The scene shifts to Sarah's father, visiting Tinley Brit as a client. Drummond, in a hushed tone, discusses Sarah's progress at the law firm with her father. In private, Sarah attempts to vouch for Drummond's integrity in reference to a tissue committee document he's trying to conceal, though her words ring hollow.

Rudy and Deck find themselves at a supermarket, where Deck frets that Rudy might be developing feelings for Kelly. He wonders if Rudy is hiding her in his apartment, but Rudy assures him that Kelly is at a friend's place. However, Cliff follows Rudy and ends up at Mrs Black's house.

That night, Rudy hands Mrs Black the gun and asks her to use it in case of an emergency. As Cliff sneaks into the house and tries to attack Kelly, the tension is palpable.

Deck shows up at Bruiser's place in the middle of the night with news of Rudy's arrest for Cliff's murder. At the sheriff's office, Bruiser interrogates Rudy about the incident, who reveals that he shot Cliff in self-defense when the cop tried to attack Kelly. Bruiser is fuming that Rudy took Kelly to Mrs Black's place.

Meanwhile, Kelly is taken to her house after Cliff's murder. The next morning, Sarah asks Brad for access to the tissue committee documents, eager to be prepared for the case. Brad informs her of Rudy's arrest for murder.

In the courtroom, Bruiser engages in a fiery debate with Robert Quinn, the man who had Rudy's father imprisoned for the alleged murder of Rosalie Sutton. With her fierce advocacy, Bruiser manages to sway the judge's decision, granting bail to Rudy. As the hearing ends, Rudy meets Sarah, who seems distressed about his situation. Rudy implores her to trust him as he vows to emerge from this predicament unscathed.

At the office, Deck, Bruiser, and Rudy delve into the case, attempting to uncover a motive that Quinn could use against Rudy. They dissect the evidence, suggesting that Rudy may have planned the murder by using an unregistered gun. Later that day, Bruiser and Deck pay a visit to Mrs. Black's home to re-examine the crime scene.

Bruiser notices that there were three gunshots fired on the night of Cliff's murder, contradicting Rudy's statement of two shots. They conclude that Rudy couldn't have fired the shot and was instead protecting someone else.

Meanwhile, Brad fires Jane Allen on behalf of Tinley Brit. She reveals that Jackie had stolen a confidential file from the hospital computer, something Melvin desperately wanted and was holding Jackie hostage for. Jane insists on staying on the case, but Brad explains the law firm's decision, irritating her.

That same day, Sarah and Brad discuss the confidential file Melvin is after. Brad asks Sarah to retrieve it from Charlie, the man Jackie is having an affair with. Sarah meets Charlie and tries to understand what Melvin is looking for. Charlie reveals that he helped Jackie hide in his shed for a few days. Sarah inquires about a flash drive Jackie might have been hiding, but Charlie reveals he has no knowledge of it.

That night, after being released from prison, Rudy heads to Kelly's apartment where they cuddle and sleep when Bruiser arrives unexpectedly. Bruiser asks Rudy to reveal what truly happened on the night of Cliff's murder, and Kelly confesses that she was the one who shot her abusive husband to death.

The following day, Bruiser and Quinn met outside the court's jurisdiction, sealing the case with Kelly's poignant testimony. Amidst Cliff's previous allegations of abuse and Kelly's recent hospital stay, Quinn agreed to let Rudy and Kelly go without so much as a charge. Rudy expressed his gratitude to Bruiser, while that same night, Bruiser met with Quinn and thanked him for keeping their personal matters at bay, respecting the boundaries of their interactions.

The next day, Kelly shared with Rudy her decision to leave and start anew. She thanked him for all his support and expressed her gratitude towards Mrs. Black, who served as a maternal figure to her, reminding her of Donny. Rudy provided comfort to Mrs. Black. Later that evening, Drummond encountered Prince and hired him to locate the USB drive that Jackie had hidden.
