The episode begins with Jack watching as the police carry Calvin's body from Charmaine's house. Mike approaches him and informs him that Charmaine and the twins are safe but on the run. He asks Jack to let him know if Charmaine reaches out to him.

Later, Jack heads home and fills Mel in on the situation. Their conversation eventually turns to Marley's offer, and Mel expresses her uncertainty about their readiness for a child and whether Marley's proposal was sincere. They decide to keep working with the adoption agency while continuing their newlywed bliss. Jack surprises Mel with a hot-air balloon ride and they realize they want to go to different destinations for their honeymoon. Mel wants to go to Hawaii, while Jack wants to visit Italy. She challenges him to convince her about Italy.
Meanwhile, Mel drops by the clinic where Vernon informs her that the board will be investigating the Henry house call. In the meantime, Vernon's medical license is suspended. Hope shares that Grace Valley is trying to expand into Virgin River and wants Vernon out of the picture. Vernon asks Mel to cover for him at the clinic while the investigation is ongoing. Hope promises to see what she can do civically to help as well.
Elsewhere, Jack drops by Brie's place to hang out and learn how to cook Italian pizza. She opens up about her situation with Mike and Brady. She is uncertain about why Mike proposed and feels she needs more time.
Speaking of Mike, he gets a visit from Brady, who wants him to help find Lark, who drained his account and went missing. Mike punches him in the face and tells him to figure things out on his own.
Later, Mel meets with Marley and assures her that she will find suitable parents for her child. She kindly offers to let her stay at the airstream while she figures things out. At home, Roland unexpectedly drops two old horses at Jack’s ranch. He informs Jack that he can either keep the horses or have them euthanized. At the restaurant, Kaia and Preacher are surprised to learn that Food & Wine magazine has written about his new dishes. The article has attracted people from all over to try the praised dish. Kaia asks Preacher to let her plan a small celebration for him.
At the clinic, Mel meets with Victoria, the state medical board investigator. Although Vernon is a bit antagonistic towards Victoria, Mel reminds him to be on his best behavior and cooperate. Meanwhile, Kaia runs into Brady, who tells her about Lark. As they talk, Brady figures out someone who might know where Lark is. In the evening, Jack comes home to find that Mel has prepared a Hawaiian-inspired dinner as a way to convince him to choose Hawaii for their honeymoon. She calls him a pushover when she learns about the two new horses, suggesting getting help at the farm.
The next morning, Hope frantically searches for the town charter to see if there is something in there that can help Vernon. Lizzie is shocked to see that Hope keeps her dad’s urn in the drawer. Once they find the town charter, Hope gets a creative idea to keep Grace Valley out of their town.
At the clinic, Vernon commends Muriel for her commendable work while she takes a break to focus on her cancer treatment, choosing to keep her condition a secret from Walt. Vernon urges her to open up to him. On the other hand, Brady pays a visit to Frank, hoping for a lead on Lark's whereabouts, but Frank is as clueless as Brady.
At the restaurant, Jack runs into a young man named Clay who defends a woman's honor, leading to a confrontation. Impressed by Clay's horse-riding skills and in need of manpower at his farm, Jack offers him a job.
At Hope and Vernon's house, Hope shares her plan to create new zoning laws to protect Grace Valley from big corporations. She convenes a town council meeting, but not all residents are on board with her vision, arguing that some corporations could bring economic benefits to the community. Ultimately, Hope loses the vote, and her hopes are further dashed when she runs into Cody, who expresses doubts about Vernon's actions in saving his father's life.
At Jack and Mel's home, Clay helps Marley settle into her new life at the airstream. Mel and Jack continue their debate over their preferred honeymoon destination. Marley raises the possibility of them adopting her child, prompting Mel to reflect on her journey to becoming a midwife.
