Episode 1 of The Brothers Sun opens with two heavily armed guards stalking into a hotel room, unaware of the deadly trap they are about to encounter. With precision and brutality, Charles, a cunning gangster, neutralizes each of them, all while ensuring that his cake in the microwave remains unscathed. The aftermath of the carnage summons Bloodboots, a bald-headed man, and his cronies to sanitize the scene, erasing every trace of the blood-splattered carpet.
Charles, the son of a wealthy Chinese Triad gangster, faces a stern reprimand from his father upon witnessing the lifeless bodies. "You take too much joy in killing," his father chastises. However, the situation spirals out of control when a skilled sniper shoots Charles' father through a window of a neighboring building.
Rushed to the hospital, Charles' father slips into a coma due to a lack of blood flow to his brain. The doctors' prognosis is grim, offering little hope of his revival. In a fleeting moment of consciousness, his father issues a dire command to Charles: travel to Los Angeles, find his mother and brother, and safeguard them from any harm.
Charles, however, is not the gangster's only heir. His brother, Bruce, also shares the same bloodline. Unlike the impulsive Charles, Bruce is a regular Joe, scraping by as a taxi driver to fund his college tuition. When Bruce learns from his college administration that he is lagging behind on payments and faces the prospect of losing his semester, he is left with no choice. Despite having the money, Bruce squandered it on an acting improv class, a dream he has kept hidden from his mother who sees it as a frivolous pursuit.
Desperate, Bruce turns to his friend TK, asking for a loan of five thousand dollars. TK agrees, but with a catch: Bruce must help him sell drugs in the nightclubs. Reluctantly, Bruce agrees, but May, a veteran drug dealer from the White Crane gang, warns him of the perils of trying to outsmart her.
Upon his arrival in Los Angeles, Charles stumbled upon his mother's abode, unaware of the lurking shadow of a henchman who had sinister intentions. As anticipated, Charles emerged victorious, pinning the assailant to the table with a precise stab to his hand. Unperturbed, he offered the defeated henchman a cigarette, probing for information about his mastermind. However, when the henchman remained steadfast in his silence, Charles delivered a swift and devastating blow, snapping his neck in a single, decisive move.
Mama Sun returned home, her eyes landing on the ghastly sight of a lifeless body. She unleashed her frustration on Charles, breaking objects playfully yet with a hint of anger. Charles then revealed that his father lay in a coma, suspecting Sleepy Chen, Father's relentless rival, as the mastermind behind the sniper's attack. Their rivalry had been raging for two decades, a power struggle within the triad world.
As the evening drew to a close, Charles stumbled upon his brother Bruce in a dimly lit nightclub, indulging in the illegal trade of May's drugs. However, Charles' attempt to introduce himself to his estranged brother was met with a jolting taser from May's men. Upon learning that Bruce and Charles were the sons of Taiwan's most feared gangster, May and his crew launched a ferocious attack on Charles. They believed he had come to Los Angeles to usurp their domain.
Yet, Charles, as always, emerged victorious, dispatching May's men with ease, including the self-proclaimed skilled martial artist, May herself. Just when the brothers thought they had escaped unscathed, a deafening explosion ripped through the room, shattering walls and paving the way for a group of heavily armed gunmen. The armed goons rained bullets on May and her crew, but miraculously, Charles and Bruce managed to evade the carnage, escaping unscathed into the night.
