stephen never tells her the truth. Stephen is appalled by her comment and storms off to his dorm room.
That night, Bree meets Lucy in her dorm room and brings up Amanda's presence at Oliver's office earlier. Bree empathizes with Amanda and understands how lonely and bored she must feel. The conversation between the two is filled with warmth and understanding, as they both seek to connect with someone who can relate to their experiences.
Lucy apologizes to Bree for not being there for her, yet suddenly finds herself enveloped in a panic attack. Pippa arrives, sharing her own struggles with Wrigley, but her attention is swiftly drawn to Lucy's condition. She promptly calls Alex and asks him to bring something that could help calm her down. Alex arrives with medication, which Lucy takes as he helps her steady herself. After Alex leaves, Bree, curious and yearning for a connection, secretly takes his number from Pippa's phone and reaches out to him.
The next day, Evan bumps into Bree on campus and tries to engage in conversation. But when she spots Oliver nearby, she panics. Evan becomes suspicious of the professor and confronts him about the affair. Oliver tries to diffuse the situation and talks to Evan about his intentions of getting back together with Bree.
Later, Bree meets Alex for coffee and they catch up, reminiscing about their time together in foster care. Alex informs Bree that he is studying for a master's degree in Psychology, and they briefly discuss Bree's mother.
That day, Bree shares her past connection with Alex with Lucy, who recalls how Alex once protected her from her abuser at the foster home. Later, Stephen calls Lucy to his room for a conversation. Bree questions whether Lucy deserves to be disrespected by Stephen yet again. Lucy tries to defend him in front of Bree before leaving. In Stephen's room, they discuss how they keep falling back into old habits. Stephen tells Lucy that he cannot move past the affair and reminds her that he took the fall for writing the letter to protect her.
Stephen asks Lucy to confess the affair to Bree, but Lucy refuses to choose him over her friendship with Bree. She blames Stephen for how he treated her and for leaving her. Stephen threatens to tell Bree the truth himself, but Lucy challenges him and walks away, leaving him alone.
Stephen later shows up at Evan's room and lashes out at him. He tells Evan about his break-up with Lucy and admits that learning about the affair caused him more damage than he expected. The following morning, Lucy tells her friends about the break-up, and they try to cheer her up. Lucy is determined to move on from Stephen without letting him ruin her academic growth.
Meanwhile, Diana sends a text to Pippa, and the two engage in a conversation about Drew and Wrigley. Diana confesses her feelings for Pippa, and soon, the two find themselves lost in a passionate kiss. Elsewhere, Bree meets Amanda once again and listens intently as she talks about her own breakup. Amanda reveals that she told her boyfriend she was having an affair with an older, married man. Bree is shocked when she realizes that Amanda was referring to Oliver. Amanda explains that the "older guy" approached her at the same Christmas party where he hooked up with Bree. Later that day, Bree sits in class with Wrigley, visibly shaken by Amanda's revelation. During a photography assignment, Wrigley helps Bree relax and momentarily distracts her from her thoughts. That night, Stephen wakes up in Evan's apartment, still seething with anger and struggling to control his rage. At the same time, Lucy lies awake, unable to sleep. She steps outside for a smoke and notices Chris nearby as the episode comes to an end.
