The Old Man – Season 2 Episode 1 1

Just as the tension mounts, the truck grinds to a halt, and the tranquility is shattered by the crackle of gunfire. Emerging from the vehicle, they're confronted with a grim scene—Amid, their driver, lies lifeless, and two assailants lay vanquished by Dan's swift hand. Their carefully crafted plan now in shambles, Dan commands Harold to contact their next ally, but Harold rebels, opting instead to use Amid's phone to navigate their way forward. Amid's absence leaves a gaping hole in their strategy, but Harold's determination fuels their onward march, praying for a swift and successful operation.

Fortunately, Dan's familiarity with the terrain guides them to their intended rendezvous. Expecting a friendly face, they encounter a dozen armed and agitated men, hostility simmering in the air. On the brink of disaster, as one man prepares to strike Harold down, a new player emerges—Omar, who intervenes, saving them both from imminent doom. Omar's surprise at their identity as agents tasked with Angela's rescue is palpable, and he voices his doubts about their chances without sufficient resources. Nevertheless, he offers a glimmer of hope, proposing to lead them to the resistance's commander.

Prior to this, Omar escorts them to a vantage point, revealing Faraz's mining empire in all its sinister grandeur. Over the years, Faraz's power has swollen, fueled by the discovery of the hidden mine. He's forged unlikely alliances with the local governor and even the Taliban, once his foes, now united in exploiting the mine for their own gains. Faraz's network of spies and soldiers stretches far and wide, positioning him as an indispensable mediator between the American government and the Taliban. A formidable foe indeed, yet Dan and Harold remain steadfast, their resolve unwavering as they press forward in their quest to save Angela.

As the trio pressed onward, their path ultimately converged on Faraz's domain. Harold's relentless need to relieve himself slowed their progress, while Dan's mind wandered, revisiting his solemn vow to Belour. He had pledged to shield Angela's true identity from Angela herself, to nurture her as his own and pave her way towards a brighter future in America. This was their arrangement, until Faraz's sinister abduction shattered their dreams.

As Harold attended to his necessity, Omar probed Dan, inquiring if he was the enigmatic figure rumored to have aided Faraz in his battles against the Russians. Dan categorically denied it, dismissing the tale as mere folklore. The men resumed their trek, only to stumble upon a grim reality at the camp's threshold—a scene of deathly silence, where every soul lay still.

Harold, disturbed, excused himself to contact Marianne, his lifeline. She requested time to establish a new channel, a request Harold reluctantly conceded to, his suspicions of Marianne simmering beneath the surface. To his shock, she revealed that Ali was the Commander's trusted confidant, leaving him to ponder: Who, then, was Omar?

Elsewhere, Dan's deductions led him to a chilling realization—Omar's identity was a facade. His undue curiosity about Angela's whereabouts ignited a fierce confrontation, Omar's demands echoing through the air: Why was she worth such sacrifice? What made Faraz risk everything for her?

In the heat of battle, Dan suffered a stab wound yet managed to mar Omar's visage before escaping with Harold onto a rooftop, where they sprinted towards freedom on horseback, leaving Omar's pursuers on dirt bikes far behind in a cloud of dust.

Dan guided them to a secluded cave, a hideout from his past where he had secreted provisions for just such contingencies. The two men huddled within its confines, the night's chill seeping in. Dan confessed his fear that Angela had fallen victim to Faraz's wrath, believing she reminded him of Belour or perhaps himself. He urged Harold to arrange their extraction, but Harold, unwavering in his faith, accused Dan of cowardice. He insisted Angela was capable of navigating Faraz's world, and refused to let despair consume them.

Harold reached out to his wife, whose voice quivered with concern for his safety in Afghanistan and the tumultuous state of their lives in America. She relayed Marianne's call, stirring fresh turmoil in their household. Harold's past warnings about Marianne's treachery echoed in her mind, leaving her perplexed by his decision to involve her.

Meanwhile, Dan emerged from a nightmare haunted by Faraz's image, only to find himself face to face with the very specter of his fears—Faraz, gun in hand, pulling the trigger in a flash of deadly intent.
