The Brothers Sun – Season 1 Episode 3 1

Episode 3 of The Brothers Sun commences with Charles receiving a distressing call from a loyal associate of his father's. The caller alerts Charles that the danger looming over Father Sun is but a shadow of the threat facing numerous members of the Jade Dragon Society. The associate further updates Charles on his father's condition, revealing that there has been no sign of improvement; he remains unconscious but is anticipated to regain consciousness. As the call concludes, Charles issues a directive to his associate, ordering Bloodboot and his team to deal with the bodies in Los Angeles. Furthermore, Charles requests a face-to-face encounter with Sleepy Chan to negotiate terms of peace. Charles believes that such an accord would be mutually advantageous, yet he warns that if Sleepy Chan refuses, he will resort to the only language he knows: brute force.

During a leisurely lunch with Alexis, Charles is abruptly interrupted by a call from his mother, who expresses concern over Bruce's silence in response to her calls and texts. The pair hastily rushes to Bruce's college, and upon encountering his classmate, Grace, they learn that a woman with raven hair and an unusual tattoo has abducted Bruce. Mother Sun's expression betrays her knowledge of who Grace is referring to.

Meanwhile, June reveals to Bruce and TK that her motives are far from monetary gain or amusement. She seeks vengeance for her sister May's death. The sisters, orphans since childhood, had to fend for themselves since the tender age of ten. June harbors guilt for not being by her sister's side on the fateful day of the shooting and blames herself for failing to protect her. Eventually, Bruce's resolve shatters, and he divulges to June the whereabouts of his brother, Charles, but the address he provides leads her to a mere fast-food joint, a Chick-fil-A.

Mother Sun introduces Charles to her mahjong club, aptly described as a labyrinthine web of undercover spies, where they often possess all the crucial information. Initially, Charles dismissed it as a futile endeavor, doubting the elderly ladies' ability to assist in locating Bruce's abductor. However, his skepticism was swiftly dispelled when a club member enlightened them about Tony Tang, an octogenarian involved in drug trafficking for the White Crane Gang. Intriguingly, Tang also owned the prestigious seafood restaurant titled "Number 1" in Alhambra, and the woman's claim was indeed genuine.

Charles took matters into his own hands, dispatching Tang's henchmen and obtaining the address of the White Cranes' clandestine warehouse, where June was holding Bruce captive. As tensions escalated, Bruce intervened, convincing June that they were not May's assailants; rather, it was Sleepy Chan. They unanimously decided to put aside their differences and collaborate to uncover the true perpetrator.

During a meal, June recounted to Charles that a thug from the Red Ribbon Gang (a pseudonym) had visited her tattoo parlor, requesting a specific phrase tattoo. Astonishingly, it was the same phrase Mother Sun had discovered in the Giant's apartment. Mother Sun further bolstered her investigation, revealing that Tony Tang and Sleepy Chan were colluding. She postulated that the only means to lure Sleepy Chan out was to eliminate Tony Tang.

Charles concurred, but June insisted on handling Tang herself for vengeance. Ironically, this entire kidnapping ordeal unexpectedly transformed into a boon for Bruce, as his mother granted him the liberty to pursue his improv comedy aspirations. As episode 3 drew to a close, it was revealed that Tony Tang had been assassinated, and the perpetrator had mutilated his limbs, seemingly sending a chilling message.
