The Lady – Season 1 Episode 3 1

A flashback takes us to 1999, where Jane is preparing a meal. Tommy compliments her, calling her a domestic goddess. As he heads upstairs, Jane is left listening to Sarah's interview, so engrossed that she barely hears the doorbell. Tommy's friends are enjoying the dinner. Leo shares the great news that his girlfriend has accepted his proposal. Duncan jokingly talks about a stripper Tommy met and the intimate moment they shared, creating tension. Jane wishes she had known all this before Tommy asked her to move in with him. However, Tommy asks her not to pay attention.

We are then taken back to the investigation room where Jane's friends and Tommy's brother are dispensing information. Back at the house, Jane is furious about what Duncan shared, but Tommy dismisses her, calling her too sensitive. Jane expresses her fear of what she would do if Tommy ever leaves her. To make up, Tommy tells her to wear her sexy boots since they stimulate him.

The following day, Tommy leaves for Berlin without calling Jane. She leaves him a voice note, but he still doesn't call or pick up her phone. She uses Tommy's computer and reads his sexual emails with a certain lady, which infuriates her. She tries to call Dun and Leo, requesting them to tell Tommy to pick up the phone. When Tommy returns, he assures her that nothing happened between them. He claims it was just curiosity and fetishes.

Jane visits a therapist who thinks people in her life try to dismiss her, including her parents. She says her life revolves around Tommy. The therapist advises her to establish boundaries by letting Tommy know what's unacceptable.

Later that day, she engaged in a heartfelt conversation with Tommy about the impact of his behavior on her. She expressed her desire to avoid the dark days of their past, but Tommy reassured her, and they shared a warm embrace. The scene then shifted to the interrogation room, where Francesca revealed that Jane had been texting her. Smart informed her that Jane had been spotted purchasing an excessive amount of painkillers and advised her to reach out to Jane to check on her well-being.

Meanwhile, in another flashback, Tommy, Jane, and their friends attended Her Majesty's 100th birthday celebration. The couple appeared happy, and Jane revealed that they would even purchase properties jointly. During the conversation, Duncan informed Jane of Luis's presence at the party. She became intoxicated and embarrassed Tommy, who asked her to go home. Later, she called him and cursed at him since there were no buses available to take her home.

The next day, Jane apologized for her unruly behavior. Tommy felt that she had treated him unfairly, but she promised to change. She stated that she was working on herself and would be a better version of Janey.

The scene then shifted to Francesca calling Jane to inquire about her whereabouts. Douglas encouraged her to keep talking so they could gather more information. Jane said it was dark and she couldn't see where she was. Her feet were also cold. However, she hung up once she realized that the call was a trap.

In the meantime, Tommy drove to France and shared lighthearted moments with his family. Jane watched Tommy, his father, and his brother, David, play a water-pool game. Jane learned that they wouldn't be driving to the observation deck since they had to share a meal at his home.

During the conversation, Jane learned that there would be cottages for Tommy's mother. She seemed upset because Tommy had not informed her about this. When asked by Tommy's mother if she knew any part of France, she quickly mentioned St. Tropez because she had spent time there with the Duchess of York.

After the meal, Jane timidly requests Tommy's permission to go upstairs. Refusing to take a drink, she insists it won't bring her any cheer. Her sole wish is for Tommy to cease humiliating her in front of his family. Tommy dismisses her request and demands that she leave, declaring he's weary of her perpetual melancholy. She ascends the stairs, retrieves the car keys, and drives away. Tommy calls her to return his brother's car, which she does.

Upon returning home, an argument ensues between Jane and Tommy. He feels she constantly embarrasses him in front of his parents and friends. He tells her she's broken and that something is amiss within her. He also confesses that he wishes he had never met her. Jane threatens to harm herself with the knives in the kitchen.

She retreats to another room, and we can hear the sound of glass smashing. Tommy dials the police, informing them of the situation. He urges them to arrive and separate them before they injure each other. Jane overhears everything.
