Episode 4 of Season 1 of "The Bondsman" begins with a scene of Deputy Sheriff bullying a local entrepreneur, Duke, fully aware that Duke has stolen his food truck and exploiting this situation to his benefit. After his menacing confrontation with Duke, the deputy steps into his patrol car, unaware that a demon has now taken control of his body.
Elsewhere, Hub finds himself at home, reliving the glory days of his performances with Maryanne through old videos. His surroundings are haunted by the ghostly presence of Maryanne herself. Suddenly, another demonic task arrives, instructing Hub to capture an earth demon named Erdos.
Meanwhile, at the local club, Lucky observes Cade and Maryanne performing on stage. Following a heated confrontation with his parents, Cade begins to suffer from stage fright. Maryanne tries to offer words of encouragement, but Cade is too overwhelmed, yearning deeply for his father's approval. Frustrated, Maryanne shares her feelings with Lucky, who urges her to consider severing ties with Hub completely.
As they converse, someone alerts them that Lucky's car is on fire. It soon transpires that Kitty orchestrated this fire as a distraction to gain access to Lucky's office and frame him. However, Maryanne intercepts Kitty before she can slip away. Kitty pleads with Maryanne to intervene in her fight with Hub.
Maryanne inquiries about Hub's whereabouts, prompting Kitty to confess her ignorance of his location. Undeterred, Maryanne decides to trace Hub through their family's shared GPS application. Hub's search leads him to Deputy Briggs' cruiser parked near Duke's food truck. Duke informs Hub that the deputy has wandered off some time ago. Though Hub calls Kitty to update her, he hesitates to disclose his current position. Fortunately, a reliable source at the police station aids Hub in pinpointing Deputy Briggs' location. Hub discovers the deputy inside a store, but before he can confront him, Maryanne arrives on the scene.
She insists that Hub confronts Cade and expresses his faith in him. Hub attempts to dissuade her from staying, but her attention is drawn to a ghastly sight—a deceased body, causing her to scream in horror. Swiftly, Hub seizes her hand, and they trail the mud tracks leading to Deputy Briggs. Maryanne assumes Briggs is there to offer assistance, but he betrays them.
Ultimately, Maryanne is compelled to intervene and assists Hub in neutralizing the deputy. However, shortly thereafter, Deputy Briggs' body is engulfed in flames, igniting the entire store in a blazing inferno.
Returning home, Maryanne engages in cleaning up while Hub dials Midge. She expresses surprise at his discovery of her address but remains tight-lipped about the demonic sacrifices. She implores him not to contact her again.
Maryanne, already startled by her recent demonic encounter, readily believes Hub's narrative. She realizes that she must sever ties with Lucky, given that he, in a technical sense, attempted Hub's murder. In agreement, she resolves to leave town promptly with Cade, perhaps returning once the dust settles.
As their conversation unfolds, Kitty dials Maryanne's number with urgency, and together they bolt towards Lucky's office. Arriving just in the nick of time, they witness the police placing Lucky under arrest for his dealings in crystal meth. To compound his woes, the authorities also uncover the firearm that Kitty had cleverly concealed within Lucky's premises. The revelation hangs like a sword of Damocles over their heads; if Lucky decides to spill the beans about Pastor Ron, he will drag him into the mess as well. Kitty's cunning maneuver had successfully framed Lucky.
Maryanne confronts Lucky with a steely resolve, her voice laced with disappointment as she terminates their relationship. She sternly warns him to steer clear of Hub, emphasizing that he is far from an ordinary individual. Subsequently, Maryanne and Cade proceed to pack their belongings, a sense of relief washing over Cade as Hub reassures him of his innate talent and potential to excel as a singer.
Later on, the sheriff probes Hub, inquiring about the reasons behind his search for Deputy Briggs an hour before the latter's untimely demise. Hub fabricates a weak and unconvincing alibi, yet somehow, the sheriff seems to swallow it hook, line, and sinker.
