After explaining the situation to the New York police officer, Van checks in on Abby, who admits she's still angry with him. Nonetheless, he promises to be there for her whenever she needs him. Unfortunately, we don't see if their relationship is mended. In contrast, her ex-husband steps up to help more with the kids.
Stacy seeks therapy, where she confronts her fears and the pain, anger, and sadness of her loss. Her unconventional therapist, Phil, helps her come to terms with everything she's been through. Even at the end of the episode, it's clear that the process is still raw for her - it's a work in progress.
Season 1 of "The Madison" concludes with Lil throwing a memorial service for Preston at Stacy's New York apartment. Her intentions are to comfort Stacy, but it doesn't seem to help much. Stacy has a heart-to-heart with Phil, who encourages her to do what feels right for her. Ultimately, she skips the memorial service, leaves her phone behind, and returns to Montana. Her children are concerned when they notice she's gone without her phone and hasn't returned. They file a missing persons report.
The show ends with Cade finding Stacy sleeping by Preston's grave, a gun beside her. She quickly assuages his worries and explains that the gun is for her safety. Still concerned, he asks if he can teach her how to use it. She agrees and asks where she can buy new clothes. He directs her to a local store. It seems she intends to stay in Montana since she claims to have missed the place
