Episode 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 opens with Mickey waking up in jail. He engages in a conversation with Bamba, promising to help him if he protects him during his incarceration. Bamba is eager to swiftly handle his parole violation and get out of jail.

Lorna, unable to sleep, gets up early to start the day. Izzy and Grace spend the entire night talking, where Izzy pleads with Grace for patience as she navigates Mickey's trial. She warns her that Mickey will have to come first for now, and Grace is moved by her loyalty. They decide to let the cards fall where they may.
In jail, Mickey prepares for his hearing. Lorna and Cisco arrive at the office together and find Izzy feeling dizzy. She reminds them that they should probably cancel the bus advertisement, but Lorna claims she has an idea. Izzy also asks about house hunting, but Lorna is more focused on getting Mickey's case dismissed.
Ahead of the hearing, Lorna and Cisco show Mickey the videos from the police footage. Mickey requests to subpoena Officer Collins' calls, and Lorna worries that it will only bring more heat. Mickey also insists on questioning Officer Collins while Lorna handles the bail motion. Unfortunately, it turns out the judge is jammed, and they don't have enough time for both motions. Mickey insists on questioning the cop and postponing the bail motion. As he leaves, he asks about Baja, and they tell him that the plan is all set.
In court, Mickey cleverly leads Officer Colin into the trap he set. Colin lies that he only noticed Mickey when he saw the missing license plate. Mickey gets ready to nail him on his lies but changes his mind when he spots Hayley and Maggie. It turns out Lorna asked Maggie to come in case they needed her for the bail motion.
After the hearing, Lorna confronts Mickey for changing the strategy mid-session. He claims that he doesn't want his case dismissed on a technicality and wants to prove his innocence by getting a full exoneration. They start brainstorming on how they will catch the real killer. For starters, they need Sam's toxicology report, and Cisco is already on it.
Cisco heads back to the office and enlists Izzy's help in delivering a box of expensive French chocolate to Eric Cheever, a technician at the county crime lab. Although Cisco is banned from entering the building, they need a way to bypass the backlog at the lab. Despite her better judgment, Izzy successfully delivers the chocolates.
Meanwhile, Maggie stops by the office to validate her parking and chat with Lorna, who is doing a photoshoot on the roof. She's trying to boost billboard and bus promotions to keep the firm's lights on. Maggie asks about the hearing, and Lorna clarifies that Mickey wants a full exoneration. They worry that Mickey is getting reckless. Lorna asks Maggie to reschedule her schedule to be available the next day for Mickey's bail hearing.
Later, Mickey calls Lorna, and she updates him on the latest news. Mickey subtly brings up Baja; by the looks of it, he's planning to flee to Mexico. Cisco and Lorna assure him that the plan is set.
The following day, Lorna argues in court that Mickey is no flight risk and deserves affordable bail. Dana refutes the demands and reveals that there's a plan in motion to look into Mickey's plan to flee to Mexico. She unknowingly falls into Mickey's trap.
It turns out that Mickey was suspicious that the county jail deputies were listening in on privileged calls and telling the prosecutors what they heard. He set the trap to prove a point, and the judge is shocked by the extent of the violations and promises to launch an investigation and punish the responsible parties. In the end, the judge sets the bail for $1 million, and Val comes through for Mickey.
After being released on bail, Siegel warns Mickey to tread carefully, convinced that the county sheriff's department will seek revenge. Mickey chooses to focus on the present and embarks on a walk with Maggie and Hayley. Maggie mentions that she needs to return to work and her boyfriend. Meanwhile, Lorna attempts to help her client, Celeste, by introducing an STD infection as a form of bodily harm. Unfortunately, Celeste's husband and his legal team fail to take the bait.
Across the city, Maggie has dinner with her boyfriend, Jack. She vents about Mickey's situation and quickly apologizes. At his home, Mickey and Hayley struggle to sleep. Hayley confesses that she is grappling with her father's case.
The next day, Eric arrives with Cisco's toxicology report on Sam. As suspected, Rohypnol was found in his system. They deduce that Sam was roofied and transported to Mickey's house. Cisco begins investigating possible locations where the culprits picked up Sam. Based on the cooking grease found on Sam's wheelchair, they are at a loss for what he was up to. They decide to investigate Sam's financial records to uncover the scams he was involved in.
Simultaneously, Mickey realizes that Sam's wallet is missing from the evidence bag. He orders Lorna to draft a motion to compel discovery and subpoena the lead detective, Drucker. Mickey fears that the police might be hiding evidence. He also realizes that they know too little about Sam's false identities. He recalls that Sam mentioned he owed a significant amount of money to his investors from his last scam and that they would kill him if he failed to pay. Mickey and his team decide to focus on the wallet and uncovering Sam's aliases.
Afterwards, Mickey heads to pick up his ankle bracelet as he is only allowed to stay within L.A. Meanwhile, Lorna discovers an intriguing clause in the rental insurance agreement that inspires her to try something for Celeste's case.
Unfortunately, Mickey's Lincoln is confiscated by the county sheriff under the pretext that it was purchased with illegal funds from the cartel. It dawns on Mickey that Siegel was right, and the county sheriff is only beginning their revenge plan.
