Episode 9 of "The Divorce Insurance" kicks off with Na-rae dismissing the task force, her mind set on departure. Yet, upon catching sight of Jeon-man, she hesitates. A nostalgic flashback ensues, where the Vice President (VP) had warned her of Best General Insurance's (BGI) impending launch of a similar divorce insurance policy, urging caution lest they be caught in the act.
Presently, Na-rae breaks the news to her team about BGI and the halt in their own product's progression. Han-deul's expression darkens as she reveals that BGI's president, Jeong-shin, is her former classmate and was privy to their product. Jeon-man proposes the possibility of a mole within their ranks, prompting Na-rae to bolt out of the room. Han-deul concurs, suspecting a link between the flyer complaint and BGI's plagiarism.
Meanwhile, Jeong-shin issues a directive to tie up all loose ends. Back at Plus General Insurance, Dae-bok stands firm, refusing to yield and demanding an investigation. However, the audit team alleges a data breach originating from Han-deul's computer, leading to her suspension.
Jeon-man notices Na-rae in a hurry and trails her. He overhears her pleading with the VP to intervene and scrap BGI's product, emphasizing the task force's diligent efforts. The VP mocks her sense of justice, reminding her of her own plot to pilfer the idea and launch it in China under her name. He dares her to pilfer other ideas, questioning her attachment to the task force. Though she scoffs at his absurdity, her demeanor darkens once the VP exits.
Throughout the entire ordeal of the task force's quest to uncover the mole, Jeon-man remained eerily silent. They desperately needed Na-rae's access to sift through the computer login records and CCTV footage, but she steadfastly refused. Nevertheless, she embarked on her own investigation, stumbling upon the VP's colleague slyly sneaking into the office after hours. Additionally, she discovered something peculiar in the login logs.
Jeon-man approached her, urging her to make the prudent decision. He also confessed that her harsh words about their task force had left him deeply disappointed. Na-rae revealed that she was constrained from expressing her genuine emotions, and he empathized with her precarious position. Yet, he advised her to heed her heart's call.
Elsewhere, Ki-jun was driving Han-deul home when her parents rang, summoning her for someone's birthday celebration. The Kangs were brusque towards Ki-jun and mortified by Han-deul's divorce. They rescinded their invitation to a family gathering when she declined to bring her ex-husband. They ridiculed her desire to flee a loveless marriage, prompting her to storm out in a huff. Amidst her tears, she found Ki-jun patiently awaiting her return.
The following day, Na-rae confronted the VP for leaking data to BGI, but he once again reminded her that she was as corrupt as he was. He issued a veiled threat, but she retaliated by spilling hot coffee on him and striding away.
She found herself weeping at a nearby convenience store, reminiscing about the joyous moments shared with the task force. Jeon-man stumbled upon her, silently sitting beside her. He eventually escorted her back to the office, where she poured out her heart. Her initial plan had been to facilitate the product launch in China, prompting her to suggest stealing data from a task force computer. However, she emphasized that she had never colluded with BGI. She apologized profusely and vowed to rectify the situation. Han-deul appreciated the magnitude of her struggle and thanked her for her confession.
Advancing their strategic blueprint, they leverage the photograph captured during the vow renewal ceremony as undeniable proof that Han-deul was indeed present in Gorangae Village on the fateful day when the Vice President's mole accessed her computer. Next, Dae-bok deploys his extensive network, dispatching Ki-jun and Jeon-man in pursuit of the treacherous Oh Jeong-do. Jeong-do crumbles instantly under the pressure, eager to distance himself from the impending scandal. He produces a voice recording, wherein the Vice President instructions him to transmit the pilfered data to Jeong-shin's email address, handing over the email details without hesitation. Na-rae, seizing the initiative, employs this email to confront Jeong-shin, who hastily terminates their agreement.
The Vice President, enraged, vows to bring Na-rae down with him in his impending fall. Undeterred, Na-rae braces herself for the repercussions, summoning the audit team to escort him away amidst a storm of accusations. Jeon-man catches sight of her departing figure, a worried expression etched on his face. She admits her sorrow and the looming solitude that will accompany her departure from the task force. He reaches out, grasping her hand, and together they step into the elevator, their moment a quiet defiance against the turmoil surrounding them.
As dawn broke on a fresh day, the task force rejoiced, their product having successfully regained its footing. To lift Han-deul's spirits following a tumultuous week, Ki-jun thoughtfully orchestrated a heartwarming Christmas celebration at his abode, realizing that her parents' distant demeanor had contributed to her scant joyful recollections of the festive season. Han-deul's face lit up with gratitude, though she couldn't help but apologize for her mother's conduct. Ki-jun, unperturbed, welcomed her into a shared dinner filled with warmth and camaraderie.
The episode drew to a close with The Divorce Insurance team indulging in a lively pizza party, their spirits dampened slightly by the absence of Na-rae, while Jeon-man's melancholy was palpable. Just as the mood began to waver, an unexpected visitor arrived—Kim Seon-man from FSS, seeking a divorce.
Ki-jun and Ah-yeong found themselves in an interview with Han Yeo-reum, the wife, who revealed herself to be an influencer, tirelessly portraying her marriage as a bed of roses on social media while financially supporting her husband. Yet, behind the curatedfacade, Seon-man confided in Han-deul that their union was but a hollow shell, with Yeo-reum struggling under the weight of unfulfilled expectations. The future held no promise for them, and staying together against their will would only exacerbate their miseries.
Upon Seon-man's departure, Ah-yeong revealed a glimmer of hope, asserting that Yeo-reum still harbored deep affection for her husband and they might assist in their reconciliation. However, Han-deul remained steadfast in her belief that a divorce might be the kindest resolution for them both, acknowledging the irreparable fissures in their relationship.
