Episode 2 of *The New Force* opens with Carin sifting through Monica’s case file, her eyes scanning the pages with intense focus. Siv, caught off guard and visibly shocked, reels at the realization that Carin not only obtained the file unlawfully but also had the audacity to bring it home. She urgently instructs Carin to return it without delay.
Back on patrol, Siv continues her routine of clearing the streets of drunken troublemakers. Meanwhile, Ingrid becomes an unintended witness to an act of blatant racism when Wallin, the Chief Detective, unleashes his fury on a young kid, beating him solely because of his gypsy heritage.
Ingrid, outraged and determined, immediately seeks out Sister Berg to report the incident. She meticulously writes up her account, but the situation is far from straightforward. Given the delicate and volatile political climate within the police station, Ingrid's reputation as a whistleblower could spell disaster. Consequently, she finds herself coerced into silence. Not long after, Wallin makes it abundantly clear to Ingrid that she is expected to toe the line.
In a parallel narrative, Siv and Oscar find themselves drawn closer together. However, their budding relationship raises red flags for Rossi, who cautions Siv against getting too involved while they are out on the streets. Rossi suspects Oscar's intentions are less than honorable, believing him to be solely interested in Siv's appearance. Siv, however, is unwilling to heed Rossi's warnings.
Switching back to Carin, she engages in a deep conversation with Johan about the Monica case, her determination to uncover the truth unwavering. For the time being, Johan takes it upon himself to mentor Carin, teaching her the nuances of proper interrogation techniques and how to handle domestic disturbances effectively.
Back at home, Siv pours over the Monica case file alongside Carin, both women agreeing that there is an eerie and unsettling air surrounding the case. Driven by their shared curiosity, they decide to visit Monica’s apartment while off-duty. There, they seize her diary and various notes, hoping to glean some insight. In the bedroom, a photograph capturing Monica and her sister catches Siv’s eye, and she discretely pockets it as well.
Siv strongly disagrees with Carin's approach to the investigation and issues a stern warning about the potential trouble she might land herself in. However, undeterred, Carin persists, even venturing back to the brothel to interrogate the girls further. She manages to track down Katina, one of the inhabitants and Monica's closest confidante. From Katina's lips, Carin learns that she and Monica once shared a home, but Monica had abruptly departed, relocating to a spacious apartment financed by Jack. Katina, however, remains tight-lipped, offering little else by way of information.
Back at the police station, Siv seeks out Oscar, only to be met with a barrage of criticism from her male colleagues, who derisively refer to her as "Miss Sweden." Determined to prove her mettle, Siv secures a private audience with Oscar, where she discusses Monica and the case Carin is diligently pursuing. Oscar, persuaded by her conviction, agrees to delve deeper into the matter.
Meanwhile, Carin is consumed with anger upon discovering that her partner, Arne, has been concealing her profession from his mother. Arne's mother, steeped in old-fashioned values, would be appalled to learn that Carin is a police officer. This revelation strikes a chord with Carin, who herself is estranged from her own mother. A letter from her mother arrives, but it fails to elicit any joy from Carin.
That fateful night, the police descend upon the brothel with force, shutting it down and rounding up the occupants. Among those apprehended are Katina and the bartender Carin had previously questioned in the first episode. During Oscar's interrogation of the bartender, he provides a description that aligns with Carin rather than Siv. Oscar, seizing the moment, publicly acknowledges Carin's contribution in front of everyone, thanking her for the crucial tip.
As the episode draws to a close, a shocking revelation comes to light: Jack has an informant within the police ranks, and it turns out to be none other than the District Chief, Svard.
