As the sun sets on Angel's Ridge, Constance Van Ness rides her horse into town, her favorite son Garrett by her side. Along for the ride is Willem, the family's black sheep, and her daughter Trisha. Their destination: a meeting with the mayor to discuss Constance's dwindling mining business. She's worried that her investors will pull out if no action is taken soon.

To save her venture, Constance has offered to buy the silver-rich land in the Hollows, but the four families there have turned her down. She can no longer afford to wait for them to change their minds, so she resorts to threatening the mayor to press on with her plans for the Hollow.
That night, a group of men launch an attack on the Abandons' ranch, setting fire to the land and releasing the cows. Fiona and her children rush to save the animals before they fall off a ridge. Constance, Willem, and Garrett watch the chaos from a distance, satisfied with their sabotage.
Back at the Abandons', some of their cattle are lost, and they are convinced that Constance is behind the attack. She's been pestering them for over a year, ruining their lands. Albert suggests that the four families work together to face Constance, but Miles is against it. He prefers to let the law handle the situation.
Unfortunately, Constance, being the richest person in town, considers herself above the law. With ties to the mayor and the sheriff, she sees no need to play by their rules.
Later, Elias delivers the lifeless cows to Paxton, extending an olive branch of collaboration. But Paxton, unfazed by familial ties and focused solely on his loyal companion, the dog, declines the offer, choosing instead to keep to his own affairs. The next morning, Fiona reports the incident to the sheriff, only to find that he's in no hurry to solve the mystery. Meanwhile, Trisha teases her brother for his obvious crush on Dahlia, Fiona's daughter. She attempts a matchmaking gambit that goes awry, leaving Willem wounded by Dahlia's taunts and mockery. Heartbroken, Willem embarks on a binge of self-destruction through alcohol. His mother, sensing the storm brewing, sends Jack, her trusted confidant, to intervene. However, Willem feels further humiliated by her intervention and vows to end his binge soon and return home. Instead of heeding this promise, he heads to the Abandons to confront Dahlia. In a moment of passion gone wrong, he rapes her, and in a fit of self-defense, she stabs him with a farm fork.
The news reaches Fiona as she gathers with her neighbors to devise a plan. All except Miles are eager to join forces in their pursuit of justice. They rush to find Willem, barely alive and clinging to life. Miles immediately distances his family from the fray, arguing over their next steps and ultimately settling on letting God decide Willem's fate. Fiona suggests that if Willem survives the night, they'll call the sheriff the next morning.
At Constance's house, she grows increasingly worried as her son remains absent. Meanwhile, back at the Abandons, Fiona sends everyone else to bed but Dahlia. In a moment of confession and catharsis, she ends Willem's suffering while revealing that she had also killed her abusive husband.
The following morning, Constance confronts Trisha with a burning question, seeking the truth behind the recent turmoil. Trisha, her eyes heavy with unspoken anguish, finally relays the story of Willem and Dahlia's confrontation. Constance's fury boils over, as she chastises Trisha for withholding such crucial information. Together with the sheriff, they make their way to Fiona's abode to confront Dahlia directly.
Simultaneously, Constance tasks Jack with reaching out to the infamous Red Masks, a bandit group notorious for their ruthless thefts and killings. At the Abandons, despite Fiona's cautionary advice, Dahlia emerges to meet with Constance and the law enforcement, telling a fabricated tale that Willem never sought her out.
The team embarks on a quest to locate Willem among the other families of the Hollows. All members of the Hollows clan stand together in solidarity with Fiona, shielding her from any incriminating evidence. When their search yields no leads, Constance turns to Roache, the leader of the Red Masks, offering him a bounty to find her son. Jack issues a stern warning to Roache against any violence or theft during his investigation.
Meanwhile, Dahlia and Fiona make a beeline for Paxton, urging him to join forces in their quest for justice. Paxton remains unswayed, interrupting them before they can divulge Willem's fate. On their return journey, Fiona offers Dahlia reassurance that everything will be resolved in due time.
At the local tavern, Trisha's flirtatious advances towards Elias ignite a brawl between the Van Ness and Nolan clans. The melee escalates until Constance breaks it up with a shot in the air. Later that evening, Fiona reprimands her children for their reckless behavior just days after Willem's tragic demise. Elias expresses his remorse for letting Dahlia down and failing to protect her.
As night falls, the families of the Hollows gather to decide on Willem's fate. A vote is held between reporting the truth and burying the body, with each family allowed two votes per representation. Dahlia, Albert, and Quentin opt for a secret burial; Quentin's wife chooses to expose the truth; Miles votes against his daughter's wishes; and he and Quentin's wife conspire to tie the vote.
Just as things are reaching a critical juncture, Paxton arrives with his deceased dog, which Constance had put down as a result of an earlier incident involving her horse. The loss of his companion stirs deep hurt within Paxton, who decides to bury his dog alongside Willem's remains.
With that, the four families converge on Paxton's dog's grave to lay Willem to rest, vowing to keep his secret buried along with him.
