Episode 5 of *The New Force* kicks off with whispers swirling about Jack's capture. Carin, feeling the weight of her secret, finally comes clean to the girls about her involvement, only to be met with a storm of anger from Siv and Ingrid, who accuse her of putting them all in jeopardy.
At the police station, Oscar pulls Carin aside for a chat about Arne and the violent encounter he endured the previous night. Reimer, keeping a watchful eye, steps in to question Carin as well, emphasizing their partnership and the necessity for her to place her trust in him. As expected, Carin clams up, refusing to divulge any information. Her struggle to open up extends to Ingrid, with whom she's also finding it hard to connect.
Ingrid decides to tag along with Wallin. Together, they chase off a man in the street who's busy putting up Communist Labour League posters. Later, Wallin extends an invitation to Ingrid for drinks with him and his friends. However, the evening takes a sour turn as their ideologies and worldviews clash violently with Ingrid's own. She finds herself sitting awkwardly, forcing a smile through the discomfort, but it's evident that she's being primed for something far more significant than a casual night out.
Meanwhile, Carin pays a visit to Arne's place, seeking forgiveness. But Arne remains behind closed doors, leaving her to slip a note through the letterbox. With no other place to go, Carin continues her surveillance of the Salon, determined to crack the case, all while juggling her attendance at a crucial meeting at the Continental that night.
Arne eventually makes his way to the station to provide his statement on the assault. Carin doesn't get much of an opportunity to explain herself or clear the air with him, as the situation is abruptly cut short when Arne is summoned to meet with Oscar.
Back at the station, Oscar takes the lead in questioning Jack, who's starting to show signs of nervousness under the intense scrutiny. Just then, Svard makes an appearance, offering Jack a reassuring word that his release is imminent.
Oscar's steamy affair with Siv continues to simmer at his place after work hours. But alas, the bubble bursts when Siv swiftly discovers that Oscar is, in fact, a married man with children. As expected, it was all too perfect to be genuine!
Meanwhile, Carin dials the number for the Continental, securing her appointment at the Salon (which, unbeknownst to many, doubles as a front for an abortion clinic). Gradually, she begins to place her trust in Reimer after he shows her a modicum of care. She confides in him about her covert investigation and seeks his assistance. Johan Reimer, with a grave expression, advises Carin that her best course of action is to confide in Svard, spilling the beans on Jack, the club, and the entire investigation.
Sure, Carin will lose her job, but it will also shield the other girls from potential harm and even death.
In the midst of this turmoil, Ingrid finds herself whisked away to an underground club with Wallin. The room is packed with officers, and they are in the midst of torturing a communist dissident. Under immense peer pressure, Ingrid reluctantly joins in the gruesome act. However, the guilt gnaws at her, prompting her to seek counsel from her grandmother. Her grandma, wise and unyielding, urges Ingrid not to quit but to stand up for her beliefs.
The following morning, Carin attempts to speak with Svard, but her revelation is abruptly cut short by the news that Jack is being released. Left with no other choice, Carin decides to go it alone. That night, she makes her way to the Salon for her clandestine meeting, only to realize that the owner keeps a meticulous logbook of all visitors.
Seizing the opportunity, Carin slips away unnoticed as the nurse's attention is diverted, making a hasty exit with the logbook in hand. Upon scrutinizing the entries, she stumbles upon Monica's name and dials the contact number listed. To her utter shock, Svard answers the call.
