Episode 1 of *The Resurrected* opens with a young shaman goddess performing a resurrection ritual on a small monkey. According to the ritual's tenets, any being brought back to life is granted seven additional days of existence. Two women, Chao Ching and Wang Hui-chun, watch intently as the shaman carries out the ceremony, then approach her with a desperate plea to resurrect their respective daughters.
The shaman, however, finds herself powerless to revive Hui-chun's daughter, who, though technically alive, has languished in a coma for the past three years. Meanwhile, Ching's daughter, cremated three years prior, lacks a physical form for the shaman to work with. The women depart, their hopes dashed and hearts heavy with disappointment.
The narrative then shifts to the day of Chang Shih-kai's execution. Convicted of orchestrating a phone scam operation, Shih-kai stands guilty of a litany of heinous crimes: abducting, torturing, raping, and murdering numerous women across Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, and Macau. He is the very man responsible for the demise of Hui-chun's daughter and the catastrophic state in which Ching's daughter now exists.
Lawyer Huang I-chen, alongside Hui-chun and Ching, spearheads the legal battle against Shih-kai, seeking justice for the deaths and assaults of their daughters. News reporters dissect Shih-kai's atrocities as Hui-chun tends to her daughter, Jin Jin, who lies in a vegetative state in the hospital.
At the airport, Shih-kai's mother drops to her knees, pleading for forgiveness from Ching amidst a throng of reporters. Yet, aboard the flight, Shih-kai's mother and sister luxuriate in business class while Ching is relegated to economy. Undeterred, Ching trails Shih-kai's car, her eyes widening at the opulent mansion that houses his family.
Meanwhile, Hui-chun connects with her YouTube subscribers through a livestream, appealing for donations to facilitate Jin Jin's return home to Taipei. A young boy named Eason arrives to visit his grandmother, who, like Jin Jin, is in a coma. Hui-chun's husband broaches the unthinkable: suggesting euthanasia for Jin Jin.
He suggests leveraging the online-generated funds to purchase a property that could secure their future. Ching arrives on the scene and urges the man to step aside. Subsequently, Ching and Hui-chun tail Shih-kai’s mother and sister as they indulge in a shopping spree at upscale malls, just a day prior to his execution. Ching forwards the photographs to I-chen, imploring her to pressure Shih-kai’s family into paying civil damages. I-chen, however, contends that Shih-kai possesses no enforceable assets, rendering him ineligible to offer any compensation. Ching feels let down by I-chen, who appears indifferent to their plight.
The following day, Ching, Hui-chun, and other parents of victims congregate to witness Shih-kai’s execution. His mother and sister are also present, all observing as Shih-kai meets his fate through electrocution.
The narrative then rewinds to 2019, when Shih-kai is apprehended and his victims are freed. I-chen encounters Ching, who has just learned of her daughter’s harrowing ordeal of brutal murder, torture, and rape. Detective Li, assigned to the case, requests Ching to view the video of her daughter’s torture for victim identification. Hui-chun volunteers to watch the video instead and confirms the victim as Ching’s daughter.
In the present, reporters inquire of Ching whether she feels relieved to see Shih-kai receive his just punishment. Ching is taken aback by the question and lashes out at the reporters. That evening, Ching and Hui-chun retreat to a local Chinese bar to unwind and distract themselves from the turmoil in their lives.
Ching confides in Hui-chun, suggesting that Shih-kai’s family might have been complicit in his crimes. She expresses that Shih-kai’s execution brings her no sense of liberation, given the torture and violation their daughters endured at his hands.
Another flashback reveals Hui-chun and Ching confronting Shih-kai on the eve of his execution, demanding answers regarding their daughters’ deaths. Shih-kai remains unrepentant about his actions.
In the present, Ching draws a parallel between her daughter’s death and the state Jin Jin is left in. Hui-chun concurs with Ching, who asserts that Shih-kai has evaded full accountability for his crimes.
With a malevolent gleam in their eyes, the two women make a chilling decision. They enlist the aid of a sinister shaman to bring about a grotesque resurrection, their sole purpose being to unleash a torrent of torment upon him. Over the span of seven harrowing days, they revel in the sadistic act of torturing Shih-kai, their malevolent laughter echoing through the air as the episode draws to a grim and haunting close.
