Predictably, Danny responds with a curt "get fucked," followed by a scathing critique that tears the band apart.

The Runarounds – Season 1 Episode 5 1

Elsewhere, Wyatt receives the shocking news of his mother, Wendy's, dismissal from her job. Grappling with financial woes, she labels Wyatt as selfish for his departure, escalating into a heated argument that culminates in her hurling insults and kicking him out of the house. However, Wendy's predicaments deepen as Spider, a ruthless debt collector, arrives demanding payment. This places Wyatt in a quandary, incessantly bombarded by his mother's messages pleading for financial assistance.

Meanwhile, the band's fortunes take a turn when Catesby presents them with a novel opportunity: to attend a performance by Dex Romweber, a seasoned veteran who could serve as both an inspiration and a glimpse into the realm of stardom. Sophia recognizes the name, revealing that Dex's band was once her mother's favorite. Spurred by this revelation, Charlie visits Sophia, urging her and their female bandmates (Bender and Amanda) to accompany him.

Well, it's finally time for an epic road trip to visit Dex, yet amidst this adventure, Charlie finds himself neglecting his little sister, who desperately needs a lift to her gymnastics practice. She's already missed three sessions due to her brother's lateness or absence, and even she has come to the realization that Charlie is somewhat narcissistic. Meanwhile, Finn has pressing matters to attend to when Leslie from Merchant Bank calls with alarming news: they're 90 days overdue on their payments and on the brink of losing their home. Hannah remains oblivious to this dire situation as well.

The road trip commences, and after charming the high school coach into lending them the bus, the group sets off with excitement. They bond, sharing wild fantasies and counting hypothetical casualties, even indulging in Delta-8 THC pills along the way.

Arriving at Dex's place stoned, the group watches his performance with bated breath. After the show, Dex imparts some musical wisdom, urging them to abandon the rock and roll lifestyle for a more stable path. He warns them of the perils of living fast and hard, recounting how his own band crumbled under the pressure.

Dex stresses the importance of honesty and trust among them, warning that any hint of distrust or deceit would spell the end of their friendship. Bez, who has secrets of his own, is particularly struck by this advice.

As Dex exits the bus, disaster strikes. The bus careens off the edge of a hillside, rolling multiple times before coming to a rest. Miraculously, everyone emerges unscathed, barely a scratch to show for it. With the bus totaled, they trek through the woods together, only to be overtaken by the powerful effects of the drugs.

Amidst this surreal experience, Bender and Amanda share a passionate kiss, while Wyatt opens up to Sophia about his struggles with his mother. Their heartfelt conversation culminates in a tender hug, though it feels somewhat abrupt.

Elsewhere, Hannah finds herself at Catesby's with Finn, who learns about the road trip to Dex's. Fuming with anger, Finn denounces Catesby's parenting skills (unaware that Charlie is his son) before storming out in a rage.

Back with the group, Bez finally confesses his secret involving Danny Mace. Charlie, initially furious, eventually comes around. The others accept Bez's confession, but Wyatt is more upset by the betrayal of trust.

The group eventually makes their way back home aboard their weary, battle-scarred bus, only to be met with the devastating news that Dex had passed away that very night. Upon their return to town, Topher faces a stern rebuke from his parents, yet he stands his ground, resolutely refusing to abandon the band.
