Episode 5 of Season 1 of "The Glass Dome" begins with Lejla gradually reclaiming consciousness, her eyelids fluttering like butterfly wings in the first light of awareness. Martin, in a frenetic rush, endeavors to prepare everything before her eyes fully open, his movements a frenetic ballet of urgency. Seizing the moment, Lejla slips from his grasp and flees into the dense embrace of the woods. Martin, in hot pursuit, eventually loses her trail amidst the twisting underbrush.
Fortunately, Lejla manages to navigate her way to the main road, where Valter, a guardian angel in disguise, discovers her collapsed form. With swift efficiency, he whisks her to the hospital and dials Tomas's number, imparting the startling revelation that Martin and Frick are one and the same. Yet, Tomas, distracted by his daring rescue of Emma from Frick's lair, ignores Valter's calls, laser-focused on securing Emma's testimony. Frustrated, Valter turns to Jorun, pleading with her to relay the message to Tomas. Upon receiving the news, Tomas dashes to the hospital, his heart heavy with concern for Lejla.
Meanwhile, Said's heart aches with the lingering hope that Alicia will soon be rescued by the authorities. After visiting Lejla, Tomas returns to the precinct, where he spots Jim and his menacing henchmen lurking outside, their mission to hunt down predators in human guise. Tomas attempts to deter them, but Jorun's summons pulls him away. They converge on Frick's cabin, only to find it deserted, its eerie silence echoing their disappointment. The police spring into action, setting up roadblocks and securing every scrap of evidence within the cabin's confines.
At the hospital, Lejla insists on leaving against medical advice, her determination a beacon in the sea of doubt. Valter escorts her home, while Tomas pays a visit, updating her on Frick's whereabouts. Lejla realizes with a chilling clarity that Frick had infiltrated her room, stealing pieces of her life. Tomas mentions Emma's harrowing account of Frick's musings about another girl, leading the police to speculate that she could be referring to Alicia.
After Tomas's departure, Lejla swallows a handful of pills, succumbing to an uneasy slumber. Her dreams transport her back to the glass dome, a surreal sanctuary of her past. She wanders through a vivid landscape of a blazing bonfire, her mother's visage shimmering like a mirage among the flames. Said's call interrupts her tormented reverie, her words a disjointed jumble as she rambles about Ecki having Alicia and the police pursuing the wrong culprit. Said, alarmed, storms into the precinct, demanding that Tomas speak with Lejla.
Elsewhere, Jim stumbles home, inebriated and smeared in crimson. His father, a silent conspirator, confiscates his blood-stained coat, reducing it to ashes in an attempt to erase the evidence of Jim's dark deeds.
The following morning, Said and Kristina attempt to delve deeper into Lejla's fragmented memories about Ecki. However, her mind remains a labyrinth of confusion, her words a disjointed echo of the night before. Seeking solace, Said steps outside for a cigarette, only to be followed by Lejla, her contrition a palpable weight. As they converse, their eyes catch sight of a grotesque sight—a bloody green bag dangling ominously from a machine. Their curiosity leads them to a harrowing discovery: Frick's lifeless body, a grim testament to the depths of human depravity.
The police raced to the scene, and Tomas lost his composure. He felt a surge of mockery, knowing that the police hadn't been able to track down Frick, yet someone else had not only found him but also taken his life. Suspecting Jim, Tomas confronted him head-on. Jim's father stepped in, reminding Tomas of his lack of evidence and whisking Jim away from the confrontation. However, Tomas' sharp eyes caught sight of Jim's bloody shoes, which he seized and handed over to Jorun for forensic examination.
Later that evening, Lejla confided in Valter her intention to leave. The weight of the investigation had worn her down, and she craved escape. Valter, acknowledging her exhaustion, concurred that it might be best. As he scanned through their mail, a letter addressed to Lejla caught his attention—an eerie piece without a return address. Upon opening it, they discovered strands of Lejla's hair, the very same that Ecki had snipped when he held her captive.
Once more, the police descended upon Valter's house. Valter insisted on round-the-clock surveillance, to which Tomas assented. He also urged Tomas to revisit the evidence pertaining to Lejla's case. Boxes of evidence were carted from Valter's abode to the precinct, igniting the investigation anew, with Jorun and Lejla at the helm. Lejla posited that Frick's demise was Ecki's retribution for emulating him.
The following morning, Valter officially rejoined the fray, emerging from retirement to aid the police. Meanwhile, an officer escorted Lejla home. There, she immersed herself in her mother's interview recordings, wherein her mother recounted a trip to Mora earlier in 2001. Lejla visited the locale and confirmed her presence alongside her mother. To her astonishment, she discovered that Tomas had been there concurrently.
Back at the station, Jorun's report dealt a blow to Tomas—the blood on Jim's boots belonged to an elk. This revelation plunged Tomas into despair, leading him on a binge-drinking spree. At the bar, he encountered Said and confessed his affair with Louise. Predictably, Said retaliated with a punch. Valter, having heard about the altercation, rescued Tomas from the tavern. During the ride home, the brothers' tumultuous childhood came to light, including Tomas' grim habit of choking animals to death. Valter advised him to rest and attend to Lejla's calls.
Sure enough, Lejla's suspicions toward Tomas escalated. She was now poring over Valter's family photographs at his house. A picture of the boys with their parents caught her eye, and as she scrutinized it, a chilling realization struck her—their mother bore a striking resemblance to the victims. Separately, Said called her out for keeping Louise and Tomas' affair under wraps. Meanwhile, Jorun's inquiries into Tomas' oversight of crucial clues in Ines' case began to pile up.
