Jared desperately tries to convince his mother and grandmother of Thimbletack's existence, recounting the creature's rampage through the house, but his efforts are dismissed as fanciful tales.

Simon, however, now believes in the existence of magical beings after encountering a fairy. Meanwhile, Mallory is intrigued to spot the mysterious maestro Valentina briefly attending Lucinda's funeral, adding to the air of intrigue surrounding the event.

Helen's mother reveals that she had a difficult childhood, with her sister and father constantly emphasizing the existence of magical creatures. She advises Helen to be strict and cautious, but Helen longs to be more open and adventurous than her mother.

Days after the funeral, a shocking revelation comes to light: it was Calliope, disguised as Lucinda, who was laid to rest in the grave. The whereabouts of the real Lucinda remain a mystery, and Dr. Brauer's motives become increasingly suspicious. He seems eager to gain the trust of the Graces, hinting at a sinister plan in the making.

Elsewhere, Jared finds himself in a hospital group therapy session, apologizing for his pranks and offering baked biscuits as a peace offering. Unbeknownst to him, the biscuits are filled with iron, a trap designed to reveal any fairies lurking in the room. But before Dr. Brauer has a chance to take a bite, the truth emerges, leaving everyone stunned and realizing that the world of magic is closer than they ever imagined.

As a consequence, Dr. Brauer summoned Jared, urging him to engage in a thrilling hunt for the elusive Field Guide pages scattered across the town. His ulterior motive was to seize them later, as he was unable to secure them personally due to their secure placement behind iron doors and enchanted glamours.

Meanwhile, Jared and Simon hatched a plan to unlock the mysterious fairy door they had stumbled upon in the town. However, while Jared was away, Simon unexpectedly encountered Calliope, who invited him for a stroll. During their leisurely walk, a profound friendship began to bloom between them.

Elsewhere, Mallory crossed paths with Bree, another fencing protégé of Valentina's. Intrigued, Bree challenged her to a sparring match. Parallel to these events, Dr. Brauer delivered Lucinda's belongings to Helen, hoping that as she rummaged through them, he might glean valuable clues about the Field Guide. Additionally, he aimed to foster a deeper bond with Helen through this gesture.

Unexpectedly, Jared found himself accompanied by Hatcher and Emiko instead of Simon. Together, they racked their brains trying to decipher the mysterious letters etched on the door. Suddenly, Calliope and Simon arrived on the scene, and Calliope's keen observation revealed that the letters were actually musical chords. Jared noticed a hint of uneasiness in Calliope's demeanor as she gazed at the iron door, and she soon excused herself, citing Jared's hostility towards her due to his suspicions.

Undeterred, the foursome decided to sing Lucinda's favorite song, which turned out to be the elusive password. As the melody echoed, the door magically swung open, revealing a page from the Field Guide. Jared retrieved it, leading them to an entirely new and exciting location.

Mallory's defeat by Bree stung, and as Bree engaged in conversation with her boyfriend, Mallory's gaze fell upon a photograph of Valentina and Lucinda from 1979. It was startling - Valentina looked identical to her present-day self, unchanged by the passing of time. She ducked out of sight as Valentina and Bree arrived, eavesdropping on their conversation. It became clear to Mallory that they were plotting against her, intent on ensuring she lost the upcoming championship.

Elsewhere, Jared's crew arrived at their destination - a massive rock with a perfectly circular hole at its center. Peering through, they beheld a magical sight - unicorns grazing peacefully, much like the miniature replica Lucinda had bestowed upon Jared. Jared confided in Hatcher and Emiko about the perilous situation involving Mulgarath, imploring them to keep it a secret, as knowledge of it posed a significant danger to them.

Meanwhile, back at Dr. Brauer's, the atmosphere was tense as Mulgarath threatened Calliope with dire consequences.

At the Spiderwick house, Helen found herself embroiled in a heated argument with her mother. Simon and Jared intervened, attempting to show them the revealing page from the Field Guide. But their grandmother, unswayed, ripped it to shreds and stormed out, unable to persuade Helen to stay.

Jared's adventure took a painful turn when he accidentally broke his arm under mysterious circumstances involving Thimbletack. The family's hasty trip to the hospital was fraught with anxiety. Helen summoned Dr. Brauer and Calliope to their aid. Simon, noticing Calliope's odd behavior at the hospital entrance, confided in her that he was aware of her true nature as a creature. He assured her that her secret was safe with him. After he left, Calliope transformed into an injured woman sitting across from her, and the woman passed away mere seconds later.

As Jared lay recuperating in his hospital bed, Dr. Brauer made a surprise visit. Before Jared could warn him about the presence of iron, the doctor took a bite from a biscuit placed beside the bed. Instantly, Mulgarath's shapeshifter, sensitive to the iron, began to writhe in agony as the metal burned her from within. Jared's eyes widened in realization - he had finally identified their true enemy.
