In the flashback segment of Episode 2 of The Madison, Preston calls Stacy, but their conversation is disrupted by a shaky connection. He climbs to higher ground to have a proper conversation with her. He takes a picture and sends it to Stacy, who comments on its beauty but declares her love for beaches. They discuss the differences between the two aesthetics, and she invites him to stay for the week. However, he quickly remembers that they have to attend the Met Gala.

Back in the present, Stacy lies on the ground, reminding her of the tall yellow grass. In the cabins, Abigail is making pancakes, but her daughters insist on not eating gluten. She explains to them that what they have is good and is not loaded with unnecessary chemical ingredients. Paige walks in and asks Russell to make her tea. Abigail suggests coffee, but Paige says it will cause havoc in her system. Paige then goes to the outside bathroom, asking them to wish her luck. Abby makes a remark suggesting that Russell's mother is a domineering type, just by observing their behavior.
Paige goes to the outhouse and gets stung by hornets. She rushes back to the house, where her mother comes to her rescue. Russell gets them the medicine, while Abby offers him bug spray to get rid of the hornets. He also gets stung in the eye and gets into another heated argument with Paige. Stacy reprimands them, asking them to stop behaving like 11-year-olds. Macy says she's 11 but doesn't behave that way.
Meanwhile, Stacy requests that Abby accompany her to the valley. Once there, she says that she'll bury Preston there. Abby argues that the land belongs to Paul, and her mother might not manage to take care of it. However, Stacy insists that she'll take care of the land and visit the grave often.
Abby wonders if her mother, Stacy, will ever move on from the past, but Stacy firmly asserts that she has no intention of doing so. She declares that she will not try to love again and that she didn't bring Abby there to seek her permission but to share her decision. As Stacy leaves, Abby expresses disappointment that she hasn't paid back her father, Preston, for the money he loaned her. However, Stacy assures her that Preston was not disappointed and never expected the money back.
On the ranch, Bridget and Macy are outside when an unknown man approaches. Abigail and Stacy rush to meet him as he introduces himself as Cade. He brings them food, stating that the neighbors are worried they might starve. They ask him if there are any emergency centers to treat Russell's hornet stings, but he suggests a paste made from baking powder. Stacy follows him to apologize for the unkind comments made by the girls about the Indian taco. She also inquires about local funeral homes, and he assists her.
Stacy is angered by Macy's and Bridget's ungrateful remarks and calls them "spoiled little bitches." Abby follows her outside, and Stacy breaks down. She asks them to leave as they don't seem to understand why they are there.
In another flashback, we return to when Preston was discussing how men thrive by focusing on a single task, whereas women struggle with singular tasks but excel at multiple ones.
Jokingly, Stacy suggests that Preston write a book on how not to have sex with his wife for a month. Preston counters that women are skilled at communication and organization, while men are driven to achieve their goals, no matter the distance. Throughout these exchanges, Stacy urges him to simply state his desire to go fishing with his brother. Preston agrees, and the two share a kiss.
Returning to the ranch, Stacy grabs the car keys and drives to the funeral home. The mortician advises her to register part of the ranch as a cemetery and obtain proper notation from the county and state. He suggests consulting an attorney. The mortician also warns her to consider the future, as new owners may prohibit her from visiting Preston's grave if she or the children ever sell the ranch. As she drives back, she stops by the roadside and finds solace among the horses.
Returning late at night, Stacy heads to her cabin and begins reading the journal, which brings a sense of calm. When Abby knocks, Stacy asks about the other cabin, which Abby describes as strange due to the abundance of games and toys. Upon visiting the cabin, Stacy realizes that Preston had built it for Abby and Paige. She realizes how lucky she was in their marriage but had not been fully aware of it. Stacy laments the many missed opportunities they will never have again.
Meanwhile, Paige awakens Russell in the middle of the night to tell him that she has forgiven him. Russell is confused as to why, considering he hadn't done anything wrong. Paige explains that it's because he knew about the hornets in the bathroom, despite having previously warned her. They apply cream together and make up, cuddling and kissing.
The next morning, Stacy signals for the girls to join her for a walk. Meanwhile, Paige is scared to use the outdoor bathroom and instead decides to defecate in the barn. Coincidentally, she finds Russell there too. Stacy tells Paige to stop defecating in the barn since she has killed all the hornets.
The family takes a walk to the valley, where Stacy announces her decision to bury their father there. To protect this place, she plans to sell their townhouse in Manhattan. This ensures they will not lose or sell it. This is now her home, and when she dies, she wants to be buried next to Preston. Abby claims that their father died with the whole family in the middle of nowhere.
