Published: Jul 09 2024

In the thrilling sequel to The Brother Sun, Father Sun, the head of the formidable Chinese Triad and a renowned gangster, finds himself in a perilous coma after being shot. Before being rushed to the hospital, he implores his son, Charles, to journey to Los Angeles and safeguard the safety of his beloved wife and son, Bruce. True to his duty, Charles hastens to LA to reunite with his family. However, Bruce is left reeling from the revelation that he hails from a wealthy gangster dynasty and possesses a brother who is a feared assassin.

As the second episode of The Brothers Sun unfolds, Mama Sun cunningly handles the aftermath of Charles' visit by dismantling the body for disposal. Meanwhile, Bruce's university exam, accounting for 8% of his final grade, looms large in his mind. However, Charles, instead of escorting Bruce to campus, tasks him with delivering a bulky suitcase filled with body parts to a bald man who specializes in such matters. The bald man sets a condition for the disposal: delivering a water monitor to a contact in Arcadia.

The Brothers Sun – Season 1 Episode 2 1

Charles, initially reluctant to become a mere messenger, soon sees an opportunity when he learns that the intended recipient might hold the key to identifying the assailant who attacked him in his mother's abode. Little does Charles realize that the bald man is a traitor, secretly divulging his whereabouts to an unknown caller, presumably Sunny Chan's henchmen.

Meanwhile, Mama Sun adheres to her daily routine of mah-jong with friends, hair salon visits, and shopping excursions. These seemingly mundane activities are, in fact, her subtle strategies to uncover the identity of the killer.

The journey to Arcadia transforms into a profound bonding experience for the brothers, affording Bruce a chance to finally unravel the mysteries that have been plaguing him. Bruce seeks answers to questions such as why their father sent them away, the true extent of their riches, and who desires to eliminate their family. Charles reveals that their father is a feared member of the Jade Dragon Society, a triad with a lineage tracing back to the Qing Dynasty.

The triad organizations have splintered into diverse cliques, each headed by ruthless gangsters indulging in a vast array of illicit activities and heinous crimes. Charles reveals that they've been targeted by a triad operative known only as Sunny Chan. To evade detection by the authorities, triad members operate under aliases, maintaining a veil of secrecy.

Upon arriving at the Arcadia mansion, Charles encounters a surprising recognition from the owner, who recalls a past encounter where Charles fatally struck a man with a pool cue. When Charles reveals the slain man's severed head, the owner pales and pleads for the Jade Dragon's protection. Though Charles assents, before any crucial information is divulged, the man is brutally stabbed by a gang dressed as fearsome dinosaurs.

Amidst the chaos, Charles and his brothers, armed with their martial arts prowess, once again evade unharmed. However, the dinosaur-clad assailants are merely a distraction, as the police and Deputy DA Alexis are relentlessly pursuing them, probing into May's mysterious death and the nightclub explosion.

Alexis tracks Bruce to his college and discovers Charles leisurely munching on churros, nonchalantly holding a bag containing the gruesome trophy. It transpires that Charles and Alexis share a profound history as childhood friends who grew up in Taipei. Their paths diverged when Alexis pursued education in the States. However, before Alexis can delve deeper into Charles' affairs, he slips away once again, leaving her with more questions than answers.

Towards the episode's climax, Alexis revisits Charles, revealing her knowledge of his father's dire condition and warning him to refrain from causing turmoil in Los Angeles. Alexis also secures Charles' contact information, ensuring they can remain in communication.
