Meanwhile, Lizzie is in labor, and Hope offers to help as they wait for the contractions to be five minutes apart. Everyone takes action, realizing that there's still a lot to do before the baby arrives. Vernon suggests that Hope leave to be with Muriel during her first chemotherapy treatment.

Elsewhere, Kaia and Mel comfort Brie, assuring her that she'll be okay. However, things get awkward when Jack reveals to Marley that he's a former military member. She quickly starts shutting him out.

Meanwhile, Brady finds Lark thanks to Frank and Norma's help. Initially, he's angry about her stealing his money, and they argue about it. However, after Lark explains how hurt she felt by Brady's betrayal and how she wanted to give her daughter a better future, Brady asks her to keep the money.

At the hospital, Muriel and the girls do their best to keep the mood up. They all work to make sure Muriel is comfortable. Muriel admits that she's scared to tell Walt, but the girls have already called him. Unlike how Muriel imagined, Walt is supportive and even jokes about the situation to keep her from overthinking.

At the clinic, Lizzie's contractions start getting closer. Vernon explains to Victoria that he's only there for the birth of his great-grandchild. Denny also starts to panic, and Mel asks him to take it easy and embrace the moment.

In the meantime, Jack drops by the restaurant to get lunch for Marley and Mel. He's surprised by the menu change and asks Prescher to make sure it doesn't get too fancy and expensive.

As Lizzie labors, Mel and Vernon receive a patient visit. Vernon explains to Shirley that his medical license has been suspended, and Mel will be taking over. Mel reminds him to let her take charge. She diagnoses Shirley with a pleural effusion and starts her on some IV antibiotics.

Later, Jack drops by with Mel's lunch and reports that things are not going well with Marley. Mel encourages him to figure out what went wrong. Vernon interrupts their conversation to inform Mel that Shirley's condition has deteriorated. Unfortunately, Mel can't perform a chest tube since she isn't licensed. Shirley refuses to let them call the ambulance due to her concerns about the cost. Thankfully, Vernon convinces her, and they end up sending her to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Jack arrives home to find the horses spooked by Marley when she was taking pictures. He and Clay manage to bring the horses back to the ranch. Watching Jack calmly handle Sugar makes Marley realize that she misjudged him. She thought he would have a temper like her dad since he was also in the military. She apologizes and asks if they can try to get to know each other again.

At the clinic, Vernon lashes out at Victoria because he had to send Shirley to the hospital when she couldn't afford an ambulance. He insists that he could have helped her if his medical license hadn't been temporarily revoked. He goes on to give a passionate speech about how he treats his patients like family. Victoria reminds him that the investigation is not personal and that she is there to do her job. She suggests he stay out of the clinic until she is done. She also hints that someone might have said something damning about Vernon's medical practice.

Frustrated by Victoria, Vernon goes to help install the child's car seat. Mel sends Denny to help him since they both seem nervous. Denny confides in Vernon that he is scared about being a dad and wishes his dad were there to help him. Vernon promises that they will figure it out together.

Hope arrives just as Lizzie is about to have her baby. Mel does a great job helping her deliver a healthy baby girl. Part of Mel feels sad as she watches Lizzie with her baby.

Later, Clay tries to flirt with Brie at the restaurant, but she pushes him away. She gets a call from Charmaine asking for help. In the evening, Vernon tells Hope about what Victoria said. She comes clean about her conversation with Cody. She encourages him not to give up and points out what a good, caring doctor he is. She suggests they call a meeting at the town hall and tell everyone what is at stake. She is sure they will stand by Vernon.

Mel finally gets home to find Jack warming their dinner. She tells him about the tough day she had. She shares her fear that Marley might change her mind when the kid is born. Jack asks her to trust the process even though it is risky and scary.

The episode ends with Brie arriving at the motel that Charmaine had asked her to meet at. She is shocked to find Mike there with no sign of Charmaine.
