The prologue of Night Agent commences with a captivating scene: a woman and her innocent daughter boarding a crowded train. Amidst the bustle, a gentleman chivalrously offers them his seat. Standing up, his attention is drawn to a mysterious figure clad in a black jacket and hoodie, who carelessly abandons a bag. Curious, he approaches the bag and makes a shocking discovery - a bomb.

Without hesitation, he pulls the emergency door release, halting the train abruptly. Displaying his FBI badge, he commands the passengers to evacuate in an orderly fashion. Panic spreads as the news of the bomb spreads, yet most escape just in time before the explosive detonates.

As he receives medical attention, his eyes scan the chaotic crowd, spotting the culprit observing surreptitiously from afar. In a separate narrative, Rose, a young woman, stands poised with nervous excitement, preparing to deliver her maiden TED talk. She seems to be a trailblazer in the field of cybersecurity. Another woman approaches, presenting her with funding documents to sign. Both women share a jubilant moment, celebrating the fulfillment of a shared aspiration.

A year later, the narrative leaps forward. Here, we encounter Peter, an FBI agent, preparing for his shift at the White House. Upon arrival, he is summoned by his superior, Diana Farr. She is displeased with his response to an ambush interview conducted by Elliot Rome, who had accused him of being involved in a bombing incident a year prior. Farr admonishes him to avoid making any comments in future encounters with Rome. She reminds him of their agreement, emphasizing the importance of his role as a night agent as a stepping stone to better opportunities. Before departing for Maryland, she tasks him with organizing some files for her. He thanks her and exits.

On his way to his office, a windowless room adorned with only a phone and a table, Peter encounters Ben Almora, who mentions that the President is eager to play their regular pickup game. Ben hints that the President is inquisitive about Peter's decision to stay with the FBI instead of joining the Secret Service. Hawkins, another man, joins the conversation and inquiries about a crime report Peter was supposed to submit. Hawkins is displeased with Peter's excuse and underscores the report's sensitivity, warning him to choose his allegiances carefully. Peter retreats to his office and begins to work on some documents.

Meanwhile, Rose warmly welcomes her aunt Emma and uncle Henry. She reveals that she was dismissed from her job due to a data breach at her company, leaving her financially ruined. She expresses her intention to stay with them until she stabilizes her situation. Her aunt and uncle strive to comfort her, reassuring her that all will be well and offering their unconditional support.

Later that evening, Rose awakens to the muffled voices of her aunt and uncle downstairs. She eavesdrops on their conversation, catching snippets about warnings to Osprey, the burning of documents, and the nation's precarious state. Her aunt expresses concern about an engineer and some sensitive files, warning that no one in the White House can be trusted. Rose approaches them, and her aunt brandishes a gun, refusing to answer her niece's inquiries and warning of someone outside.

Her uncle hands her a slip of paper, urging her to dash down the road to the neighbor's abode and dial the number inscribed thereon. He insists she utter the words written on the paper, preceded by the code phrase "night action." He further commands her to convey their desperate need for assistance, and Rose rushes off in a state of panic. Tragically, her uncle and aunt are assaulted by two assailants and perish in their own home. As Rose flees, she happens to catch a glimpse of one of the attackers, who immediately pursues her relentlessly.

She reaches the neighbor's house, thankful to find it vacant. She forces her way in and dials the number on the paper. Peter, startled by the unexpected ring of the phone, initially assumes it's a misdial, especially when Rose fails to respond to his coded inquiries. However, Rose pleads frantically, revealing that her uncle and aunt are in peril and that a man is in pursuit. Peter immediately calls for assistance and dispatches a patrol to the residence. He also instructs Farr to be contacted immediately.

One of the killers trails Rose into the house, and Peter guides her into hiding. The man draws perilously close, but fortunately, the patrol officers arrive in the nick of time, saving Rose from harm. Sadly, the killer manages to flee through a window. Peter and Rose are greatly relieved, and Rose is placed under the watchful protection of the police.

Farr calls Peter, seeking an update. Peter informs her that Rose contacted him, revealing that two of their agents are in dire straits. Farr stresses that they cannot leave their crucial witness in the hands of local law enforcement, and Peter reveals that Hawkins is already on his way. Farr emphasizes the need for discretion, stating that she will take over Peter's responsibilities at the White House. Meanwhile, she orders Peter to retrieve Rose and ensure her safety. He is instructed not to ask Rose any questions or reveal any information until Barr and Hawkins conduct a debriefing in the morning. Additionally, he is forbidden from disclosing their location to anyone, even Farr.

Peter sets out to retrieve Rose and discovers that Hawkins has already broken the news of her aunt and uncle's demise. Hawkins is displeased with Farr's decision to send Peter, but he has no choice but to comply with the President's orders. Peter drives away with Rose, informing her that he works for the FBI and that they are headed to his apartment to gather some essential items. Rose begins to realize that her aunt and uncle deceived her, but Peter assures her that he is bound by orders not to reveal any details. He also confesses that he is unaware of the reasons behind the tragic fate of her family.

As they arrive at his abode, he promptly informs her of a debriefing scheduled for the impending dawn. He requests her phone and instructs her to gather a few garments from the adjacent room. He unlocks his safe, retrieving a gun, a disposable phone, and a travel bag. Additionally, he secures Rose's phone in the safe and activates a surveillance camera within his residence.

Rose discovers some clothes alongside a newspaper article detailing a disgraced FBI agent who perished in a car accident. Her suspicions towards Peter arise as he claims to work for the FBI yet possesses a White House pass. She expresses her desire to seek police assistance, but he warns her it's not safe, urging them to find a secluded hideout.

Outside, Peter is abruptly assaulted by two men who had been eavesdropping on Elliot's conversations. Believing he was involved in the Metro bombing and a traitor like his father, Peter manages to fight them off and confiscates their wallets, instructing them to wait for the police. He departs with Rose, contacting Farr and requesting agents to apprehend the assailants. Farr admonishes him to safeguard Rose.

Rose inquisitively queries Peter about the men's accusation of treason, and he assures her of his innocence, along with his father's. She reminisces about her aunt and wonders why Peter was the one to respond. He clarifies that it's his duty, and this was the first time a call for help had been made. Peter notices a vehicle trailing them, promptly instructing Rose to dial the topmost number on his phone and request assistance for the night.

Their pursuer opens fire, narrowly grazing Rose with a bullet. Leveraging his expertise, Peter manages to evade the tail and they retreat to an AirBnB booked under his friend's name. Rose curiously inquiries about the female attire in his house, and he reveals they belonged to his former fiancée, Zoe. Rose's fear escalates knowing someone is hunting her, but Peter remains vigilant, urging her to recount every detail she witnessed and heard during the debrief.

Peter sternly reminds her of his directives when she poses queries. She inquires about the nature of night action, and he explains it's a counterintelligence program for agents in distress. Rose realizes her aunt and uncle were spies, but Peter confesses his ignorance, admitting he operates at a lower level.

As Rose slumbered peacefully, Peter's phone buzzed with an alarming notification, indicating an unauthorized entry into his home. Hastily dialing Farr, she swiftly dispatched agents to his residence. However, upon their arrival, the two shadowy figures had already vanished, leaving Peter only with a screenshot capturing the intricate ring adorning one of their wrists.

The following dawn, Peter chauffeured Rose through the serene streets to the debriefing. Farr greeted them warmly, introducing herself to Rose with a smile. Rose insisted that Peter accompany her, and Farr acquiesced gracefully. As Rose excused herself to the restroom, Farr filled Peter in on the details of the break-in, revealing that the FBI's findings were scarce. Hawkins, however, deemed the matter beyond Peter's clearance and dismissed him from the briefing. As Peter exited, he stumbled upon Rose emerging from the restroom. He urged her to confide in Farr and Hawkins, but Rose shook her head, whispering that she couldn't trust anyone, having overheard her aunt mention the possibility of a betrayal within the White House.

Meanwhile, in a separate scenario, a woman was unexpectedly visited by a young couple cradling a baby. As she granted them entry, a sense of unease crept over her during their casual conversation. But it was too late; the couple struck without mercy, leaving the woman lifeless and snatching a bag before fleeing, abandoning the helpless baby. The man texted a mysterious figure, announcing his success, and received a command to return to D.C. and complete their sinister plan. Little did they know, their actions had led to the abduction of an innocent toddler.
